Strategic Maneuvers/Tips and Tricks Index

Anyone familiar with chess may know a variety of move combinations with names assigned to them, various gambits and the like. What I would like to know is does anyone have any combination of set moves with specific heroscape figures that could be given a name. Or types of strategies that are frequently used and could be named. I'd like to create kind of a play book to help out my fellow 'Scapers. I'd like to have a General Tips and Tricks section as well as a Specific Maneuvers section.

Anyone interested in contributing to the book can pm me and I'll make a new thread for it and make the link. Just put down your title followed by your name, then which units are needed, then the strategic maneuver or tip and trick, then if it is a strategic maneuver post a couple of suggested armies. See links for examples.

Notice: This collection of tips, tricks, and maneuvers was not intended for, nor will it probably be of much use to any experienced 'Scapers

Do we really need all these topics? Didn't you have all those articles in one post? Maybe it was someone else...

Yeah same question here. :ponder:

Here's your previous thread. Why not add to that?

Because it's nice to have an index in case he has more to post and so it doesn't get lost in the threads.

Tai-Pan September 6th, 2007 12:00 AM

Right, what kroz said. Twice. An index will keep things more organized and allow people to comment on the specific things. And thanks to an admin, the index is stickied. I kept having to give the old thread a kick in the butt to keep it afloat.

Thank you very much, whoever came in and stickied and spiffied up this! I'm kinda illiterate when it comes to all the codes and things to change stuff on the internet.

You're welcome.

I also changed the individual thread titles from SMTT {NAME} to Strategic Maneuvers Tips and Tricks: {NAME} simply because I had no idea what SMTT meant until I read the thread. Which means many people skipped the threads because of this confusion.

This is starting to come together.

An entire thread dedicated to nothing more than this:

Organize the Templars into two different attack forces. Use one to charge straight at enemy troops not too far away from the rest of the army, but still seperated. With 8 movement, hit the enemy with the first squad, do not bring in the second. As soon as more squads come too, wipe out 240 points of your enemy using the second squad too charge in and gain the attack bonus. Then charge in again with the first squad. Repeat until victorious.

Really the above should be in the Book of...

Sorry, I am not getting it; between the books and these countless strategic threads, the units forum seems a bit cluttered.

We have over 130 units and countless upon countless tactics and strategies and combos; I can't see having a thread for every tactic in the game. (as if that is even possible)

but...whatevers

rdhight September 8th, 2007 09:40 PM

People really seem to disdain putting new content in the Books lately. Every unit strategy review, how-do-I-kill, and "strategic move" has to be its own thread. We're going to end up with 3-4 perma-threads per unit and half the front page taken up with the sticky indexes.

Taeblewalker September 9th, 2007 01:30 AM

Somehow, this all just seems cleaner. The stickies make it easy to sort. The Books, while nice in that they have the basic info, also have their ideas posted in no particular order. Threads like this one take the best of those ideas and formalize them in a nifty format.

Tai-Pan September 9th, 2007 02:57 AM

Thanks for the support Taeblewalker.

If you're not incredibly familiar with all of the books, then it's hard to find a specific piece of information. I mean, think about it. You are a new 'Scaper and you find this site just after getting your master set and whatever expansions. You're looking for something to help you play against your friend, who's been playing for a while and schooled you at your last game. You figure you should go to the Official Units section, but then what? How are you supposed to know that you should click on the Books to see everything? And even then, are you supposed to read through all of the books for every character you have? My goal is to make something very accessible and easy to use. That's why I have Tips and Tricks and then Maneuvers organized alphabetically and by unit. I'm still refining it, so it's not perfect, and being human, it never will be. But please don't fill the threads up with how worthless the thread is just because you can think of better uses for them. If you want to see some interesting maneuvers, go read Swog Spearhead or Orc Raiders.
