slot-cars and R/C car chatter
 

Back on HQ in some of the pics i posted of fields etc, people noticed a race track in the back ground. This is a 1/32 scale slot-car track. It is a fun (but expensive) investment for those who like "alone time" or, for me, father-son bonding (since my dad doesn't like HS). Sets com ready-to-run, and sell for anywhere between 120-300 dollars (see what i mean by expnsive?) but IMO it is well worth it. The cars a based off of actual models (my fave: The Dodge Viper GTS/R) and can be purchased separately for between 40-50 bucks. They (Scalextric) also has many different thing to go with the track, such as a Race Management System (RMS) that allows you to hook the track to a computer and maintain a race by telling the car when to pit, etc. They just introduced something that allows up to 6 cars to run on a single lane and realistic overtaking, just to add to the realism of racing. One of my favorite products: The pace car. It's a robot car that learns the course and races against you if you don't have anyone else to race against.

we have no pics of the track it's self, but there are pictures. i have to pull them from the other computer, which is currently infected with a virus of some sort so it's difficult. you can check out the website here:

Wow K/H, that sounds like a whole lotta fun. When I was younger we had TCR - Total Control Racing. Slotless slot cars that could pass each other. I was lucky enough to get a racing truck set. The semi trucks could pass each other or the pace truck.

I will definately take pics of the layout as soon as we get a loyout up to take pics of. We moved and don't have a garage yet (it needs a roof. we have walls and windows, but no roof!)

nope. everything come ready to run. They're just expensive

Do any of the older folks remember the multi-car slot tracks in old R/C and electronics stores from back in the day? There were a couple here in my neck of the woods where you show up with your car, throw it on the track and race whoever was there. It used to be cool to watch, though I never bought a car and got into it.

No these were on a track just like the slotted tracks, but the sides were high to keep the cars on the track.

Total Control Racing (TCR) was a toy brand from Ideal which debuted in the late 1970s, similar to slot car sets, with approximately HO scale cars (and smaller scale semi-trailer trucks) that operated on a slotless track.

The plastic track contained lanes of three metal tracks about 2 mm (0.08 inch) wide, which made contact with three brass pads on the underside of the cars, providing power. The plastic track had two such lanes, and cars could change lanes with the press of a button on the controller. TCR sets came with "jam cars", a slow moving drone which both racers had to avoid crashing into.
