I know they'll help Lex and now they will help Madame Hydra. We can imagine their hand to hand skills help their defense vs. melee attacks and they may have a thin kevlar vest under their suit to help them vs. range. So they're looking pretty solid after all. :D

I still think a defense of 4 is too high for them, even after all that. If you dropped the defense but still wanted them to have a bit more staying power, maybe you could have another power that lets them add a die for each adjacent body guard. Sort of like they are helping each other out when being attacked .

Other than that I too think they look good.

Cheers

Or if their defense was knocked down to 3, their cost can go down to 15. I don't think they are meant to be much of an offensive threat at all, but more of a way to help Lex and some other Crimelords or Masterminds. Kind of shielding fodder maybe or tying up melee units at the end of a game if the opponent gets close to Crime Lord or Mastermind.

Either way, I don't think they'd be the types for hordes of them like Moloids, more of a posse to hang and protect Lex, Madame Hydra or some others.

I was only meaning the power would add a die to their defense not their attack. Just to help them have a bit of staying power. I agree they aren't & shouldn't be offensive type characters. But a defense of 4 seems too high thematically.

Cheers

Re: The Book of Bodyguard

Hmm, my only concern is if there is a crime lord/mastermind with a power of his own that lets him replace his movement with something else, we'll have two such powers in effect...a FAQ about only using once replacing special power at a time should cover it though.

Why don't these guys have range? What kind of bodyguard doesn't carry at least a pistol? Why would Black Mask or Penguin carry a gun, but these guys don't? Makes no sense to me. I like everything else though. Nice work, Griff!

Re: The Book of Bodyguard

I agree, Spidey! Range to 5, defense to 3, keep 'em at 20, and I think they're good to go! :-)
Happy to see these guys finally being made, since they're the harbingers of Kingpin!
Oh, and I'd much prefer Loyal or Disciplined as personalities. Subservient sounds like a bit much. I mean, they're getting paid, they're not like worshiping anyone they're guarding.

Re: The Book of Bodyguard

I'd keep the 4 defense, what with body armor and everything...

I definitely agree with the ranged attack.

I agree with all of this

I got confused when I saw a new "Book of . . ." thread and thought I had missed the entire Design | ERB | Playtest | Final Editing | Release process.

But all of the proposed modifications sound good.

EDIT: Thank you, Griffin.

Re: The Book of Bodyguard - Design Phase ;-)

My view on the lack of range; If every criminal has a range of 5 (gun), it is sorta boring and lame IMO.

My view on the defense of 4; The idea behind these guys is that they are really only intended to be a meat shield. This offers the criminal faction something they need and something interesting in terms of game play. Thematically, I could see them having a bulletproof vest under the suit, and also just being a bit tougher than the average criminal, plus this figure is a tad on the large side.

Overall, I would just like some freaking variety. I don't want all the criminals to be that similar, so my decision is more about game play and personal aesthetics, but democracy rules, and all I can do is make my case and put it to a vote, even though I doubt that I have changed anyone's mind.

Do you prefer a range of
A
1
or
B 5

Do you prefer a defense of
C
3
or
D 4

I vote A and D
