Heavy Hitter or Mid-Level Hero Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? 360
- Give a brief overview. He’ll still struggle against the elite heavy hitters one-on-one, but he should be a nice piece of a Frost Giant army and raising his attack to 7 gives him a puncher’s chance one-on-one.
Spoiler Alert!
TEST 1
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Superman (400)
It took a while for Superman to kill Laufey, but Laufey was toothless against Superman with a normal attack of six and no special attack or other wounding power.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Superman wins with 2 wounds, Turn 1 of Round 4.
TEST 2
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Superman (400)
Different game, same story. In every heavy hitter match, Laufey rolled for the Winters glyph and stood on it to up his defense to 8. It wasn’t enough to keep him around here against Superman’s attack.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Superman wins with 1 wound, Turn 2 of Round 3.
TEST 3
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Loki (420)
Loki couldn’t hit a single God of Evil roll and his stats were low enough for Laufey to deal with.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Laufey wins with 4 wounds on Turn 3 of Round 2.
TEST 4
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Loki (420)
Loki used his Deceptive Teleportation to force Laufey to move off the glyph and lose his defensive bonus (Laufey will be better with minions!). Loki still didn’t hit any God of Evil rolls and this one ended up really close.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Loki wins with 6 wounds on Turn 2 of Round 3.
TEST 5
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Thor (430)
Thor owns this match up one-on-one.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Thor wins with 1 wound on Turn 3 of Round 2.
TEST 6
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Thor (430)
Better range and mobility from Thor forced Laufey away from his glyph and then Thor beat him to a pulp in melee. A few extra lives did nothing to make up for inferior stats.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Thor wins with Full Life on Turn 2 of Round 2.
TEST 7
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) (350)
Green Lantern hit his first three Fearless Charge rolls and it was all downhill from there.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Green Lantern wins 2 wounds and 2 battery markers on Turn 1 of Round 3.
TEST 8
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) (350)
Green Lantern had all four batteries left when he lost, but he gambled on rolling defense one too many times in hopes of finishing Laufey with his attack.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Laufey wins with 8 wounds on Turn 2 of Round 2.
_____________________________________________________________
His attack was upped to 7 and the tests continue!
TEST 9
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) (350)
The attack boost proved to be a huge difference when it came to forcing Hal to burn battery markers. Hal burned through all four by the time this was finished. A few poor attack rolls early doomed Hal in the long run here, but some good Fearless Charge rolls helped him at least put a few wounds on Laufey before going out.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Laufey wins on Turn 1 of Round 4 with 5 wounds.
TEST 10
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) (350)
All the rolls went the other way this time until Laufey got some timely shields to extend his life and snuck in two wounds on Green Lantern before falling. This one wasn’t as close as it looked. Looking at the past two matches, though, 350 feels good.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Green Lantern wins Turn 3 of Round 3 with 3 wounds and full batteries.
TEST 9
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Annihilus (360)
Annihilus lost the Cosmic Control Rod early and it cost him dearly. He finally reclaimed it at the end of Round 2, but then lost initiative, allowing Laufey to pound him from height and finish the deal. Had initiative gone the other way, Annihilus had a real chance to put Laufey away instead. Laufey failed to hit his roll for placing the glyph the entire game here.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Laufey wins with 6 wounds on Turn 1 of Round 3.
TEST 10
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey vs. Annihils (360)
Annihilus had timely shields here to keep hold of his Cosmic Control Rod and the extra wounds it generated were very helpful. He lost it for the first time in Round 3 (using it to heal two wounds previously) and then used the attack bonus to finish Laufey off. 360 is feeling good so far!
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Annihilus wins with 5 wounds on Turn 2 of Round 3.

Squad Test

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? 360
- Give a brief overview. This is probably Laufey’s best possible army, so a win with 3 lives on Loki works for me.
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey (360), Frost Giant x4 (880), Loki (420) (1660) vs. Thor (430), Captain America (240), Scarlet Witch (285), Vision (285), Iron Fist (260), Hawkeye (160) (1660)
Spoiler Alert!
Loki used his X to help Laufey place the Winter glyph on Turn 1 of Round 1, and it was very helpful. This meant I didn’t get a chance to move any Frost Giants in Round 1, though, due to Order Marker placement. It paid off in the long run, though, as the heavy snow slowed down the Avengers, and the extra defense die was huge for the Frost Giants. They froze Thor (a couple of times), Cap (a couple of times) and Scarlet Witch, doing 2 wounds on Scarlet Witch from freezing, 2 on Cap, and 3 on Thor. The Frost Giants also managed to take out Iron Fist (who healed himself twice and Cap once) and put 3 wounds on Hawkeye with their normal attacks. Laufey, already in the thick of things due to the 8 space restriction, managed to put the last two wounds on Cap, the last two on Scarlet Witch, and the last 5 on Thor (who was part of putting 9 wounds on Laufey in return). Vision used his Physical Disruption to put the last wound on Laufey, setting up a full life Loki versus full life Vision and one life Hawkeye end game. Loki had the better end of the dice, though, and put Vision down after only taking 4 wounds. Then he won initiative for Round 14 and tossed Hawkeye aside like a rag doll.
Great match! I love Laufey at 360. Freezing Touch isn’t all that reliable, but it’s fun, and it can be competitive if you hit your rolls even semi-regularly.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Loki wins an epic one with 3 lives on Turn 1 of Round 14.

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? 360
- Give a brief overview. Laufey still struggles against Thor, but with some better D20 rolls, I think this would have been close.
Map: Custom
Units: Laufey (360), Frost Giant x2 (440) (800) vs. Thor (430), Hulk (370) (800)
Spoiler Alert!
Laufey could not, for the life of him, hit his D20 roll to place the Winters Glyph. As a result, he overextended himself a bit, which had positive and negative results. The positive result was that he got into the action and managed to put 5 wounds on Hulk early. The negative result was that this enraged Hulk and Hulk gave Laufey a dirt nap in Round 2. Before that Laufey had a few chances to either put two attacks of 5 on Hulk with the Frost Giants or roll for their Freezing Touch. I chose to roll for their Freezing Touch, given that it was near the end of Round 1, but I failed both rolls and Hulk proceeded to finish off Laufey in Round 2. This cost some Order Markers, but the one Frost Giant who remained after Round 2 managed to hit Hulk for the remaining wounds in Round 3, then put 2 wounds on Thor with his normal attack, sustaining 4 wounds in return, before freezing Thor twice in a row and putting 2 end of the round wounds on Thor this way. Thor broke out for the second time, though, and won initiative for Round 7, then put the final wound on the Frost Giant. With some slightly better D20 rolls, this easily could have gone the other way. Laufey didn’t feel undercosted at all here, though.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Thor with 4 life wins on Turn 1 of Round 7.
