Sidebars do a couple things that I agree are positives:
Increase the viability of some counter-figures (repulsors, Warriors of Ashra, etc)
Reduce the likelihood of a drastically slanted matchup...

I don't know, but it seems to me like a simple solution is to always incorporate some kind of side-bar in tournaments. I believe that it has already been used with some success at a previous gen-con....

I don't want to see Raelin banned. I think doing so might actually break the game balance since certain already competitive builds which don't currently make much use of her (4th, knights, etc.)...

Depends on how strict your definition of range is. The hydra has a range of 2 (sort of), and when unwounded gets 4 normal attacks of 4.

Also, a wounded Evar can potentially have a higher normal...

At 24 figures plus 12 markers and 7 additional life from cell divide you need an average of 43 successful hits against defense 3 to take this army down. If they took 1 1/2 average hits consistently...

Against range, the 4th are much better then the 10th.

Against melee, the 10th are much better then the 4th. The ablitiy to move and still get attacks of 3 should not be underestimated.

Let's compare them to the Heavies.

Each Death Chaser is worth 18.5 points which makes them more expensive on per figure basis then a 17.5 point Heavy.

They've got 1 more attack and 1 less...

These guys probably have the greatest variance in capability of any unit in the game between facing a special attack/non special attack heavy opponent. Even more so then a gobblin/brute army.

I don't see any restriction on using barge into battle to replace one Brute with another. That means that you could use an O.M. to bring up some brutes from the rear and still be able to attack...
