Map design is one of my favorite aspects of this great game. I have made a variety of maps through the years to serve many purposes. Most maps I make tend to be for 1on1 play since I am heavily involved in the heroscpae tournament scene, but it isn’t all serious. :-D

1 on 1 Maps - These are single master set plus expansions designed for 1on1 play.

Ruins of Pine Tree Marsh

Requires 1 Rise of the Valkyrie Master set and just the tress from 1 Road to the Forgotten Forest expansion set.
I am pretty proud of this map. It is enshrined in the BoV even though it has higher ground start zones. The map appears to be a straight symmetrical but it is far from it. The ruin and the larger tree create different paths to the middle and the water layout is also non symmetrical. I was trying to create a simple yet playable tournament map. It is indicative of the type of map I will make when just throwing something together.

Shady Oasis

Requires 1 Swarm of the Marro master set and 1 Ticalla Jungle expansion set.
This map was my first earnest attempt at a Swarm Jungle build. The terrain we had available for Gencon 2008 was heavy Swarm and Jungle. I needed a map that used both. I felt the creation was adequate and it was the first alternate at the convention, if we ended up with more Swarm than anticipated. It was nominated for the BoV, but not approved. I find it to be a serviceable map for quick 1on1 play.

Crash & Burn

Requires 1 Rise of the Valkyrie Master set, 1 Road to the Forgotten Forest expansion set, and 1 Volcarren Wasteland expansion set.
I was just playing with the hexes one day trying to come up with something not symmetrical and using these sets. I ended up with a jagged road design cutting through lava. I wouldn’t call this a great map, but it is a fun play. There are some hard decision to make at times and on heck of a choke point. More so than anything I like the way it looks.

River Walk

This map came about through an idea I had to bank all the water with road with some cross over areas. It is a bit congested and does favor range a tad, but the footprint is small enough for melee to have a shot. This is another one where I like the way it looks, but it is also a decent play.

Stone Cold Crazy

I created this map as a small footprint map with lots of LOS blockers. I created quite sometime ago, but it got named and uploaded in 2008. This is form over function for sure. Pathing is a nightmare and it gives the Kyrie a bit of an advantage. It is actually best served in a Marvel game.

Island Conflict

This is a map I created with funrun and it was used at Gencon 2007. We needed a master set only build and there weren't many to choose from so we made this one. It was revised a few times with input from spider_poison. It served our needs at Gencon well and provides for some unique play, especially for being just the Rise set.

River Valley Pass

This map was nothing more than me tooling around with a Single Rise build. I felt good enough about to document and upload it. It is another attempt at balance without straight symmetry.

Into the Breach

This was a collaborative effort with Grungebob. We wanted to incorporate castle terrain into a competitive map without having to default to castle scenarios or slow down the game. This map achieves that objective. Into the Breech was one of the maps used at the National Heroscape tournament held in the Dallas area in October 06.

Moss Creek Road

This was a map made for national Heroscape Day in 2007. It was serviceable for the tournament and uses the Marvel terrain as start zone.

Fault Line

Faultline was originally released back in the HQ days, but I have since revised it for tourney play. This map is the bane of my HS tourney life. I made the map yet I lose on it...consistently. It incorporates lava but it is not the focal point of the map. It saw action in 3 different tournaments on national Heroscape day back in October 06.

Meat Grinder 2008

I revamped this map for National Heroscape Day 2008; it was used in the Hexes in Texas tournament. I always liked the look of Meat Grinder, the classic map from the Knights of the Dinner Table. However, it severely favored range units. This was an attempt to use the jungle terrain to help balance that out. The map looks awesome on the table and is fun to play, but still favors a range a good deal.

Mole Hills - Jungle Edition

This is another revamp idea I had come up with for the Gencon 2008 map pool. The original Mole Hills is a map by Jonathan and is the first map enshrined in the BoV. I was looking to give it a face lift and use it at Gencon. Replacing the Forgotten Forest trees with the Jungle terrain made for an awesome looking map and a change in game play for this oldie but goodie.

Jungle Swamp Road

This revamp idea came to me as a way to compliment the sets used for another map that I had selected for Gencon 2008. Bascially there was another map that used just the Forgotten trees but no road. This was a way for me to use the road hexes and Jungle terrain for a remake of the Hasbro map, Wolf Swamp Road. This map was very well received and helped revive yet another classic.

Highways & Dieways: Swarm Edition

A remake of UranusPChicago's legendary Highways and Dieways map. Again, Gencon resources had something to do with this creation. We knew we had more Swarm sets than Rise sets available to us and this rework was a way to maximize our resources while keeping a popular map in the mix. It was a tough stretch; some of the high ground had to go. The footprint is the same and the tree placement is basically the same. It came out better than I expected and has been well received.

Forsaken Swamp

This really didn’t start out as a revamp idea and honestly, it doesn’t favor Forsaken Waters much at all. It was just a map I made that I thought had some footprint similarities to the Hasbro map, Forsaken Waters.

Rage for Order

This was my first attempt at making a competitive map using Castle terrain without making a castle scenario. I have always enjoyed this map. The edges are wasted a bit, but I tried to compensate with glyphs. The battles in the middle of this map are usually full of carnage and are highly enjoyable. The castle door is not in play.

Cliffs of Astrid Canyon

Requires 2 Rise of the Valkyrie Master sets and the tress from 2 Road to the Forgotten Forest expansion sets.
This is a larger map designed for 2on2 play. It features set glyphs designed to make every part of the map useable. The concept is side mountains and a river canyon with an attack glyph that might require some cliff diving. It has symmetrical look to it but has subtle, yet balanced differences for each side of the map. This map has been used in multiple team tournament events

I myself have played Faultline and Faultline 2 plenty of times and is one of my favorite tourney maps. Rage for Order looks amazing, i love the use of the castle pieces.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to play it at Satyr's event.

though looking at the map pic, it makes me think the PDF might be wrong. That 5 Hex road piece should have been on top of those two sand pieces...hmmm...I must review

I'm sure the PDF isn't wrong - most likely construction error on my part. I arrived late, had Aldin helping me construct the layout.
When it was all said and done, I was missing a lot of terrain pieces including the bridge.
Satyr lent me one and I quick placed it on the board in the middle of some other action I was doing.

Based on some feedback I received from Velenne this past weekend, I have updated the map, RiverWalk, with better glyph placement and slight balance adjustments.
