Gencon 2011 Main Event Fantasy Contest

Hey all,

Since the championship has already sold out, I figure we may as well start hashing out who's playing and what their points values should be.

We will have prize support.

To allow for the grade inflation that naturally happens during the pre-pick discussion, I've raised the points allowed from 70 to 80. Other than that, I've kept the rules the same:

Scoring

You will pick a team of 5 'Scapers who are playing in the 2010 GenCon Indianapolis Championship and earn points based upon the performance of all of the members of your team. Points will be earned on both Day 1 and Day 2 of the tournament.
On Day 1 you will earn 10 points for each victory a member of your team has in the tournament and a bonus of 10 points for each member of your team that has a winning record in Day 1.
For example, if your team consists of players A (4W-1L), B (3W-2L), C (2W-3L), D (3W-2L), and E (2W-3L) your team would have a combined record of 14W-11L and would have 3 players with winning records. You would earn 170 points for Day 1 even though it is likely that only player A will have made the cut for Day 2.
The players who make the cut for Day 2 will earn points based when they are eliminated from the tournament upon the following scale:
1st Place 100 pts
2nd Place 80 pts
3rd Place 60 pts
4th Place 45 pts
5th – 8th 25 pts
9th – 16th 15 pts

Rules

Only members who join the site before June 1, 2011 are eligible for prizes.
Rosters must be comprised of 5 people selected from the Master Eligibility list.
You must have a team value of less than or equal to 80 points.
Players point values will fluctuate up and down based upon the popularity of that pick. There is no guarantee that your picks will play in the Championship Tournament.
All PMs will be processed for the day AFTER point values have been adjusted from the previous day. If this causes a roster to become illegal, the person will be notified as soon as possible.
All entries must be submitted via PM by 11:59 Pacific Time, August 1, 2010.
Only one entry is allowed per person.
A confirmation PM will be sent to inform you that your team has been accepted. After the deadline has passed, rosters and player division factors will be released to the general public.
All participants may change their roster ONE time throughout the duration of this contest using the most recent values associated with each pick.
No team is allowed to be exactly the same as another. In the event that identical submissions are made, the first to make that submission will be given that roster and any subsequent submissions will be voided and the individuals making said submissions will be contacted via PM informing them of the voided entry.
If you choose, you may list your army publicly after you have received your confirmation PM.
Ties, although unlikely, will be broken by the locked in total team value where lower is better. If there is still a tie a d20 will be rolled.

The main point of having his up right now is to try to get the players list right, and to discuss/refine/trashtalk the points values for the players.

I'd agree with the changes to wdgrant and Tiny Timmy. Both have excellent tournament skills and were Day 2 participants, as well as regular powerhouses in the local scene. IMHO tom should not be priced the same as Eternalthanos86. One has a looooong history of success and the other a very short one. To be priced the same means one is overpriced or the other is underpriced. I'd hope for the latter. ;-)

I'm a good player, as jschild, Deroche, Brownsfan, and NecroBlade can say. ;)

I think I should be worth 10-15 pts, if I can make the points for myself.

See I'm not sure the point system will work as well this time. There's no way the army I'm bringing is worth 35 points. I'm taking this reverse the whip thing seriously and if I make day 2 with the army I'm bringing I want to own the house, so my day 1 army isn't going to be near as powerful as it could be. The way I'm looking at it is man if I make day 2 the championship is mine, and if I don't that's totally cool with me anyway because there's a dragon dice event I really want to play in Saturday morning.

And I know a few of the Nebraska Scapers have the same mind set.

Also JUSTchris and Raider30 are playing in the main event.

I am planning the same way, Matthias, and I'm sure others are as well. However, the big points are for doing well on day 2, not for going 5-0 and losing in the first round on day 2. So I don't think this really misrepresents things. Some people are going to either go 2-3, or make a deep run on day 2. It's high risk, high reward, and that's fine.

Reverse The Whip normalizes for army strength, but the skills of the players still matter.

At any rate, if nobody thinks anyone is worth 30+ in this format, then we'll find that out and the prices of the most decorated players will go down.

I assume JUSTchris is Chris M, and therefore worth at least 15?
