Re: The Book of Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) - Playtesting Phas
C3G STANDARD PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM
NAME OF THE TEST UNIT Captain Mar-vell (Round 2)
_____________________________________________________________
Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? . Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? Felt more like 360-80 here, but I find he does against heavy hitters.
- Give a brief overview. I maintain that Mar-vell is weak against heavy hitters, which I personally don't have a problem with, but just a heads up in case anyone's thematically against it. So in this test, he feels about 20-50 points off. However, it should be noted that Super Skrull is a good counterdraft to him (can't be targeted at range, has a wounding defensive power of his own, has high enough attack that he can break Mar-vell's defense), and his attack dice were way off in this game. Also, while he was not untouchable, he did do enough damage that Wolverine was able to successfully clean up, so it seemed like his points held okay.
Map: X Marks the Spot
Units: Mar-vell, Wolverine (680) vs. Super Skrull, Skrull Warriors x3 (670)
Spoiler Alert!
Round 1: Initiative Skrulls.
Skrull Warriors slink out. Mar-vell races out and takes a shot at a Skrull, but can't break his inspired defense. 2 Skrulls fire on Mar-vell; one gets fried by Cosmic Awareness, the 2nd gets blocked by it. Mar-vell takes height and fires at a Skrull, but rolls only 1 skull that is easily blocked. 2 more skrulls fire; one gets Cosmic Fried, the other sneaks a wound in (3 skulls vs 1 shield). Mar-vell fries a Skrull.
Round 2: Initiative Skrulls.
Super Skrull moves out and reaches over the building top to swat at Mar-vell, but receives a wound for his trouble. Mar-vell flies to a building high point (expecting SupaSkrull to inevitably catch up), and fires at a skrull, who rolls superlative defense against 3 skulls with 4 defense and survives! Supa reaches the building top and swats Mar-vell... who dodges, spins, and fires back with Cosmic Awareness... giving Supa another wound. Mar-vell engages Kllrt and swings, but his attack is just blocked. Supa rolls another poor attack, which earns him another wound. Mar-vell attacks Kllrt again, but gets bounced back and takes a wound!
Round 3: Initiative Skrulls.
SupaSkrull, having bounced Mar-vell off the rooftop, reaches over from height to swat him hard, rolling 5 skulls to Mar-vell's 2 shields, giving him 2 wounds and bringing him to 4. Mar-vell re-engages and rolls 4 skulls... but once again Supa rolls 3 shields, ending the Protector of the Universe and taking 2 OMs with him. Supa spends his next 2 turns flying to the enemy startzone to swat Wolvie for a wound (who choses not to use X Healing).
Round 4: Initiative Wolvie.
Wolvie attacks Supa twice, but Supa rolls good defense and takes no wounds. Supa hits Wolvie hard, bringing him to 4 wounds. Wolvie slices into Kllrt for a 4th wound. Supa whiffs his attack. Wolvie slices a 5th wound into Supa. Skrulls move forward.
Round 5: Initiative Wolvie.
Wolvie ends SupaSkrull. Skrulls fire at Wolvie, but he blocks. Wolvie cuts down a Skrull. Wolvie goes from 1 wound to 5 from Skrull attacks. Wolvie cuts down another Skrull. The last Skrull fires and misses.
Round 6: Initiative Wolvie.
Wolvie catches the Skrull and cuts him down.
Summary: Wolvie remains with 3 wounds.

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? . Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? 400, possibly more
- Give a brief overview. I find that against heavy hitters, Mar-vell plays kind of like a suped-up Batman. He hits you fairly hard, and when you hit back, you're either gonna punish him, or he's gonna punish you. What this test shows, though, is if you can't keep up with him, or if you don't have a couple of solid attackers in your army, he's gonna crush you.
Map: X Marks The Spot
Units: Mar-vell, Kree Scouts x5 vs. Ronan, Kree Scouts x6
Spoiler Alert!
Round 1: Initiative Ronan.
