The Book of Wasp

The figure used for this unit is a Heroclix figure from the Avengers set.
Its model number and name are #028 / Wasp.

Character Bio- "Janet Van Dyne was born in Cresskill, New Jersey. She was initially a shallow, self-centered, flighty heiress and debutante, daughter of wealthy scientist Vernon Van Dyne. During an experiment, however, an alien monster was unleashed from an alternate dimension and Dr. Van Dyne was killed. Her father's associate, Dr. Henry 'Hank' Pym, had created a substance called 'Pym particles,' which allowed the user to grow or shrink in size, and had become the superhero Ant-Man. When Janet's father died, she convinced Pym to help her. He gave her a supply of "Pym particles" and subjected her to a biochemical procedure which granted her the ability, upon shrinking, to grow wings and fire blasts of energy, which she called her "wasp's stings." As Ant-Man and The Wasp, they defeated the monster, sent it to its own dimension, and had several more adventures together," (wikipedia.com)

  • Tiny figures are particularly hard to squash; not only are they powerful defensively, but they are immune to most powers that specify size. Be sure to check what figures a special power effects.
  • Tiny Stealth allows Wasp to avoid engagements with most figures, but she is vulnerable to - and can counter - other Tiny figures. Current Tiny figures include: Ant-Man, Atom, Fire Ant Swarm, Killer Bee, and Wasp.

Re: The Book of Wasp - Design Phase

NAME = WASP
SECRET IDENTITY = JANET VAN DYNE

SPECIES = MUTATE
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = ADVENTURER
PERSONALITY = TENACIOUS

SIZE/HEIGHT = TINY 2

LIFE = 1

MOVE = 5
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 1
DEFENSE = 4

POINTS = 50

WASP STING SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 2. Attack 1.
Instead of moving and attacking normally with Wasp, you may move Wasp up to 4 spaces. Wasp can attack up to 2 times with this special attack at any point before, during, or after this move as long as Wasp is on a space where she could end her movement. When Wasp attacks a figure that is not a destructible object with this special attack, that figure cannot roll defense dice.

TINY STEALTH
Wasp is never in clear sight of non-adjacent enemy figures and she only takes leaving engagement attacks from tiny figures.

DARING DECOY
Figures engaged with Wasp can only attack figures that have the Daring Decoy special power.

FLYING

MICROSCOPIC STEALTH
Wasp cannot be targeted by non-adjacent figure and does not take any leaving engagement attacks from any figure that is not Tiny.

DARING DECOY
An opponent's figure adjacent to Wasp cannot attack any figure you control that does not have the Daring Decoy special power.

FLYING

Very nice!

What about avoidig the double negatives:

MICROSCOPIC STEALTH
Wasp cannot be targeted by opponents' non-adjacent figures for any attacks or any special powers that require clear sight and only takes leaving engagement attacks from Tiny figures.

Parallel language to Invisible Woman, et al.

DARING DECOY
If an opponent's figure that is adjacent to Wasp attacks with a normal or special attack, it can only attack a figure with the Daring Decoy special power.

This last one is patterned off of Tandros Kreel.

Great write up Hahma. :up:

I am very confident that her cost is gonna come WAY down. Maybe like a 50 point unit.

As an adventurer, she is gonna be SICK though with the Fan 4. She forces you to attack her, as Mr Fan holds you down, and Invisible Woman boosts Wasps defense to 11.... If she stays an Adventurer, her point cost may have to be 80.

Re: The Book of Wasp - Design Phase

I like her as an Adventurer. I could see her coming in at 70 based on all of this.
I like Sir G's wording tweaks ... Microscopic Stealth is also on Ant-Man's card, so we'll have to make sure whatever wording changes we agree to make on one we agree to make on both.

HAPPY HAPPY!
When Wasp, Ant Man and Hulk are finished, thereŽll be C3G versions of all of the original Avengers, and you know what?
That makes me HAPPY HAPPY! :D

Yep, that's what the Avengers Assemble booster is all about! And once I finish one of my current LDs (and hopefully Hulk, Ant Man, and Wasp are wrapped up) Captain America is going to be the next one I start!

Re: The Book of Wasp - Design Phase

I love this write up now. :up: There is one thing that I had thought of that could be added to this, & that is to make the WSSA like Kumiko's Ninjitsu Barrage special attack in that she can attack at any point before during or after moving so:

This of course is not a must but I thought it would be nice & thematic for her to be zipping around & zapping at the same time.

Great design either way Hahma.

Cheers

Re: The Book of Wasp - Design Phase

Hmm ... I do like the idea of her zipping and zapping. That would probably settle her in around 80, though, but I think I could live with that.

Re: The Book of Wasp - Design Phase

Should Wasp Sting be Attack 2? I mean it is substantially stronger than her normal attack. For the two to be the same strength is kinda a theme-break for me.

Re: The Book of Wasp - Design Phase

Maybe attack 2 is a good idea, I just don't want her cost to go up too high. :pray:

The Special Attack idea is great IMO. That will give 2 out of the 5 original Avengers a Special Attack. :up:

I think the fact that:

a) it's ranged

b) she can attack with it twice

c) the defending figure can't roll defense

and potentially, if we go with A3n's change

d) she can move between attacks

then even at 1 die, her special attack is already way more powerful than her normal attack.
