Re: The Book of Draftable Vehicle Rules - Final Editing

  • I believe these rules are to replace the current vehicle rules & they aren't specifically just "draftable" vehicle rules. In which case I think the cover should just read "HEROSCAPE VEHICLE RULES".
  • Still on the cover, the yellow flavour text box could be reduced in length.
  • Vehicle Optional Rules: The red heading is more of a introduction to this ruleset. So again it should be more generic, & just say "VEHICLE OPTIONAL RULES".
  • Vehicle Optional Rules: The intro should talk about all ways this ruleset can be used. Maybe something like:
Vehicles are a pervasive sight in any urban setting & now C3G presents a ruleset to add vehicles to your Heroscape battlefield. In essence vehicles in Heroscape are Destructible Objects.

Destructible Objects are an official inclusion in the game, as seen with the Fortress Door and the Destructible Wall. C3G rules for Destructible Objects were established in the C3G Destructible Objects Rules which extended the official ruleset by allowing the ability to throw these objects around the battlefield. Vehicles follow all of the rules of other destructible objects, however, not only can they be destroyed or thrown, but also driven and drafted.
  • Vehicle Optional Rules: Drafting Vehicles
  • Example 1: the card should show a draftable card.
  • Example 1: missing some of the items; Uniqueness, Partial Cover/Full Cover, Driver Space & a simplified Points description. Something like:
Driver Space: The circle space is where the figure is placed and designates who the driver of the vehicle is.
Points: The value of the Vehicle Destructible Object Army Card used when drafting.
  • Drafting Vehicles: A VDO included in a player's army is considered in like any other figure in that player's army....
  • Drafting Vehicles: Dot points should be indented with the dot hanging. Also it's nice to emphasize the crux of the point with bold. Refer to our original set for what I mean.
  • Drafting Vehicles: last dot point needs a space after the dot.
  • Entering Vehicles: Dot points should be indented with the dot hanging. Also it's nice to emphasize the crux of the point with bold.
  • Entering Vehicles: Can we show an example of a figure on a card in the driver space?
  • Entering Vehicles: Can we show an example of a vehicle with a specific entrance/exit marked on it?
  • Example 2: Not sure what's happening here. The text looks all wonky as do the borders around the pictures. There's also a letter peeking out from behind the box.

Sorry that's all I could get to for now. Have to get some sleep.

Cheers

I don’t think anyone has put any effort into a draftable vehicle card template yet so that’s lovably the biggest thing. All the example art was clipped from the old book so if we need to make adjustments we can as I’m sure I have those files.

I’ll let the text guys update the SP and work from there.

Thanks guys.

Thanks for the edits so far, guys! Keep them coming and I'll try to do an update some time in the next couple days.

This is one thing that hasn't been fully decided upon yet. I think that was sort of the intent when Ronin and Tornado and I first started working on these, back when they were both Heroes, but I'm not sure that's been officially decided on. Do we need a Hero ruling one way or the other?

Thanks, japes! Looking forward to seeing the template. We get to put it into practice with the draftable (only?) version of the Sports Car as well.

Having 2 separate sets of rules for how vehicles work (and there are big differences here, outside of adding draftability) seems like a poor decision that will be confusing to the average player. :2cents:

The only difference I see other than adding in the drafting part is that you can only have figures from one team in a vehicle in the old rules and these rules allow conflict in the vehicle.

There's also the addition of things like the driver's seat which I think is a pretty big deal.

That's more an addition to the card. But what I meant was that there are plenty of ADDITIONS but not any CHANGES to the original set other than the one mentioned. So everything just seems like it's building on what we had.

Absolutely but it's in addition to the other rules.

I made a off-hand comment in the discussion thread about the rules being like the official HS army cards with the basic game version on one side & the expert game on the other. Should we not treat these VDO's almost the same? So for every draftable VDO you make, ensure there is a basic version. Of course it's up to the end-user if they want to try to print them double-sided (we could make a PDF that has them joined & you print them out as one, fold & glue together, then cut out the HS Army Card shape).

The sanctum appears to agree with you, so we seem good to move forward with this philosophy.

Edit: That's not a bad idea, A3n. Up to Art whether or not y'all want to take it on, though. Not something I'm going to ask for if it's going to make doing VDOs less appealing for Art. :-)

My main concern is the extra effort and testing needed to get a working Basic version... wouldn't that double the workload of each vehicle?

I believe, and he can correct me if I'm wrong, by basic he means non-draftable, no points version. So it'd just be something you could put on a map as a VDO anyone could access, at which point it'd be more about testing the map to make sure it was balanced, rather than testing the VDO.

Re: The Book of Draftable Vehicle Rules - Final Editing

Fwiw, this was originally meant to be a revision to the existing rules. Or possibly implemented as a second rulebook that was just "draftable DOs".

Of course at that point we were working off the old rules much more closely.

I'd still be inclined to think of this as a replacement, but not hugely opinionated either way.

Not sure what you guys are thinking in terms of release, but I probably wouldn't roll these out yet. I think it might be worthwhile to keep these On Deck for now and knock out a couple more vehicle designs. See if anything new comes up with the rules or we need to make little tweaks for clarity. Then do a release with the new rules and some vehicles down the line. Probably just like 3 or 4 vehicles or something, doesn't need to be a huge release. Adapt the Mole Machine, get the Batmobile going and you're pretty much there.

That was always my endgame/release plan anyway. Figured I'd share since it looked like you guys were close.
