Cockles
But the joke is that that aforementioned word, which is quite innocent, shares a similar sound and spelling with a less innocent slang word for the male anatomy. :-P |

Not a question, but we need this guy banned immediately. He's spamming up my fan fiction with porn links.

Well... I wasn't expecting that. Thank you so much ! :oops: I checked my Avatar option page, and the limit is still the same. If I put a bigger one, it resizes to 180x80 px limit. So Contributor role is not the source of unlimited (avatar) power..! :mrgreen: |

Re: Official Site Question Dump
I had question about site supporter image or file uploads. Ive been on the fence for for a bit to pay to be a supporter as Id do the bigger pledge. Question is: can you upload pictures to here straight from your phone? Similar to facebook? Also, if anyone has a "list" of perks that you get from being a site supporter that would greatly help my decision. There are quite a few fun things Id like to share but need a more convenient way to post things.

Re: Official Site Question Dump
Could someone help me with how to PM someone images? I’d like to send some custom cards out but can’t seem to figure it out. I’m sure it’s simple, but it’s not obvious. Search wasn’t any help.
Thanks in advance. |
Re: Official Site Question Dump
A site supporter can upload them directly to 'Scapers. Otherwise, you have to post them somewhere (Imgur or Google Drive, for instance) and send a link.

As far as I know, no it doesn't get any easier to post pics directly to the site via a phone camera. You do get some storage space her though I believe, I don't think I've ever used it though. I still just host my pictures somewhere else and link them. |

Re: Official Site Question Dump
You get access to the gallery, where you can upload pictures from your phone or computer. You have to link from the gallery to a post from there, though.

Re: Official Site Question Dump
What I do is upload pictures to discord and just have a personal “uploading” server, and use that to host the images.
|
Re: Official Site Question Dump
Thanks for the answers everyone. I was mainly wondering if it was more convenient with the use of a phone. Ill have to see what Im going to shoot for.

Yeah! Just open the image in discord, hit "open original" and it opens it in a browser window. Copy the URL for image tagging.

Re: Official Site Question Dump
Beware with Discord : in a privacy aspect, you are just completely giving all your stuff to them.
Following their privacy policy, everything you upload to Discord platform belong to them and they can do whatever they want with it... (even claim rights on it one day or another...). Could be OK if it's not too valuable stuff or things you don't bother a lot... but otherwise you should keep that in mind when you upload stuff to Discord. Uploading to HeroScapers feels like a very nice feature for reliability point of view : if you upload here stuff to post on the same place, the links should be available as long as needed... and less privacy risks (at least.. I suppose. I did not read Heroscapers.com privacy policy. :P ). -------------- Avatar became bigger now, working..! ... but I'm not even sure that i finally got a real answer to my question... it is really linked to Contributor role, or is it just an Admin trick..? https://cdn.discordapp.com/emojis/31...1929231361.png |
Re: Official Site Question Dump
Thanks all for the answers to my questions. One other very simple question. Is the Contributor badge pretty much the same as the site supporter badge, but is just given to certain individuals for no charge? I understand that people asking for the contributor status are people that intend to make content for the site, but what is it that makes them eligible for those freebies? It comes down to: Do I want to spend 40 dollars on something that essentially others get for free. The questions are to help me justify that. I myself have contributed to quite a few projects and contests for years along with other endeavors but want to know the difference?
P.S. I'm not asking to be a contributor or get any freebies, just wanting to know the difference. |
Re: Official Site Question Dump
I don't think getting something out of it is the right reason to become a site supporter. I think the best reason is you love the site and want to support its continued existence.
I think I probably could've made a decent case to become a contributor if that's the route I wanted to go. But I chose another direction. |

Re: Official Site Question Dump
For sure. I only really have my personal experience to offer, though. Other than hearing people asking for contributor status for one reason or another and seeing it granted in a few situations, I don't really know that much about it or get too involved with it as a concept.

