I should note that BattleLore: Command does have some noticeable differences between the board game in how some of the special abilities work, and the card play. That said, it's still a lot of fun.

Using multiple "unique" squads (casual)
I found a thread from about 8 years ago talking about having "uncommon" squads instead of "unique" squads, but in 8 years, opinions and thoughts can change.

It was only off by 13 or 14 (depending on if you are counting 333 or 334). That's just over 1% "off" of the expected probability (using 1000 as the measurement, not 320)

As ollie says, moving in Heroscape means moving from one hex to another; it does not imply implied "dodging" or "movement" or anything. Otherwise, you could imply that a Clawed unit can't make...

The big questions will be how long it takes. I found a library called wxWidgets that supposedly mimics a lot of what MFC does, but more multi-platform, so I'm hoping it will port easily.

Well, for what it's worth, the "Fe" in the Iron symbol comes from the Latin "Ferrum". I'm not sure where Fey comes from, but it sounds more Old English or Celtic to me.
