Cockles

But the joke is that that aforementioned word, which is quite innocent, shares a similar sound and spelling with a less innocent slang word for the male anatomy. :-P

Disclaimer : French guy writing here.
In french, when we say "there is a cockles in my code", it means there is a faulty code somewhere that should be corrected. Is this the meaning here in english too, or did I missed something else ?
*and... sorry if I just broke a simple joke ahah*

EDIT : oups, nope, The Grim Reaper's Friend hasn't a "big" avatar, he is straight at the limit. Didn't take into account the 180 max width.

Yes, I'm exactly at the limit. I would suggest you simply PM one of those people with bigger avatars and ask them what the size limits are in the CP. That should clear it up pretty fast if they are different than yours.

Well, TGRF is also a "contributor" because of his status as Codex Editor. I dunno if making you a contributor too would help out, but, given your amazing contribution yourself, let's just try it and see what happens, shall we? ;)

Well... I wasn't expecting that. Thank you so much !

I checked my Avatar option page, and the limit is still the same. If I put a bigger one, it resizes to 180x80 px limit. So Contributor role is not the source of unlimited (avatar) power..!

I had question about site supporter image or file uploads. Ive been on the fence for for a bit to pay to be a supporter as Id do the bigger pledge. Question is: can you upload pictures to here straight from your phone? Similar to facebook? Also, if anyone has a "list" of perks that you get from being a site supporter that would greatly help my decision. There are quite a few fun things Id like to share but need a more convenient way to post things.

Could someone help me with how to PM someone images? I’d like to send some custom cards out but can’t seem to figure it out. I’m sure it’s simple, but it’s not obvious. Search wasn’t any help.

A site supporter can upload them directly to 'Scapers. Otherwise, you have to post them somewhere (Imgur or Google Drive, for instance) and send a link.

As far as I know, no it doesn't get any easier to post pics directly to the site via a phone camera. You do get some storage space her though I believe, I don't think I've ever used it though. I still just host my pictures somewhere else and link them.

Yeah! Just open the image in discord, hit "open original" and it opens it in a browser window. Copy the URL for image tagging.

Re: Official Site Question Dump

Beware with Discord : in a privacy aspect, you are just completely giving all your stuff to them.

Following their privacy policy, everything you upload to Discord platform belong to them and they can do whatever they want with it... (even claim rights on it one day or another...).

Could be OK if it's not too valuable stuff or things you don't bother a lot... but otherwise you should keep that in mind when you upload stuff to Discord.
Uploading to HeroScapers feels like a very nice feature for reliability point of view : if you upload here stuff to post on the same place, the links should be available as long as needed... and less privacy risks (at least.. I suppose. I did not read Heroscapers.com privacy policy. :P ).

Thanks all for the answers to my questions. One other very simple question. Is the Contributor badge pretty much the same as the site supporter badge, but is just given to certain individuals for no charge? I understand that people asking for the contributor status are people that intend to make content for the site, but what is it that makes them eligible for those freebies? It comes down to: Do I want to spend 40 dollars on something that essentially others get for free. The questions are to help me justify that. I myself have contributed to quite a few projects and contests for years along with other endeavors but want to know the difference?
P.S. I'm not asking to be a contributor or get any freebies, just wanting to know the difference.

I don't think getting something out of it is the right reason to become a site supporter. I think the best reason is you love the site and want to support its continued existence.

I think I probably could've made a decent case to become a contributor if that's the route I wanted to go. But I chose another direction.

That doesn't answer the question pertaining to being a contributor, but nonetheless I think I've come to the conclusion of what I will personally do. Thanks for humoring my curiosity.

For sure. I only really have my personal experience to offer, though. Other than hearing people asking for contributor status for one reason or another and seeing it granted in a few situations, I don't really know that much about it or get too involved with it as a concept.

I became a site supporter a few years back after I had already been using the site just about daily for a few years. Just wanted to make sure the lights were kept on at a place I enjoyed hanging out at, and I appreciate the site isn't covered in click bait ads everywhere. Don't think I've ever used any of the 'perks' that came with becoming a site supporter, if I did I didn't realize it.

