The Book of Enchantress (Amora)

The Book of Enchantress (Amora)

The figure used for this unit is a Heroclix figure from the Hammer of Thor set.
Its model number and name are #011/Enchantress.

Character Bio - "The Enchantress' parentage is unknown, though it is known she was born in Asgard and has a sister by the name of Lorelei. Amora began learning magic as an apprentice of Karnilla, Queen of the Norns but was eventually banished. She continued learning magic on her own, notably by seducing others well versed in magic and learning their secrets. She is sent by Odin to eliminate Thor's human love interest, whom Odin sees as a distraction. When she fails in this task, the Enchantress is exiled to Earth by Odin where she joins the Masters of Evil. As a member of the Masters of Evil, the Enchantress repeatedly faced the Avengers. Enchantress is especially affronted by the mortal Scarlet Witch’s attempts to subvert her divine spells, though she is occasionally genuinely challenged by Scarlet Witch's mutant gifts." (Wikipedia, 2012)

-Rulings and Clarifications-
  • Q - If Enchantress Soul Swaps a figure with multiple attacks or that has a power that says "after attacking" during its turn, can that figure continue its turn after being Soul Swapped?
A - No. You no longer control the figure once its Soul Swapped, therefore its turn is immediately ended.
  • Q - If Enchantress has Soul Swapped a figure with an opponent's figure and Enchantress is destroyed, when you swap the figures back, do you remove the OMs from their cards just like when they are initially swapped?
A - When figures are returned, yes, they follow the same swapping procedure.

-Strategy, Tactics and Tips-
  • Enchantment is an extremely powerful ability and a build containing Enchantress should be built around leveraging this power. The units that benefit most from Enchantment are ones that either can get multiple normal attacks or double skulls (Wolverine, Punisher, Merlyn, Mr. Zsasz, etc), or figures that have special powers that triggers if they deliver a wound or roll enough skulls (MODOK, Black Canary, Red Skull, Swordsman, etc). As usual, figures with ranged attacks will have an easier time leveraging the attack bonus.
  • In higher point games, bring several of these figures so you have flexibility in attack options, and so that your opponent can't reduce the effectiveness of Enchantment by taking out just one hero.
  • You also want at least one hero in an Enchantress build that's there primarily to act as a potential Soul Swap target. If you use Deadpool (a good Enchantment target) then Bob, Agent of Hydra is a great option. Atom is a good pick because he can move along with Enchantress without using Order Markers. Beast Boy (Pterodactyl) is another good choice, as he can Carry another figure when he moves up.
  • Figures that can negate a wound, such as Jocasta, Superman (I), Bizarro, or the 5th Precinct Beat cops, make for a nasty combination with Soul Swap.
  • Don't forget that Soul Swap is a one-time power. You don't want to use it on a weak hero that your opponent sends out as a sacrificial lamb. As long as the power is in play, you can force your opponent to adjust for it.
  • Because of Magical Defense and her high life, Enchantress is a relatively safe place to place Order Markers, allowing you to distribute Enchantment attacks as you see fit. If you have the right heroes alongside her, don't be afraid to have Enchantress at the front lines absorbing big hits. If Enchantress is close to the front, it's harder for your opponent to find places to attack from that are more than 4 spaces away from Enchantress, and therefore safe from Soul Swap.

ENCHANTMENT

After revealing an Order Marker on this card, instead of taking a turn with Enchantress, you may choose a Unique Hero you control within 4 clear sight spaces of Enchantress that does not have the Super Strength special power. Take a turn with the chosen Hero. During this turn, the chosen Hero has Super Strength, and adds 1 to its Attack number.

SOUL SWAP
Once per game, if a Unique Hero figure you control without the Mental Shield special power that is within 4 clear sight spaces of Enchantress is attacked by an enemy Unique Hero that is within 4 clear sight spaces of Enchantress and your defending figure receives no wounds, you may reveal an "X" Order Marker on this card. Players switch control of the defending and attacking figures, and their Army Cards. Remove all Order Marker from both Army Cards. If Enchantress is destroyed, all figures and cards affected by Soul Swap return to the players who controlled them before the Soul Swap.

MAGICAL DEFENSE
When Enchantress is attacked by an opponent's figure that does not have the Magical Defense special power, the most wounds Enchantress can take from this attack is one.

SUPER STRENGTH

FLYING

Cool design. I feel like she could be more than 380 though, with 7 lives and Magical Defense. I guess I also have to question if she deserves MD if Loki doesn't have it. I'll admit to not knowing the character that well.

Re: The Book of Enchantress (Amora) - Design

I think her theme is muuuch more magically based than Loki's. Magic is very central to her character (and her name), so it'd be wrong for her not to have Magical Defense.

If her cost is coming in too high, I might go with 6 lives. But she doesn't have much attack power compared to others up that high.

I think she should only add two dice when attacking adjacent figures.

Cool design Bats. 8)

She'll like to hang out with Wolverine or Merlyn to give them +2 to their attacks for sure

The opponent will have to be careful who attacks her if she has a friendly figure within 6 spaces of their attacking figure. Would hate to lose Superman for a Code:Blue Officer. :p But then again Supes should be able to put a wound on her.

Opponents should try to use special powers to wound her to avoid Soul Swap, or attack her teammates first, especially the weaker Unique Heroes that she could swap with.

Offers some neat options for her army and for her opponent to have to deal with. :)

Well that depends on the theme behind it. If it's just based off of them gaining Superstrength, then yeah, that makes sense. But if she is somehow enhancing them magically or enhancing their weapons, then ranged weapons could be affected to include the +2.

:woot: I love this design. To me, this is our first evil and really powerful sorceress, and that is awesome. I am very happy to see one design extend the magical and Asgardian factions.

I love it! :D:up:

Hmm, Tickle had won me over there for a second, but I like your take on this, Hahma. :-) I think I'll stick with it as is.

Yeah, she's definitely going to be a handful for the opponent, but she'll need others around to help her do her dirty work. I'm really keen on running Toad with her.

Sweet. :-) Hopefully she'll also blow the cobweb off of some other unique heroes that don't get as much drafting love. Who wouldn't love to have Bob around to swap for someone's Thor?

That's the plan. He's up next, with a very similar teleportation power to Sif.

Tons of Adgardians for me to test with! :woot:

I really like this design and I like Hahma's answer for my one theme question.