Ronan sends 2 scouts out. So does Mar-vell, and they fire at their rebellious brothers to no effect. An RKree warps in Ronan and another Rkree, who fire and take out an MKree. An MKree warps in Mar-vell and another MKree, and fires ineffectively at an RKree. Mar-vell blasts Ronan for 3 wounds. An RKree fails an attack on an MKree, and Ronan moves up to slam Mar-Vell with the Universal Weapon... but rolls 2 skulls to Mar-vell's 3 shields and receives his 4th and 5th wounds. An Mkree picks off an RKree, and Mar-vell takes a rooftop and fires at Ronan, but rolls only 1 easily blocked skull.
Round 2: Initiative Ronan.
An RKree picks off an MKree, and Ronan swings the Universal Weapon, and rolls only 1 skull. Mar-vell easily evades it and picks off Ronan. An MKree fails to damage an RKree, but Mar-vell gets one just fine. 2 Rkrees fail to harm any Mkrees. Mar-vell picks off an Rkree. 2 Rkrees fail to harm an Mkree. Mar-vell and an Mkree both fail to bring down an Rkree.
Round 3: Initiative Ronan.
2 Rkrees whiff against Mkrees. Mar-vell and an Mkree both bring down an Rkree. Rkree fails to harm an Mkree. Mar-vell takes him down.
Summary: Full-life Mar-vell, 3 of his kree brothers remain.

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? . Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? 400. He's definitely in Superman's ballpark move and defense wise, but in a different way. He truly feels cosmic against street fighters, but with an underlaying humanity (okay, Kreemanity) that feels like his powers have been granted.
- Give a brief overview. I really felt he felt good here. Yes, he dominated, but I never felt as the Vigilante player that I couldn't take him down, just that I wasn't. It felt like, "hmmm... if I had just drafted a bit more oomph...", and really, the final Batman Mar-vell fight felt like it could've gone either way. Of course, team Vigilante woulda still had Cap and Hush to contend with...
Map: X Marks The Spot
Units: Mar-vell, Hasbro Captain America, Hush (840) vs. Batman (Bruce), Punisher, Daredevil, Robin, Huntress (850)
Spoiler Alert!
Round 1: Hush chooses Punisher for his OV. Initiative Mar-vell.
Mar-vell takes a rooftop. Huntress and Robin move out. Mar-vell goes to street level and nukes Huntress for 2 wounds. Desperate, Huntress moves in close and fires 2 ampes Crossbow bolts at him, but he blocks the first and retaliates on the second, finishing her and stealing Robin's turn. Mar-vell whiffs against Robin. Daredevil moves forward and gets a wound for throwing his Billy Club, as does Robin when he grapples to a rooftop.
Round 2: Initiative Vigilantes.
DD and Robin swarm Mar-vell, with DD getting in a wound and Robin's attack being just blocked. Mar-vell takes a rooftop and nukes Robin. Matt moves to the ladder and begins scaling. Mar-vell fires from the top of the ladder, but DD successfully defends. Matt scales the ladder to the top rung and attacks, but Mar-vell counters and gives him a wound. Mar-vell chooses to keep his vantage point to keep Matt pinned at height disadvantage, but DD rolls a successful Radar Sense and gets the rooftop.
Round 3: Initiative Vigilantes.
DD swings at Mar-vell and gets a wound for his trouble. Mar-vell fires, but Radar Sense blocks it. Matt pounds another wound into Mar-vell. Mar-vell fires again, but DD senses it. Unfortunately for Matt, he rolls 1 skull and Mar-vell retaliates, finishing him. Mar-vell puts 3 wounds on Punisher.
Round 4: Initiative Vigilantes.
Bats catches Mar-vell and pounds wounds 3 & 4 into him. Mar-vell breaks off and blasts another wound into Punisher. Bats attacks Mar-vell again, but his attack is just blocked. Mar-vell breaks off and finishes Punisher. Bats re-engages Mar-vell, but rolls only 1 skull and pays dearly with 3 wounds in retaliation. Mar-vell retakes a rooftop and hits Bats for his final wound.
Summary: Mar-vell with 4 wounds, full life Hush, Captain America remain.
Humbled to have been a C3G Hero!
