C3G Procedures

As C3G grows, I thought it would be nice to have all the procedures of C3G in one thread. Please do not post in this thread. If you want to see something added here, please post in the Welcome to C3G thread.

C3G GOALS

1) To create a collection of comic book style Heroscape custom designs that are internally compatible.

2) For each custom design to accurately reflect the selected theme and to maintain a comic book style and thematic feel to its design.

3) To have each custom design be a collaborative effort from our C3G members while encouraging support, good ideas, and productive effort from the entire Heroscapers.com community.

4) To maintain the position of at least 4 and no more than 8 core members (hereby referred to as "Heroes") who are enthusiastic, well respected, and active Heroscapers.com members.

______________________________________________________________

C3G RULES

1) For any decision to be finalized, a proposal must be submitted and voted on by the C3G Heroes. Proposals may only be posted by a Hero or C3G Legend in a C3G Voting Thread.

2) A vote consists of a Hero posting yea, nay, abstain or hold in the thread where a proposal was made. Not voting is counted as an abstention. All proposals are open for a minimum of 48 hours or until all Heroes have voted. If all Heroes have not voted in 48 hours, tag those Heroes and they have an additional 48 hours to vote. One Hold vote can be used once per proposal to get an additional 72 hours on the clock for additional consideration, if a Hero does not update their hold vote before the total time elapses (5 days from the start of the proposal with a Hold), then that vote counts as an Abstain. A vote cannot be called if less than half the Heroes have voted for or against the proposal. When a vote is called, count the Yeas and the Nays; the majority wins. Any proposal in a voting hall that is not linked in the OP of that voting hall within 24 hours of being proposed is invalid. Any proposal not called within 1 week of being proposed is considered inactive and another proposal can be made in the thread, which would withdraw the previous proposal. If action is not taken on the proposal within 2 weeks of the vote being called, the resolution is considered invalid and it does not apply.

3) If there is a split decision on a proposal, then the C3G Sidekicks will be allowed to vote. Sidekick voting will remain open for 24 hours or until all Sidekicks have voted, whichever comes first. If the decision is still split after the Sidekicks' vote, then voting will be opened to Legends. The first Legend to post their vote will have the deciding vote.

Re: C3G Procedures

Ally Design Process:

Brainstorming Phase: Unofficial phase that happens in the Public Design Post thread where designs are tweaked and posted to get them a nomination in the Selection Phase.

Selection Phase: Occurs in the C3G Public Design Nomination thread, where we nominate any designs from the Public Design Post and then vote on what the next public design will be.

Design Phase: Once the previous design is released, the next LD decided upon in the Selection Phase may start a Book for their design(s) and immediately secure a second post to keep the design in. Once the thread is started be sure to post a link to it in the Welcome to C3G thread and the C3G Promotions Department thread and then send a PM with a link to the new thread to the C3G Heroes. The first official phase an Ally design enters, this is where most of the design kinks will be worked out. The Thread Title should be The Book of xxxxx(Design Phase)
Remember: For the first 48 hours you may not alter the design in the SP for any reason. You can make notes of suggested changes in the second post below the design so they don't get lost, but you are not allowed to alter the design.

Initial Playtesting Phase: This is during the Design Phase and must be voted on to move to this phase. First make the following proposal in bold: I propose a vote for Initial Playtesting. Change the Thread Title to The Book of xxxxx(Vote for Initial Playtest). Only a C3G Hero may run the Initial Playtest. 24 hours must pass before a proposal for the playtesting phase can occur. Make the following proposal in bold:I propose a vote for Public Playtesting. Change the Thread Title to The Book of xxxxx(Vote for Public Playtesting).

Playtesting Phase: Now the public gets a chance to officially test the unit. Change the Thread Title to The Book of xxxxx(Playtesting Phase). At least two playtesters are needed per unit. Once the tests have been turned in, the Lead Designer may propose to send the design to Final Editing. Make the following proposal in bold: I propose a vote for Final Editing. Change the Thread Title to The Book of xxxxx(Vote for Final Editing).

Final Editing Phase: Wording on all powers is fine tuned and the cards are created. Change the Thread Title to The Book of xxxxx(Final Editing).Once the cards are finished and the first post of the Book of thread is cleaned up, the Lead Designer can propose to release the design. Make the following proposal in bold: I propose a vote for Release. Change the Thread Title to The Book of xxxxx(Vote for Release).

Release: A unanimous vote from the Heroes is needed to release the design and the process restarts at the Design Phase with a design chosen by the group in the Selection Phase.

Re: C3G Procedures

The C3G heroes have an important announcement!

