Re: The Book of Pluto (Initial Playtest Phase)

EXTREMELY late on this - man, I am way behind on playtesting! - but finally knocking this guy's initial out.

C3G INITIAL PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM

NAME OF THE TEST UNIT Pluto

- THEME TEST/ Check to see if there are any powers or stats on the test unit card that does not accurately reflect the theme or likeness of what the character would and could do. Also consider destructible objects, and whether or not this characters powers should affect them.
PASS (Planting him on a hill with swarms of mooks to protect him looks and feels awesome.)

- MIRROR TEST/ Check to see if the unit were played against itself, if there would be any loops that would upset the balance of the Game.
PASS

- BONDING TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing Bonding abilities to make sure there are no continual Bonding possibilities that do not stop appropriately or do not stop at all. This is to prevent loops in Bonding.
PASS

- SYNERGIES TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing synergies to make sure there are no factors that could break the game by making any unit too powerful or too weak.
PASS (The Moloids are something to keep an eye on, but I don't think it's game-breaking.)

- POWER CHECK/ Consider the test unit and all existing units and all glyphs to compare to and check for any powers that could be over amplified and break the game. Each power must define when it takes place, who or what it affects, and What are the stipulations on the power if there are any.
PASS

- FUN TEST/ Consider whether or not the design was fun to play.
PASS

- FUN COMPETITIVE TEST/ Consider whether or not the design was fun to play against.
PASS

- DRAFTING TEST/ Consider whether or not this design is worth drafting.
PASS (Very army-dependent. We might want to price him a bit cheaply just to make sure he's a good choice.)

- USAGE TEST/ Consider whether or not all of the powers on this card were used or at least usable.
PASS (Lord of Hades is pretty situational, unfortunately; it's a minor boost in some games but HUGE against squad-heavy stuff.)

- STRATEGY TEST/ Consider whether or not the design offers any real strategy or interesting tactics to the overall game.
PASS

Heavy Hitter or Mid-Level Hero Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? YES!
- What should be the unit's point value? 400-420 POINTS
- Give a brief overview. Pretty much right in the middle here, which is good - however, that's without Lord of Hades ever coming into play, so I suspect he's a bit undercosted at 400. We'll see how I feel after the Squad tests...
Spoiler Alert!

Squad Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? YES!
- What should be the unit's point value? 410 POINTS
- Give a brief overview. A great match! Very even! I'll give him a minor boost to 410 just in case and move on to Army Tests.
Map: Sacred Shrine
Units: Pluto (400 Points) vs. Amazon Warriors x4 (400 Points)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? YES!
- What should be the unit's point value? 400+ POINTS
- Give a brief overview. This was a rough matchup for the X-Men, and in general I find that Pluto is a BEAST with Moloids. He has a semi-permanent screen to keep enemies from getting adjacent every turn he takes, and without range it's tough to keep them at bay. Might need a point bump (or lose the Moloids synergy?).
Map: Sacred Shrine
Units: Pluto, Moloid x19 (600 Points) vs. Wolverine, Colossus, Jubilee (600 Points)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? YES!
- What should be the unit's point value? 380-400 POINTS
- Give a brief overview. Pluto easily blew away Grodd and dealt some damage to some Gorillas; overall he underperformed, but a big part of that was a misplay where he was vulnerable to the Gorilla City Warriors (who quickly took advantage of the vulnerability). He definitely could have done some damage given time. Enough to have turned the tide? Maybe.
Map: Sacred Shrine
Units: Pluto, Captain America: Steve Rogers, Bane, Venom (990 Points) vs. Gorilla Grodd, Gorilla City Warriors x6, Skrull Infiltrator x2 (995 Points)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? NO!
- What should be the unit's point value? >400 POINTS
- Give a brief overview. Here he was nigh-useless. His attack wasn't enough to even harm the Asgardians, and without any squad units he wasn't able to earn Hades points. In general, he needs a screen to function well, which is appropriate, and this army just couldn't provide that.
Map: Sacred Shrine
Units: Pluto, Star-Lord, Drax, Red Skull, Punisher, Iron Man (1620 Points) vs. Odin, Thor, Asgardian Warrior x3 (1620 Points)
Spoiler Alert!

FINAL THOUGHTS: With the Moloids, he was GREAT. Absolutely steamrolled the competition. Against squad-heavy armies I figure he'll be pretty good, but to be fair the Gorilla City Warriors weren't a great rival for him. And in a hero-centric army he's no good at all; he needs a screen to function.

Overall I think ~400 is right. I'm a bit concerned about the Moloids... but it's a really fun army and in general giving him bonding makes him fun. Maybe we can get a skeleton army to protect him at one point? Regardless, I'd like to send him out at 410 with recommendation to push the Moloid synergy as much as possible. Possibly drop depending on how good that combination is.
