Re: OHS 36 - Heat & Insanity - CONGRATS MTL1998!

Congrats mtl! I thought your gameplay this event was really high level and you did a better job unlocking the format than just about anyone.

On that note, I'd like to dive into some thoughts on...

Re: Movement powers that break (and do not break) engagement

Oh, quite right. I removed it from the OP.

I believe there was an actual ruling from the rules team stating that D-Ts don't break engagement when climbing around behind something. So, either this...

Re: The Book of Skyscraper - VOTE for Initial Playtesting

Yeah, the wall walks on top are definitely terrain. I don't believe the wall pieces are ever explicitly defined one way or the other in the rules. Based on the definitions we have, an uncapped wall...

Re: The Book of Varkaanan Blade Dancers

SWT was simply a matter of templating being changed to match the many other "place" powers that move figures without counting space-by-space. I see SWT not as attempting to match the wording of...

Re: 10 Points Under - Heroscape Casting Videos

I really like kevindola's framing of "what does winning/losing look like". It's conceptually extremely similar to the variance stuff I've talked about several times but it's a great way to put it.

Re: Movement powers that break (and do not break) engagement

The official FAQ, mainly. It specifically speaks to flying and "Leap Like Special Powers", which are grouped together in several rulings. It specifically covers how these powers create a special...

Re: The Book of Varkaanan Blade Dancers

It's a long list of powers. Since this is a broader issue that exists without customs, I made a post in the rules forum (https://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=57598).

We can put...

Movement powers that break (and do not break) engagement

Powers that use the "[move] over water without stopping, pass over figures without becoming engaged, and fly over obstacles such as ruins" wording always break engagement at the beginning of the...

Re: The Book of Varkaanan Blade Dancers

dok ?
The easiest way to explain it is that Steath Leap uses the flying wording that has a known ruling attached to it, while Blade Dancing is just "do what card says".

Blade Dance is a...

Re: The Book of Varkaanan Blade Dancers

It's based on location and wording where falling damage is introduced:

This is in the section on counting movement, immediately following the rules about counting height when climbing. This...

Re: The Book of Varkaanan Blade Dancers

The wording suggests the Blade Dancer is leaving the engagement with the attacking figure.
No, it doesn't (mean to) suggest that. It simply means that she doesn't take leaving engagement...

Re: 2020 C3V Playtest Tournament - Round 1 until 7/5

This is a solid summary of the game. A few thoughts, mostly just emphasizing points above:

Axentia takes a long time to kill

Phoenix Rising triggered in a highly advantageous way for me...

Re: OHS 36 - Heat & Insanity - Quarterfinals until 6/21

The thing is that same-level lava is distressingly common. Two of the last three lava maps that the BoV accepted (Can't take the Heat and Stygian Rift) have same-level lava. And they're hardly a rare...

Re: OHS 36 - Heat & Insanity - Round 4 until 6/14

The Quarterfinals are Heat of Battle on Hot Border.

mtl1998 has a bye.

The chris perkins (4-0) v. knight of scape (3-1)...

Re: 10 Points Under - Heroscape Casting Videos

Oh man, you lost video from those two games where I played badly and lost? Bummer. ;)

Seriously though, sorry to hear that, it really is a bummer.

Thanks again for all your work on these...

Re: OHS 36 - Heat & Insanity - Round 4 until 6/14

For those who are concerned about it, the dice and time stats are back up. You should even be able to look back on older games and see them.

Re: Green Wyrmling discussion and playtesting

That's nyys's review, but anyway, and I think the characterization of that criticism as being about the power level is fair. He's saying he thinks it's stronger than other counterstriking armies.

Re: Green Wyrmling discussion and playtesting

I agree, I like that quite a bit.

Just putting that together:

LIFE = 1
MOVE = 5
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 4
DEFENSE = 4
POINTS = 35

Re: OHS 36 - Heat & Insanity - Round 3 until 6/7

You may place figures you on molten lava in HoB rounds, however if they are not lava resistant you immediately the d20 for survival.

Re: Green Wyrmling discussion and playtesting

I am ok a D&D green dragon wyrmling, and I am ok with a non-D&D green wyrmling that is not a non-green D&D dragon miniature. For the former, I would be fine as long as the design was based on a D&D...

Re: Green Wyrmling discussion and playtesting

I'm unclear here; are you insisting it be a D&D style green wyrmling model, or would you accept a different green wyrmling mini so long as it wasn't actually a D&D copper wyrmling mini or the like?

Re: Green Wyrmling discussion and playtesting

FWIW I completely agree with the notion that if symmetry is what is motivating a green Ullar wyrmling with counterstrike (which it is, of course), then creating a wyrmling that is uncommon or lacks...
