PS you should know I would LOVE for Gen Con to happen as schd and as safely as possible

Well this is going to be Roger Penske's billions vs the political will of The Mayor of Indy. Roger just bought the track and he is more worried about his legacy. Will be interesting to see how this plays out as well as the confusion that UniGov will cause.

Yeah. If there is a GenCon this year, we are in the thick of when organizers would be prepping. If it happens, it won’t be the same this year. Heck, the GC offices are themselves probably more or less shut down.

I was optimistic early on, but the fact that cancelling MLB this year is on the table doesn't fill me with hope for something like Gencon. The path to it staying open is probably going to be something like we hit the peak very soon and new hospitalizations start decreasing, we get good antivirals/testing or something similar up and running in the not too distant future and Gencon enacts some rules to mitigate those things. Thus far, I'm not optimistic about those projections.

These things would be easier to assess if the response was being coordinated on a national level. The way things are now, it is impossible to guess what will happen from one day to the next. Only the virus knows, and we don’t know who is prepared, or how.

I mean politics has consequences on things like Gencon. Or else we wouldn't have politics or need to care about them.

It is pretty hard to see the future here. At the very least it doesn't seem to be getting exponentially worse at the moment but I think that's because so many people are staying at home more. Gencon is maybe one of the worst possible places for post-quarantine large gathering: all inside, open 24/7, very air-conditioned, lots of moving around. I'm hoping things will be good enough in 3 and a half months for Gencon to happen but not confident.