Due to the recent surge of interest in designs that aren't in line with our original theme and goals, the heroes have had a lengthy discussion about the topic. Since there is so much ground to cover in this area, we decided to vote individually on some "hot topics" that have been discussed by various people. That way, there should be no question about what can be designed or not. If there is ever a design not covered by this vote, then bring it up to the heroes, and we'll vote on any individual, specific character. :)

The results (Drumroll...)

ALLOWED DESIGNS
Alien
Conan
GI Joe
He-Man
Lara Croft
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen*
Lone Ranger
Mortal Kombat
Predator
Red Sonja
Street Fighter
Terminator
TMNT
Transformers

*Only if acceptable mini photos and comic art are furnished prior to nomination.

NOT ALLOWED
Star Wars
Halo
Assassin's Creed

For those not allowed, I think Star Wars, Halo, and Assassin's Creed anybody could understand why we're hesitant about them. Don't let this vote discourage you from making your own customs of these guys, though! :)

So again, check this list if you want to make a non-Marvel/DC/Indy superhero design, and if it's not on here, bring it up to the heroes (In public or through PM is fine), and we'll vote then let you know!

Tips And Suggestions When Designing For C3G

First off, these are not the rules for designing (those can be found here), these are just some helpful tips on making the whole process a smoother one. None of these need to be followed, but doing so should make things easier on everyone involved.

Let's start with the design process. So you've got a character you want to design and you've got some ideas you feel are good, what should be your first step?
  • Make sure the character hasn't already been drafted. If you do post a design for a character that has been drafted, the Heroes will let you know, but it's a good idea to check first. The first place to check is the Unreleased Figures list. If the character you want to design is listed there, it's already being worked on. If it isn't listed there, feel free to ask in the Public Design Thread and the Heroes will let you know.
  • Do your research. As mush as you may know the character you're designing, comics have a long and varied history, so it's best to spend some time reading up. Wikipedia and Comicvine are great places to check, as are the respective wikis for the big two comic publishers, Marvel and DC. A few minutes on these sites can help you settle power levels, and maybe even spark a few ideas!
  • Make sure your design is the most iconic for that version of the character. In other words, make sure your design plays like the character. Sure, the two issue storyline where Character X was gifted a magical amulet and took down Superman may well be awesome, but if that goes against the normal power levels of the character, those stories are best ignored.
  • Keep your post orderly. The cleaner and more polished your design post is, the more likely people are to comment and vote on it. Your post can be formatted any way you want, but my favorite is the one listed in this post.
  • Post a picture with your design. This one is completely personal opinion, and certainly doesn't have to be followed. Posting a picture with a design will grab more people's attention, and can often interest them more in the design. Google Image Search and Comicvine's galleries are the best places to check.
Running an LD is one of the most rewarding parts of being a C3G Ally or Sidekick, but it's also very challenging. Follow these tips to keep everything running smoothly.
  • Take charge. You know the character and what you want out of the design, keep things running in that direction. You'll often have ideas and opinions coming at you from all directions, keep your original design in mind and let everyone know what you want. But always remember to...
  • Listen to the Heroes This is probably the most important one, these guys have the most experience and knowledge, listen to what they say. This doesn't mean you have to blindly follow everything they say, but they've been doing this for a while, you can trust them on matters of balance and gameplay.
  • Be courteous. You are going to hear a lot of ideas during the process, some of them will be great, and some of them will be...not so great. It's important to take all ideas into consideration and let everyone know they are being heard. If an idea does not fit with your vision, just calmly explain your stance. This will most likely be enough, and you can move forward from there.
  • Keep in mind that you are a part of the whole. You have been selected to represent the groups interests, for the duration of the design you are the group's face to the public, act accordingly. Remember that this isn't your customs thread, it's a C3G thread. The design most likely turn out differently than you had originally pictured, but this will make it more balanced and a better design.
  • Try not to be impatient. This is the hardest one. It's not easy to wait for votes or playtest results, but remember that everyone else has lives outside of 'Scape as well, and the Heroes are busy bringing us more great C3G units. 'Bumping' for votes is frowned upon, and will likely only anger the Heroes or make them feel bad, neither of which is desirable. If a vote is nearing its deadline (say, 10 or 12 hours remaining), a post saying 'Down to _____(whichever Heroes have yet to vote)' is fine, but more than one is not necessary.
  • Don't be afraid to utilize a poll. As the LD, you should try to make any necessary decisions yourself, but there will be times when opinion is split between two or more choices. In these cases, a poll is the best way to keep the design moving.
  • Stay on top of things. This is an easy one, but can be very tricky for a first time LD. Remember to do things like: keep the thread title updated, keep the SP up to date (after the first 48 hours are up, of course), and link all the playtests in the OP, as well as the cards and any other contributions.
  • Keep chatter to a minimum. The occasional tangent is fine -this should be fun after all- but if an off-topic discussion begins to derail the thread, it might be time to step in and kindly ask everyone to take the chatting to other, more appropriate threads.
  • Find suitable pictures. The cards will require both comic art and a background image, it'll make it easier on the Art team if you find some yourself. As before, Google Image Search and the Comicvine gallery for your character are your best bets. Remember to select large enough pictures, 600x800 is a good minimum but the bigger the better. When Googling, on the left hand side of the page is a 'Larger Than', select that to get the results you're looking for. The card will also need a miniature photo, if no one volunteers, you'll need to ask for some. Or, if you have the mini and a camera, try taking some yourself!
  • Write your own bio. It's really not hard, and it looks better than taking one from somewhere else. Again, Comicvine and Wikipedia are great places for research on the character.
  • Keep everyone informed. Let us know when you're going to be busy for a significant period of time. A busy day or two is no problem -we all have to deal with Real Life- but if you are going to be away for more than 2 days, it's best to let everyone know and, if need be, appoint a Proxy LD in the interest of keeping the design moving. And finally...
  • Have fun! LDing can be a challenging experience, but it should also be an enjoyable one. Keep things lighthearted and remember: you are getting to be a part of the C3G process and create an awesome design that many people will be able to enjoy. What's more fun than that?

