I would say go to the folder where VirtualScape is installed and search for nothing but:
.ini
I think only one file will come up (I don't remember the exact name; I'm on my phone right now).

Search for the `.ini` file and post the contents here. I'm not sure about the rendering issue, but I might be able to help with the French bit.

I'm curious if anyone knows how to add assets and terrain types to VS without recompiling it. I'm thinking ahead to AoA coming out and us not having any means to design maps using all the new stuff....

OpenGL is like a framework or library for dealing with graphics. Usually you have to have so e drivers installed for it to work, I think. You could try updating the OpenGL drivers on your VM.

It's thorny. I do have it compiling on Windows 10 with Visual Studio 2015. I'm not sure it's very stable, though.
