Kablam is the best classic Nickelodeon cartoon by the way. Ren and Stimpy is also an acceptable answer. Courage pulls off the dark children's cartoon much better. And while we're at it, Ed, Edd, and Eddy wasn't good either. It looked like crap and it was annoying to watch because it's just them getting cuckolded everytime, and the only likable character is the smart one, everyone else is either greedy, retarded, a douche, or some annoying tattletale, or rapist trailer park women. |

Adventure Time is one of the smartest kids shows on television. I have watched some of Regular Show and it isn't bad but it just doesn't grab me (also I think it might be because Rigby annoys the crud out of me and Mordecai isn't too much better). They're infinitely smarter than most of kids programming on today. (Really with Avatar finished the only solid kids shows left I can think of are both Disney products in Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls) Can't speak to classic Nick since I've only seen a little bit of it. Ed, Edd, and Eddy was all right. I never quite enjoyed it but when it was on I didn't actively hate it like some shows I've seen (*cough* Spongebob *cough* Teen Titans Go! *cough*). ~Dysole, who has watched a surprising amount of programming aimed at children despite being in his mid 20s |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Just watched the last quarter of Legend of Korra Book 4 on nick.com. A fine finish for a whole lot of characters, one going back to the original Avatar series. The creators have signed with another company for future projects, and people are expecting great things from them.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Yeah, I can't watch that part where Finn goes into the fetal position, starts crying, and asks, "Why can't I just love a girl?". I fell in love with my best friend and I was making plans to go see her. She told me she had breast cancer and it wrecked me, last winter it was so cold that my tears turned to slush on my face while doing my mail route. She was actually addicted to heroin and didn't want me to see her like that. At the time I wasn't mad at her because heroin addiction isn't much different than cancer.
Eventually a few months after she got out of jail she asked me why the Netflix account I shared with her was out. I said because I don't watch Netflix anymore. She complained again and I said, " Why don't you get your boyfriend to get you Netflix?" and then we got in a fight. After ignoring her for a few weeks or months we started talking again. But she doesn't get that she can't say things like, "I love you (best friend)", or "I want to grow old with you" if she wants me to stop viewing her as a potential partner. So now I just go around assuming I'll never find anyone as good as her, and that since I'll never have her I'll never be happy. I know that sounds stupid given how miserable she made my past year, but the reason why I couldn't just stop caring about her is because every moment I was with her was so good and perfect, the best times of my life. |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Saw Gallavant, a medieval comedy satire on Ch. 7 last night. They played the first two half hour episodes; there will be more. It was pretty silly, but had a few good moments. They also sang!
Way back in the Sixties, in the heyday of Broadway musical comedies, a musical comedy TV series was attempted, with a couple of new songs each episode! It was a contemporary story of two people falling in love and getting married. The star was Robert Morse, who had played the lead in 1961's How To Be Successful In Business Without Really Trying --both the play and the movie--one of the big shows of that time. The TV show didn't stay on very long, but it was one of the first (if not the first) noble attempts at an early 'media crossover,' which today is so commonplace. Wikipedia tells me it was called That's Life, and was aired in 1968. (Morse has also appeared more recently in Mad Men.) |

