Re: Do you recommend mixing "superscape" and "normalscape"?
What do the official playtesters, designers, and creators have to say about mixing MARVEL with Classic?
Craig Van Ness is the creator of Heroscape
Grunge Bob is a friend of Craig's, and he started as a playtester and is now a designer, he also helped Craig to form the tournament scene for Heroscape
R˙chean is a playtester, and I am not sure, but he may also be a designer
Grunge Bob quotes CVN about the compatibility of MARVEL vs Classic
Grunge Bob reveals that Marvel and Classic were not meant to be compatible
Grunge Bob talks about some inconsistencies with Marvel points/bases/terrain and Classic points/bases/terrain
Grunge Bob does not recommend mixing MARVEL with Classic for tournaments/competitive play
Grunge Bob talks about the future of MARVEL and how even its future would not have been compatible with Classic
Grunge Bob doesn't mix MARVEL with Classic
R˙chean reveals that none of the DnD stuff is tested or balanced against the MARVEL stuff, and that they will never be compatible
So, is C3G fully compatible with Classic Scape?
Spoiler Alert!
From the stance of a
custom
game designer with integrity, I recognize that the official game is still in progress, and so there is no way I can claim or even attempt to guarantee a 100% compatibility between C3G cards created last year and Official Scape cards that will be created next year.... not unless we keep everything tentatively open for constant change each time something new is released.
Also, C3G's cost has been based on the cost of the Official Marvel set, which was not based on the same values and playtesting with the official Classic Scape.
So for those reasons, we responsible C3G designers must say that our game can be played with the classic game, and it can be lots of fun, but we don't recommend it because we can't give it the guarantee that we can if you played a C3G exclusive game.
One thing I happened to notice:
Spoiler Alert!
The Rise of Valkyrie, Swarm of the Marro, and Battle for the Underdark Master sets are titled Master Set 1, 2, and 3 in that order. Yet, the Marvel Master set came out before the Battle for the Underdark and it has no Master Set number as though it was always intended to be a stand alone game, just as the designers and playtesters have stated. I think this shows us a bit how the Official Hasbro/WotC has always felt about the subject.
