Character Bio - Cassandra Cain was born the daughter of two killers, assassins Lady Shiva and David Cain. Cain raised her, depriving her of speech and human contact throughout her childhood while training her to become the world’s greatest assassin. This experience unlocked her latent Metahuman abilities to read body language and predict how fighters would move and react, giving her a distinct advantage in hand-to-hand combat. While her upbringing resulted in mastery of martial arts, it also resulted in muteness, limited social skills, and illiteracy. Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Barbara Gordon (former and current Batgirl, then Oracle) took her under their wings as Batgirl and helped train her not only to use her fighting abilities for good, but also helped her start to find her voice (both figuratively and literally).

-Rulings and Clarifications-
  • Q: Can Batgirl use Shadow of the Bat even though another figure is going to take a turn after that Vigilante? For example, Batman reveals an Order Marker and Robin wants to use Vigilante Sidekick, can Batgirl still use Shadow the Bat?
  • A: Yes. Shadow of the Bat activates after the Vigilante moves, so the Vigilante's turn isn't over yet. The Vigilante could still attack after that. Robin's turn doesn't come in until after the Vigilante's full turn is over.

Re: The Book of Batgirl (Cassandra Cain)

NAME = BATGIRL
SECRET IDENTITY = CASSANDRA CAIN

SPECIES = HUMAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = SIDEKICK
PERSONALITY = DISCIPLINED

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4

MOVE = 6
RANGE = 5
ATTACK = 4
DEFENSE = 4

POINTS = 130

SHADOW OF THE BAT
After revealing an Order Marker on any Vigilante card you control and moving that Vigilante, if Batgirl is within 6 clear sight spaces of that Vigilante, you may immediately move Batgirl with her Bat-Grapple 3 special power.

DEFENSIVE PREMONITION 9
Before rolling defense dice for Batgirl, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 9 or higher, roll 3 additional defense dice and if the attacking figure is within 3 clear sight spaces of Batgirl, count each excess shield as one unblockable hit on the attacking figure.

BAT-GRAPPLE 3
Instead of her normal move, Batgirl may move up to 3 spaces with Bat-Grapple. When moving with Bat-Grapple, Batgirl has the Flying special power, but may not move up or down more than 30 levels in a single grapple, and will not take any leaving engagement attacks.

Awesome. I really like how Shadow of The Bat allows her to tag along with Batman and Robin. :D

Defensive Premonition is a really fun power too.

Re: The Book of Batgirl (Cassandra Cain)

Thanks! I originally had Vigilante Sidekick but it just wasn't sitting right as she's only kind of a Sidekick (enough that I can justify the class for Titan synergies and Alfred synergies!). Griff came up with the power and I loved it (and the name especially).
Defensive Premonition originally involved rolling some extra combat dice before rolling defense, but after the Shield Belt thread, I decided it was best to revert to the trust D20. I like how it feels like a different version of Evasive Strike that's both more effective and less effective.

Nice design. I can't comment on theme, but mechanics look pretty tight here.

Thanks. I'll get a bio up here in a few bits to help with the theme discussion.

Re: The Book of Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) - Design Phase

I'm fine with any of them, so I figure I'll just do what I've been doing and let whoever does the art pick one (and then if Griff hates it, he'll tell you. :-P ).
Bio posted - now I just need to figure out if Hahma (or anyone else) already posted pictures for this mini.

Re: The Book of Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) - Design Phase

Great stuff Bats. :up:

DEFENSIVE PREMONITION 11
Before rolling defense dice normally for Batgirl, if there is at least one unrevealed Order Marker on this card, first roll the 20-sided die. If you roll an 11 or higher, add one automatic shield to Batgirl’s defense, and if the attacking figure is within 3 clear sight spaces of Batgirl, it receives one wound.

Because she doesn't ignore the attack, a figure with just one life point left could attack her, she rolls 11, gets an auto shield, then deals damage to the attacking figure. It is unclear if the attacking figure is gone, does Batgirl still defend against the attack? May I suggest either lose the auto shield and just avoid the attack, or get rid of the auto wound.

Re: The Book of Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) - Design Phase

Getting rid of the auto wound would kill the whole direction I wanted for the design and just avoiding the attack would basically make this Evasive Strike with a much lower roll. Instead, I'm going to strive to clarify that issue (which is definitely there, so thank you for pointing it out). I'll put up a suggested revision in my next post.