Avatar size is linked to usergroup. Certain usergroups have the larger size; certain ones don't. I sort of thought that contributors did have the larger size, but they didn't. Now they do. That's all.

No, you have a misunderstanding there: Contributor status isn't for people who plan to make things for the site. It's for people who have already contributed to the site in some significant ways. It's much easier for site supporters to contribute, but some people bust their ass and contribute anyway, even without that. Contributor status is their reward.

And, no, Contributor is not the same as Site Supporter. Contributors get a number of things that "regular" users (technically, "Registered Users") don't get; site supporters get a number of things even beyond that. For instance, the larger avatar size used to be one of those things, until like 3 days ago. ;) There are some more things as well. The ability to hand out negative reputation would probably be the most significant one. But there's probably others; it's not trivial to figure out what all the differences are, or else I would just go look it up for you. But the point is, there are advantages to being a Site Supporter that being a Contributor won't get you. No promises as to whether those are any advantages you might actually be interested in or not. ;)

Of course, if you want to start contributing a bunch of stuff, and do that for a few months or years or what-have-you, you could get the Contributor status instead, and it might be all you need.

Re: Official Site Question Dump

Well as long as this thread is seeing some action, I might as well throw my hat into the ring.

I've had a weird bug for probably at least a year now, if not longer. When I type posts, I hit the enter key twice to start a new paragraph. I like the extra line. But for the longest time now, when I hit post, there are two extra lines between paragraphs, for a total of three blank lines. You can see this in this very post.

I asked this question long ago, and someone suggested clearing the cache, which I have done several times since then, but that's never changed anything.

The extra lines aren't particularly in the way of anything, but they are annoying to deal with. Here are the details I've observed:

  • This all began after I used a bulleted list once. Before the bulleted list, everything was fine. After the list, text had two extra spaces, and it's been that way ever since. I could probably find the exact post again after an hour or two of searching.
  • When typing, the post looks perfectly fine and normal. The extra spaces only appear when I hit post, or when I turn off the WYSIWYG editor (at which point I can backspace them out).
  • This bug happens everywhere, including when creating threads, blogs, and PMs. The only place it does not happen is on comments on blogs. I can also turn off the WYSIWYG editor on anything and type normally, and the extra spaces do not come through.
  • There has never been any weird code or anything I've sense which could cause this.
  • As I said, clearing the cache does nothing.
  • This bug is only on HSers.
  • This bug is only on Firefox. Chrome does not have this issue.
I realize probably the first thing anyone is going to say is: move to Chrome. That won't work. I can't read HSers on Chrome, because the text is too thin, and the WYSIWYG editor does not exist for some reason. It also has some other problems.

(I realize that the fact it works on chrome and that chrome doesn't have the WYSIWYG editor, and that blog comments are the only thing on HSers also without the editor, probably indicate that the problem is with the WYSIWYG editor. I just don't know what to do about it.)

Does anyone know why this has been happening? And if there's anything I can do about it?

~TGRF.

Re: Official Site Question Dump

Don't know why it happens, but it happens to me as well. I also know a few others mentioned it on the C3G section way back when it first started happening, like a year and half ago or more. It did seem to stop for a while, maybe 2 months or so I didn't see it happening, but then it started up again. I just find myself editing most of my post immediately after posting them to delete the extra spaces between paragraphs.

I also faced this issue a few posts ago.

...but I realized it when clicking "Preview Post", before submiting the reply.
Doing this, the extra lines appear in the WYSIWYG editor and I was able to get rid of them. Post submission after that seems to work without any extra line between paragraphs..! :)

...trying it with this post.
Yup, could fix them without re-edition after posting.

Yeah. That would be the biggest perk for me is directly loading images from my phone. You can give positive rep without it. I'm still considering it. Though, it might be a minute because I've been blowing some serious hobby money lately and after said money spending have been out from work most of the week from pneumonia combined with strep throat.:) I could do it now, but the wife would probably kill me at this point.

Well, it's not just an aesthetic thing: if you don't put the blank line, the paragraphs get smushed together. So you don't want that. :)