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: She had lots of chances to spread pixie dust, and she avoided death once by getting everybody to clap. She flew away a lot and she was able to spread her pixie dust to the Mermaids, but it wasn't enough to get away from the Crocodile and the Ghosts of Neverland.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: She was a lot of fun.

C3G GOALS

1) To have a collection of Comic Book style Heroscape Custom Designs that are 100% compatible with each other and all of the official Heroscape License.

2) For each custom design to accurately reflect the selected theme and to maintain a comic book style and thematic feel to its design.

3) To have each Custom Design be a collaborative effort from our C3G members while encouraging support, good ideas, and productive effort from the entire Heroscapers.com community.

4) Maintain the position of at least 4 and no more than 8 core members (hereby referred to as "Heroes") who are enthusiastic, well respected, and active Heroscapers.com members.

______________________________________________________________

C3G RULES

1) For any decision to be finalized a Proposition must be submitted in a C3G Voting thread or in a Design's own thread. Only C3G Heros are allowed to make a proposition.

2) Each Proposition will have 2 days to achieve a majority vote. A Proposition will stay active for 2 days or until all Heroes have voted, then the proposition will be closed. Once a proposition is closed, the votes will be tallied. If there are not at least 4 votes in favor of passing the proposition, the proposition fails and the votes will not be tallied. A vote consists of a C3G Hero member posting yes or no in a C3G Voting thread or individual design thread. If you do not vote, your vote will not be counted (obviously).

3) If there is a split decision on a Proposition, then a PM will be sent to the Sidekicks concerning the split decision. The first C3G Sidekick to respond to the PM with their vote, will have the deciding vote. If a majority vote could not be achieved within 2 days of the initial tallying, the Proposition will be canceled.

4) For a C3G Hero to design a custom, they must simply follow the guide lines laid down HERE.
Spoiler Alert!
For a C3G Ally to create a Design, they must meet the requirements listed in this thread, then they must submit their top 5 choices to work on in the same thread. The Heroes will then discuss the choice and decide if the Ally can work on one of the 5 choices, or if a new list should be made. Then the Ally will start a public Design Thread in which they will follow the same process as listed in the above spoiler tag. However, Ally designs will be released immediately in the Release Phase as a C3G Exclusive.

5) If a change to a Design is requested by a C3G Hero, it is the Creator/Designer's job to make those corrections. The Creator/Designer may choose to not make the requested change. If the Creator/Designer decides to not make the requested change, their decision can only be overruled by a Majority vote from the C3G Heroes.

6) No one will ever post a picture of their own or someones custom design in any C3G thread. If a member wishes to share or reference another design, they may do so by simply posting a link or using the spoiler tags.

This process should be fun and structured, if at any time there is a rule that is hindering the process, the group may simply bypass the rule with a unanimous vote for the sake of progress only.

We should update this post to note that each vote in the process is called either when all Heroes have voted or 48 hours has passed. This is the universal standard for C3G votes. We need to make it clearer to LDs.

Wanted to throw a template for glyph books in here, since the formatting for the glyph threads is a little shaky, especially for the older ones.

Good thinking! I noticed the lack of consistency recently when I had to create a couple new glyph threads. Hopefully people will start using this template.
