Heavy Hitter or Mid-Level Hero Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 700-750.
- Give a brief overview. Brainiac 13 is clearly inferior to his predecessor one-on-one. In Heavy Hitters, Artificial Intelligence 13 didn’t come into play at all, but the map did favor Brainaic 13 in many of these matches, to the point where I’ll probably go 700 into the next tests.
Spoiler Alert!
TEST 1
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. ULTRON (680)
Brainiac 13 had an advantage here since Program Transmission would just have an effect of putting 4 wounds on each Event Hero (since ULTRON couldn’t be placed with the power, he couldn’t heal). By the time ULTRON would have been able to use it, he had enough wounds already that a successful roll would have killed him outright. So, rather than committing suicide, ULTRON didn’t use the power.
Both Event Heroes felt pretty evenly matched otherwise, but 12th Level Intellect was a big advantage. ULTRON tried very hard to get his special attack to wound Brainiac 13 at the start of rounds in order to remove Order Markers, but extra shields from 12th Level Intellect helped Brainiac avoid this all but once (he lost an OM3). Brainiac never got close enough to destruction to use Contingency Program 13.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Brainiac 13 with 11 Wounds wins Turn 4, Round 6.
TEST 2
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. ULTRON (680)
After his special attack was so stymied last time, ULTRON went all out with his normal attack here, hoping Adamantium Tough would provide the difference in two otherwise fairly evenly matched Event Heroes. It did the trick (with the help of a reversal in dice fortunes) and ULTRON pounded Brainiac 13 into dust. Brainiac 13’s only attempt at Contingency Program 13 fell short (he only hit a 5, so even 12th Level Intellect wouldn’t have helped).
Who won and how many wounds did they have? ULTRON with 7 Wounds wins Turn 1, Round 6.
TEST 3
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. Brainiac (800)
Brainiac the original gets the decided advantage here. On paper they’re very close other than Brainiac 13 having the extra life, but Brainiac was able to lower 13’s attack to 4 every single round thanks to going 7 for 7 on Shrinking Ray rolls (not too hard to do since you only need 4+). 12th Level Intellect and their normal stats otherwise mostly offset. Getting put down to 4 attack each round really made it tough for Brainiac 13 to wound Brainiac as quickly as vice versa.
In the ugliest part of the match (the ending), Brainiac 13 hit his only roll for Contingency Program 13, rolling exactly 13, which would have spared him the last 3 wounds, but Brainiac still had his X-Marker left and Brainiac 13 didn’t, so the roll got lowered by 1 and Brainiac 13 bit it.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Brainiac with 9 Wounds wins Turn 3, Round 7.
TEST 4
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. Brainiac (800)
Brainiac was helped immensely by winning initiative in Rounds 2 through 5. He also hit 4 of 4 on his Shrinking Ray to keep Brainiac 13 rolling 4 attack dice most of the match. This time around Brainiac 13 was able to buy himself an extra turn or two by hitting another 13 for Contingency Program 13, but after both Brainiacs had burnt their X-Markers this time. This one felt close, but Brainiac 13 was also powered by a few very solid attack rolls down the stretch. It still wasn’t enough, though. Brainiac’s special powers are superior, at least in a one-on-one situation.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Brainiac with 11 Wounds wins Turn 1, Round 5.
TEST 5
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. Surtur (900)
Surtur failed his only Intense Heat roll, but did hit all three Twilight Sword rolls (and used all to put wounds on Brainiac). Fearing getting his powers negated, Brainiac 13 usually burned his X-Marker right away to add to his attack rolls. Between that and having height the entire match due to the map favoring fliers, Brainiac had a solid offense here. He also went 1 of 2 on Contingency Program rolls, but it wasn’t quite enough to stand up to Surtur’s might. On a different map, Surtur might have dominated this match.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Surther with 14 Wounds wins Turn 2, Round 3.
TEST 6
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. Surtur (900)
Surtur went a miserable one of eight on Twilight Sword, only two of three on Intense Heat, Brainiac 13 went one of two on Contingency Program rolls and had height the whole match, and Surtur still tore Brainiac 13 a new one here.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Surtur with 7 Wounds wins Turn 4, Round 3.
TEST 7
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. Thanos (500) and Kryptonian Soldier x1 (200) (700)
As if seething from recent defeats, Brainiac 13 ran rough shod over this one, putting a quick wound on the Kryptonian Solider, getting engaged by Thanos who hit him for one, putting 4 quick wounds on Thanos, leaving engagement (a whiff on the swipe), then rolling 4 skulls + adding one with 12th Level Intellect and finishing off the poor Kryptonian Solider, then wrestling with Thanos for the rest of the round (taking several more wounds) before winning initiative in Round 3 and blasting Thanos for the last three wounds. Contingency Program 13 never came into play.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Brainiac 13 with 9 Wounds wins Turn 1, Round 3.
TEST 8
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. Thanos (500) and Kryptonian Soldier x1 (200) (700)
Total cake walk for Brainiac 13. Even with Thanos landing his swipe this time and even with Thanos winning initiative in the final round, Brainiac 13 won with ease. He again took the Kryptonian Soldier apart in 2 attacks (both enhanced by 12th Level Intellect) and dominated Thanos one-on-one, thanks to making Spurned By Death irrelevant.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Brainiac 13 with 7 Wounds wins Turn 2, Round 7.
TEST 9
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. Destroyer (460) and Superboy (240) (800)
More domination. Brainiac 13 stuck Destroyer at a spot where his normal attack couldn’t reach (he couldn’t climb a ladder thanks to his size), and Destroyer only rolled 2 of 11 for Disintegration Ray. Superboy snuck in a couple of wounds before falling in Round 2. Contingency Program 13 didn’t come into play here.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Brainiac 13 with 6 Wounds wins Turn 5, Round 5.
TEST 10
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 vs. Destroyer (460) and Superboy (240) (800)
This may have been the closest match yet, with Brainiac 13 hitting 2 of 3 Contingency Program rolls (starting in Round 3) to hold death at bay, finish off Destroyer, and put Superboy on the ropes. Destroyer hit his first two Disintegration Ray rolls to put an early 4 wounds on Brainiac 13 and lure him from height with superior range. On even fighting ground, Brainiac 13 eventually whittled away at Destroyer, one wound at a time, using 12th Level Intellect and then Contingency Program 13 to stick around.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Superboy with 2 Wounds wins Turn 4, Round 5.

