I never heard of this RPG. is it like DnD?

I've only played the old AD&D when it was still published by TSR, but I've heard a ton of people say that LoTR plays and looks a lot like D20 D&D, only it's a D6 system.
Basically, actions are resolved by rolling 2d6 + skill rank + any misc. modifiers and comparing the result against a target number to determine the level of success or failure.