I think the episode with Skip's backstory is the best episode I've seen. Still have a hard time liking Mordecai and Rigby which I think hurts the show for me. Like I said earlier, not bad, not my flavor.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
This is the week the new season starts for some of my favorites (no spoilers) and etc.:
Gotham: (Fox) Excellent! This for the show I originally wasn't going to watch and didn't want to like. Don't miss Morena Baccarin (from Firefly), even though her face is in the shadows of Arkham most of the time. Sleepy Hollow: (Fox) Disappointing--the weaknesses of this generally good show are now glaring. This reset after the resolution of the first conflict didn't work for me. I may not follow it any more. Agent Carter: (ABC) Excellent! Crossovers from the Marvel movies continue. I love period pieces. Younger folks can find out how much fun sexism was in the late 1940s. (I still remember it from the late 50s and early 60s). The prequel to Agents of SHIELD, in its time slot; 2 hours. The regular time slot will be 9 PM in 7 parts total. The Ant Man teaser is at the end of the Part II, which is listed separately On Demand. The Anime Network (Time Warner Cable System Channel 1003): Don't miss an award winning movie by Studio Ghibli: Children Who Chase Voices From Deep Underground. Always check the running times; this separates the regular TV episodes from movie and other specials. (Edit) Forever (ABC) "The Wolves of Deep Brooklyn" Solid--the values of friendship in Brooklyn versus those of money in Manhattan. Yo! *Coming Soon: Final Chas favorites Castle (ABC) and The Flash (WB). |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
I had a similar reaction watching Sleepy Hollow this week. I really enjoyed season 1 quite a bit but so far season 2 has not been as entertaining. The direction the show has gone in with regards to Katrina has not been good at all. I was initially excited about the prospects of adding a witch to their evil fighting team but the execution has been completely botched to a point where I don't like the character at all.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Was able to finally get to see both the pilot 2 hour episode and this past Tuesday's episode of Agent Carter. I absolutely love it.
|
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Enjoyed the latest episode of Forever. Its another show I didn't want to like, but was drawn in by Ioan Griffudd (who I've liked every since the TV Hornblower) and Judd Hirsh (who I've seen live on stage here in NYC); who are wonderful. But its taken them longer to build the relationship between the male and female leads, which is finally heating up. Its not as much fun as Castle, but the immortality angle allows them to do some interesting things--less 'historical' and more personal--and the Evil Immortal is an interesting factor.
For a 1960s show with a younger father and older son, look up The Second Hundred Years. Monte Markham is frozen in a glacier during the Alaska Goldrush, revived in modern times, and goes to live with his son ('Larry Tate' from Bewitched). He doesn't have a social security card, but a more vibrant, earthy personality than us moderns. It only lasted one season, but I enjoyed it, as they got to satirize modern society a bit. |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Last night:
MASH(1979): Episode where a baby is left for the doctors. WKRP(1979): Episode where a baby is left for Doctor Fever. Doctor Who(1976) Fourth Doctor(Tom Baker): These have been fun. One thing I did not remember about the 4th Doctor is his combat skills. I remember the third Doctor being quite skilled but the 4th is no slouch. In the episode last night he took on three armed 'knights' in a sword fight and won. The Goldbergs(2015): Incredible episode. I did not get hooked by this show but I do enjoy it as it is pretty much a Wonder Years of my childhood or at least that period of time. Last night focused on The Transformers: The Movie(1986). For those who have never seen it
Spoiler Alert!
Nova(PBS): Special on the Large Hadron Collider and the search for the Higgs-Boson particle. Fascinating research and the sure scale of the machine is incredible. |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
We have two shows on the go at the moment: Doc Martin and Blacklist. Very different.
Doc Martin is old-fashioned British early-Sunday-evening fare. Grumpy London surgeon (Martin Clunes, voice of Kipper the Dog is, I think, his biggest US presence, although Men Behaving Badly is what I always associate him with) suddenly develops a fear of blood and moves to picturesque village with quirky locals to be a GP. We're just starting the fourth season. The first two were great, the third clunked a bit, and a couple of episodes in the fourth is looking a bit better. Blacklist is proper hardhitting torture-justifying US crime-porn. But with James Spader, who is sufficiently lovely to make it all worth watching. We're about five episodes in. I recommend both. |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
I did not know that Doc Martin had a blood aversion. I have caught a few episodes in pieces.
Blacklist was one that I thought was going to be really dumb and it impressed me from the beginning. Spader is incredible. |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
I love Doc Martin. I'm an episode or two into the final season.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
12 Monkeys on Syfy......wow call me impressed. When they first said the main characters name was James Cole I was concerned I wouldn't like it, since they were clearly going to throw out everything in the movie and start all over again, but then they pulled the first watch trick and I was hooked on this re-imagination of the story. The second watch trick was even more spectacular. Really happy about how they treated the Dr. too. She stops James cold and demands to have some answers rather then just blindly following along and she actually started researching Frost on her own instead of doing nothing. They also allowed James to complete his mission in the first episode instead of dragging it out. I'll definitely be watching every week.

