Re: UK Scapers (The life and times of RichardD)

Nobody here but us chickens.

And I'm only here by accident - trying find some pictures of the giant game I put on ten years ago.

Re: UK Scapers (The life and times of RichardD)

It's the first time I've been back here in a long while! I was looking for my photos from the first UK Games Expo (my, how that event has grown!), and discover that I've missed loads of other...

Re: Airsoft

The answer to the question is largely "it depends", by the way. From model to model, the performance is pretty much the same (expensive Systemas aside). Ignore garbage about MP5s only being good...

Re: Airsoft

Ah, the old "what is the best gun?" topic. Used to crop up at least once a week on the two airsoft boards I read back when I used to be a regular player.

These days, I'm too old, fat and busy to...

Re: News for the UK

The last couple of waves can be bought from specialist games shops that were (eventually) able to carry the game. In order to get decent amounts of terrain, you want to hunt down more copies of the...

Re: UK Scapers (The life and times of RichardD)

'Fraid not, Sam. I have no spares of anything outside of the RotV figures (I still have a fair few duplicates after buying nine of that particular master set).

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

My take on these games:

Ascension - an almost entirely tactical deck building game, where you cannot really hope to make any realistic long-term plans or decisions. I'm not a fan.

Thunderstone...

Re: RoboDerby: Express (Print and Play RoboRally)

What do you need those dice for? You now know the secret of using ordinary blank dice (and you have a suitable graphic file done). :D

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

I go to Essen every year - it's a German city that holds an annual boardgame event each October. I've been going for 15 years. Back when times were better, I'd come home with 40 or 50 new games...

Re: The princess bride

Yes, I've read the book - a couple of times. And seen the movie countless times. It' probably the most quotable film all time; almost every line is a gem.

Inigo Montoya: I hate waiting. I could...

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?

The best British sitcom of the past ten years was Coupling.Written by the chap that has gone on to write almost all of the best new Doctor Who episodes, and starring several people who have gone on...

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?

I saw True Grit - the remake - at the weekend.

And as soon as it comes out at the cinema here, I'm going and taking my dad (so there's *two* cinema tickets that wouldn't have been bought *without*...

Re: Books: What are you currently reading?

Yeah - no kidding. On a related note, I was thinking about how plot-dense the last two books have been and I have a sneaking suspicion that we just got half a dozen Jordan books worth of plot in the...

Re: What is your favorite fantasy book?

Gosh. Plenty in this thread that I wouldn't use as firelighters, let alone ever want to read again. The Lord of the Rings I've read 7 times, and I loathe it more with each reading. Eddings -...

Re: George R. R. Martin (as well as other recommendations)

Robert Jordan had a chronic illness that killed him after a fight of several years, and he was already most of the way through the series before becoming ill. He had the presence of mind to leave...

Re: Small World

I've been buying all of the Small World expansions, but although I really enjoyed Vinci (the game on which Small World is based), I had a couple of mediocre experiences playing SW when it first came...

Re: Dominion.

In all honesty I don't think I'd over-emphasize the "skill" part. Everything I've done I have learned either from the woodwork lessons I had at school aged 11 and 12 (here in the UK we don't teach...

Re: Dominion.

The slots are separated by about 6mm, and the cards stand vertically. As all the cards have their title printed across the top, it's simply a matter of looking down into the box at approximately 45...

Re: Dominion.

I played a LOT of standard Dominion (mostly on BSW, but plenty face-to-face). But apart from the Intrigue cards that made it to BSW, I've not played much Intrigue, very little Seaside, some Alchemy...

Re: What board game is your favorite?

I have too many favourites to remember.

Heroscape is the game that I would take with me to a desert island, if I was only allowed to take the one game.

Other great games I would buy again if my...

Re: Agricola

Breeding animals - you only get ONE new "baby" each harvest, no matter how many "adult" animals you have (so long as you had at least one pair); so even if you have 10 sheep already, you only get 1...

Re: UK Scapers (The life and times of RichardD)

I got it ages ago. Didn't really look at it though. Whose idea was it to introduce a seventh general in the last ever wave? Because that's the definition given in my dictionary when I look up the...

Re: Small World

I picked up the Be Not Afraid expansion, along with the Necromancer's Island last week in Essen. Lord knows why, as I don't like the way everyone always picks on me whenever we play Small World. ...