Squad Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 660-700?
- Give a brief overview. Brainiac did better than it looked like here, but also had a map advantage. Still, he only went up against 640 points and did not completely dominate.

Squad Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 750-800
- Give a brief overview. The map was a definite advantage here, but Brainiac owned the superior numbers all the same.

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 750 feels perfect.
- Give a brief overview. This was an epic battle! The Cyborg team was definitely built for taking down Kryptonians, but Zod and Non helped keep things close with big attacks down the stretch. Better rolls for auto wounds for the Infiltrators and this could have gone the other way.
Map: Custom
Units: Brainiac 13 (750), Lady Deathstrike (240), Metallo (290), Cyborg (200), Doombot (95) (1575) vs. General Zod (380), Non (330), Ursa (230), Kryptonian Infiltrator x4 (640) (1580)
Spoiler Alert!
Two Infiltrators managed to go into Brainiac 13’s Start Zone on the first try, but the next 6 Infiltration attempts were failures. The auto-wound attempts for the Infiltrators were also terrible, despite lots of early tries. They went only two of twelve. Getting average rolls would have scored four additional wounds and could have won the game for them. Such is Lady Luck.
Lady Deathstrike, meanwhile, hit both rolls for Vengeful Strike.
The Infiltrators managed to take down Cyborg, but Lady Deathstrike and Metallo took down all the Infiltrators and Ursa (Brainiac 13 put one wound on an Infiltrator from height). Non and Zod came in end game, and Zod managed to take out Metallo (despite the deadly Green K), and the Doombot, and Zod took out Lady Deathstrike. Brainiac put the last 4 wounds on Non and the last 5 wounds on Zod.
12th Level Intellect also aided Brainiac’s teammates in inflicting two wounds, and saved the from damage numerous times.
Occasionally the X-Marker went for Cybernetic Repair X instead, though, and Lady Deathstrike and Metallo both healed two wounds this way (Cyborg was taken down all in one round and never benefitted).
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Brainiac 13 with 12 Wounds wins Turn 6, Round 11.
