Re: What's your BAG, baby? Bay Area Gamers

I'm fortunate enough to have a regular gaming group, but I'm not getting in any scape these days ... partly my fault ... D&D and lots of eurogames. The holidays are tough, but come the new year I'd...

Re: Bay Area Brawl - NHSD '09

Ronin, thanks for the heads up. I'm a big maybe that time of year.

I've scouted Gamescape as a possible venue before. Unless they have something in the back their play area is pretty small. I'm...

Re: NORCAL FACTION 'n ACTION TOURNAMENT [?May/June/July?]

D!

I've been thinking about a faction based tourney for a bit, but you beat me too it. I gotta digest your concept and check with my social coordinator. I'm sure I'll have questions and proposed...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

RV gave me all of the tourney sheets, but my dance card has been full since the tourney ... Tahoe Trip and then fire drills at work. I should find some time over the next week to crunch the numbers.

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

Heretic confirmed that he is a Maybe.

I'm already bringing a map, so I might as well bring one of the sideboards ... I'll field Sideboard D.

Back on the topic of Maps. Katsuno Land does not...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

First come first served is great for matches that finish early, but I think we need to have a system for dealing with multiple people at one time going to the sideboard (e.g. after time is called). ...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

I thought my rambling circular arguments were fairly clear. But for the sake of those that can not follow:

Without being able to draft an army you already commanded you set up conditions...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

I figured that was what wrecked my digestive track ... your weak attempts at sabotage will do you NO good MacDirk!

I dunno. It seems flawed. If I bring a kick ass army that wins all the time...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

Damn MacDirk, always throwing a wrench in the works. You make some excellent points. I had to noodle on them for a bit. Logically they all made sense, but something in my gut was twisting.

I...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

That was exactly how I played the situation. The "ladder bridge" also seems to provide a height advantage over the starting zone. Ladders help stabilize single hex columns, so they have multiple...

I figured as much, but wanted the official word.

A few other issues ...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

I'll further explain my rational about tourney maps, it quite simple: a variety of balanced maps.

Balance is the first thing I look at since it is the most importance thing in a tourney map. ...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

Hot Spot: No doubt about it, it is kinda small. Very easy for the person who wins initiative to take the high ground and start shooting into the opposing starting zone. Zelrig is VERY powerful on...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

RV is the man calling the shots. I'm just bored at work and one of the peanut gallery ...

I have yet to get an army to hit 475 pt exactly, but I have a few 470 pt armies I am playing around with...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

I got word that Racer X will be in attendance. That's nearly a full crew from my neck of the woods ... missing Morning Star, Sexy Mama, and a couple of others.

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

I got a game on Katsuno Land this weekend. Hard to say how it plays since my dice were so cold that I only defended a couple time and only landed two hits over the entire (short) game ... I've never...

Maps ...

Just noticed on Katsuno Land, the side with the large ruin has only one land hex exit (the others are water). The small ruin has a one land hex and one ice hex. I haven't played the map...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

A HS progression can get a little tricky. Matching up opponents are generally easy, but the extra variable of the battlefield can get weird. I generally like to have everyone play a new map each...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

Opposite pages, but it doesn't matter. I looked at it a bit closer. With the scoring presented above, the first game point differential is 3 points between the winner and loser, regardless.

:duh:

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

That logic breaks down a bit ... if a person loses they really have no choice in the matter, it is all up to the winner ... but I know where you're coming from. The point spread may be a good...

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

Yep, its the only way to take 'em for a test drive and get maximum game time the day of the event ...

I got a couple of sheets of plywood cut down for the sole purpose of transporting battlefields.

Re: NorCal New Year-New Army Tourney.

I'll raise it to the attention of the group this week ... MacDirk, his brother Angus, and Racer X.

Reapersaurus showed up outta the blue for NHSD. I'll PM him through BGG to see if this is on his...
