Having just gone to a local tournament where I was running spiders and 3 Wyverns, if the Wyvern was Unique, I don't think I would ever use the spiders again. This hurts their army way too much....

I don't consider a Cyclops to be a D&D creature at all, its a classic mythology monster (that D&D happens to use). So making Gurei-Onii a Cyclops would not D&Dnize him at all, not even close
