Re: Wave 9 Influence

I don't see why WotC's being forced to travel backward in time to alter the design of wave 9 should discourage us from admiring the gargantuan monolith of influence that we hard-core gamers here at...

Re: Order Marker Observation...a solution.

This has never been an issue for me, as I have never played in tournaments. I've always considered OM placement fair game for analysis, though if the practice were to ever start bogging down the...

Re: Take that banana, Kirk Cameron!

QualiaSoup makes excellent informative videos. This is one of his best. Stylistically it would seem that the videos often owe much to Lawrence Lessig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Lessig),...

Re: Is Heroscape more luck or skill?

Though an unfortunate loss, I had mostly given up on being able to use OMs in this situation. If you have any idea how they might be preserved, please share. I haven't been able to come up with...

Re: Is Heroscape more luck or skill?

Yes, it's exhaustive, and maybe too much. As a tool, though, it's only redundant if I presume that everyone has the kind of map that allows a player to rotate viewing angles in 3D, or else is using a...

Re: Is Heroscape more luck or skill?

I for one completely agree. Even if a losing player thinks and feels "robbed by the dice", it's best not to make an issue of communicating this kind of disappointment repeatedly. Doing so only gives...

Re: Is Heroscape more luck or skill?

There are no convincing arguments for those who've already made up their minds, though demonstrations sometimes work.

So... As a kind of public thought experiment by way of demonstrating the...

Re: Is Heroscape more luck or skill?

It's all about understanding the contingencies that are involved and formulating priorities for addressing them. Without understanding this, it's easy to gloss over much of the cognitive heavy...

Re: Is Heroscape more luck or skill?

I always give credit to my opponent for winning, regardless of the circumstances leading to the win. If she wins on average more than I do, I also give her credit for being a better Heroscape player...

Re: Is Heroscape more luck or skill?

I like this metaphor. I like that it breaks influences down by internal vs. external, which I take to man those you can hope to control and those you cannot. The only quibble I might have is that...

Re: Is Heroscape more luck or skill?

It seems that all games, all competitions, all processes whose outcomes are governed by selective forces (e.g. evolution), are also subject to chance to different extents. Chance creeps into every...

Honestly, I'm not sure I can offer a consistent answer to that question. At first, I thought I would go with light rules, and consequently I believed that Castles & Crusades might be the game to...

It appears to be a d10 RPG that uses a wide range of historically authentic medieval settings, but also includes hermetic, pagan, and folklore-based mythological elements as well. So, a campaign...

Ars Magica, or other RPG?

Apologies if this duplicates any thread, but I searched and came up with nothing.

Sgt. Dre Alexander?

I would love it if I found a Drake-of-color in a set I had just bought, and the figure would undoubtably call for some modified stats.

Yes. This is the key observation. If only TKN could continue stomping upon missing preceding attempts (w/ independent rolls), then his power would be well worth the cost.