Re: Official Site Question Dump
I became a site supporter a few years back after I had already been using the site just about daily for a few years. Just wanted to make sure the lights were kept on at a place I enjoyed hanging out at, and I appreciate the site isn't covered in click bait ads everywhere. Don't think I've ever used any of the 'perks' that came with becoming a site supporter, if I did I didn't realize it.

And, no, Contributor is not the same as Site Supporter. Contributors get a number of things that "regular" users (technically, "Registered Users") don't get; site supporters get a number of things even beyond that. For instance, the larger avatar size used to be one of those things, until like 3 days ago. ;) There are some more things as well. The ability to hand out negative reputation would probably be the most significant one. But there's probably others; it's not trivial to figure out what all the differences are, or else I would just go look it up for you. But the point is, there are advantages to being a Site Supporter that being a Contributor won't get you. No promises as to whether those are any advantages you might actually be interested in or not. ;) Of course, if you want to start contributing a bunch of stuff, and do that for a few months or years or what-have-you, you could get the Contributor status instead, and it might be all you need. :thumbsup: |
Central Perk
For me personally, a functionally limitless PM box is the best perk of being a Site Supporter, although I do really like being able to upload to the site directly as well.
~Dysole, who has far and away the most PMs on the site; it's not even close |
Re: Official Site Question Dump
Thanks for the more spelled out version
@Xotli
and also
@Dysole
for spelling out the other perk. I mainly was wondering just for ease of access to upload pictures and such which got me wondering about the other. I dont wish to have the contributor title and most of this was for my curiosity and to see if I wanted to Justify the cost of uploading pictures easier. I appreciate all you guys feedback and am satisfied in my curiosity. Thanks for your time in responding to me.

Re: Official Site Question Dump
My curiosity is also more than fulfilled with all those information. Thanks a lot guys. :)

I got the PM perk from working for the Codex. Best thing I've got out of that! :)

Thanks @Xolti. I will also take the time to say that Moderators get special permissions as well (outside of deleting/moving forum threads/posts), but I will leave it at that as I don't want to make others jealous (or have access removed that
@Xotli
was also not aware of ;))

Re: Official Site Question Dump
Well as long as this thread is seeing some action, I might as well throw my hat into the ring.
I've had a weird bug for probably at least a year now, if not longer. When I type posts, I hit the enter key twice to start a new paragraph. I like the extra line. But for the longest time now, when I hit post, there are two extra lines between paragraphs, for a total of three blank lines. You can see this in this very post. I asked this question long ago, and someone suggested clearing the cache, which I have done several times since then, but that's never changed anything. The extra lines aren't particularly in the way of anything, but they are annoying to deal with. Here are the details I've observed:
(I realize that the fact it works on chrome and that chrome doesn't have the WYSIWYG editor, and that blog comments are the only thing on HSers also without the editor, probably indicate that the problem is with the WYSIWYG editor. I just don't know what to do about it.) Does anyone know why this has been happening? And if there's anything I can do about it? ~TGRF. |
Re: Official Site Question Dump
Don't know why it happens, but it happens to me as well. I also know a few others mentioned it on the C3G section way back when it first started happening, like a year and half ago or more. It did seem to stop for a while, maybe 2 months or so I didn't see it happening, but then it started up again. I just find myself editing most of my post immediately after posting them to delete the extra spaces between paragraphs.

Re: Official Site Question Dump
I also faced this issue a few posts ago.
...but I realized it when clicking "Preview Post", before submiting the reply. Doing this, the extra lines appear in the WYSIWYG editor and I was able to get rid of them. Post submission after that seems to work without any extra line between paragraphs..! :) ...trying it with this post. Yup, could fix them without re-edition after posting. |
Re: Official Site Question Dump
Edit, for some reason I didn't see any posts after this one so I missed that it was answered already.

@Xorlof
tried to fix a couple times in the last few months. Fingers crossed it'll get addressed with a more permanent solution this time!