Yup, SyFy just premiered the first episode this past week. Big fan of the movie so I had to at least check it out and see if it was any good. Love my DVR, lets me just record shows like this and check them out on my own schedule.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Watched the Sons of Liberty mini-series on History this week and thought it was pretty darn good. The History channel has gotten really good at bringing some aspects of history to life and presenting a history lesson in an interesting way. Makes me interested in now watching the show about Texas Independence (taking place after the Alamo, I've seen enough Alamo stuff) they were advertising for. Also pretty excited for the return of Vikings.
|
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Sons of Liberty was gritty and interesting, which also seems to mean 'realistic' these days. I hope it will be an eye opener for those less acquainted with history.
Agent Carter is soaring to new heights. If I was an actor, I'd love the way Joss treats his "Repertory Company," giving new roles to those who work for him previously. |

The Walking Dead & Better Call Saul.
Oh, and 12 Monkeys continues to be excellent. Anyone who liked the movie or likes time travel story lines should be watching it. |

The Flash, Agent Carter, Arrow, and Twelve Monkeys have been on the watchlist of late.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
This week on TV for me (no spoilers) was good:
Monday Gotham: Expanding the roll of Morena Baccaran (Firefly) and introducing The Joker. Set in a circus where the family you'd expect to see appears. Castle: The second of a two parter that resolves an old plot line. Tuesday Flash: The enjoyment continues, with new reveals. Tom Kavanaugh as Dr. Wells continues to be amazing and mysterious, both menacing and reassuring at the same time. "I love that he's always up to something" said the actor in an earlier sound bite. Agent Carter: This outstanding show hits a new peak, if that is possible, and without any metahumans. Season finale coming up next week! New On DVD: Season Four of Game of Thrones, which I haven't seen yet, just went on sale yesterday. Watched the extras, which summarized the previous Season Three, introduced the new locations in the tale, and commented on "The Role of Bastards." Also: Anime On Demand Don't miss Grave of the Fireflies, one of the best Japanese anime ever made, a historical story of children starving at the end of World War II as the society teeters on complete collapse. Not for child audiences. Coming Up: Vikings Season Three on History (Channel) tomorrow Thursday Feb. 19 . Its the best fictional show on Vikings ever made, period, and more historical than most. Agents of Shield returns Tues. March 3. |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
I'm two episodes behind as of last night but my family and I are really enjoying The Flash.
|
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Still have to catch up on Monday's Gotham and Tuesday's Flash, but did manage to watch Agent Carter last night. Man, that's such an awesome show, too bad it got such a short season.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Leonard Nimoy TV episodes on ME TV tonight! Columbo, Twilight Zone, Man From U.N.C.L.E. (with Shatner), Mission Impossible and Get Smart. He was still playing villains, except for MI, which was later. The Columbo is particulary good, as he plays the main villain and has lots of screen time!

Watched Gotham, the one called Everyone's Got a Cobblepot, or something like that. I may still be an episode behind.
Starting to lose interest. Kind of tired of the Enigma routine, same with Fish. Also kind of getting tired of the era confusion. Crappy old tv's, but cell phones. Old/new mis-mash is growing kind of meh for me. |
Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Hahma,
I agree about Gotham. For me it was them redoing Joker, whose origin and background to me is too well established for a complete redo. And the relationship between Selena and Bruce is a bit sadomasochistic for kids--but maybe I'm just too old school. A lot of these shows have too much of a Goth sensibility for me. I prefer Flash, (as opposed to Arrow) the former bieng dark in its own way, but with a more positive message and hero. And hey, I'm the guy who has Birds of Prey on disk, and turned others onto the old Smallville. |

Kolakoski,
1. Then you should have posted it in the movie thread (even if you watched it on TV). 2. What did you think of it? 3. Would you change the C3G card any, based on your now greater understanding of the character? If so, this is why you should consider allowing custom cards in our games... |
