Character Bio - Kara Zor-El has never quite acclimated to life on Earth in the same way her cousin has... unlike him, she lived on Krypton long enough to think of it as home. While struggling to adapt to Earth and use her powers for good, a time travel adventure forced her to witness the destruction of Krypton all over again. Even worse, Kara was put in the terrible position of having to make sure that Krypton was destroyed, in order to preserve the timeline. Just to top things off, while she was trying to recover from that trauma, Lobo came to Earth and picked a fight with her.

Anyone would be angry, but Supergirl was positively enraged, and that rage drew a Red Lantern Ring to her. After briefly losing control and becoming a berserker as newly-recruited Red Lanterns do, she was captured by Hal Jordan's Green Lanterns and brought to Ysmault. She was put through the ceremony to restore a Red Lantern's rationality, and served the Red Lantern Corps under Guy Gardner for a time. Guy did his best to discourage her from embracing the red light, knowing what a danger she could be. She eventually freed herself from the red ring by removing it while inside the Sun, which sustained her life during the normally-fatal process of removing a red ring.

PERSONALITY = BITTER

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 7

BLOOD OF YSMAULT 2
Start the game with 2 red Battery Markers on this card. Add one to Red Lantern's Move and Attack numbers for each red Battery Marker on this card. Whenever Red Lantern receives one or more wounds from an attack or the Blood and Rage special power, if there are fewer than 2 red Battery Markers on this card, you may choose any red Battery Marker that is not on an Army Card and place it on this card.

RECKLESS RAGE
After Red Lantern attacks a figure she was not engaged with at the start of her turn, if there is at least one red Battery Marker on this card, the defending figure receives a wound for each blank rolled by Red Lantern, and Red Lantern receives a wound for each blank rolled by the defending figure, then you must remove all red Battery Markers from this card.

KRYPTONIAN DEFENSE
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack from a figure that is not a Kryptonian, if at least one shield is rolled, all blanks rolled count as additional shields.

Re: The Book of Red Lantern (Kara Zor-El)

I can't say I ever really bought the idea of Kara as a Red Lantern, and with no real context on the run, this seems fine on a mechanical basis. I'm a bit concerned about power inflation - no Kryptonian other than Superman has ever ticked up to 8 Life - while understanding the value when her power is so, well, reckless.

So I'd encourage dropping Life down to 7 and seeing how she plays there. Not fundamentally opposed to 8 but I'd like to see if it's necessary before going there.

Re: The Book of Red Lantern (Kara Zor-El)

The 8 life came from the ring. Since the Red Lantern ring replaces their heart, we figured we'd shoot for 1 higher life than their usual. Much like all the Lanterns give a specific boost to certain fitting stats, the Reds getting 1 higher life than the norm felt like an interesting direction to take, with a slightly lowered defense in trade.

When we were brainstorming all of these I put together all of their cards, along with comic art. The one I liked most and had on the card was the one you have 1st. :up:

I don't know the story at all but it does seem a little weird her defense is so low. I mean Splinter has a def. of 6 for some reason and he isn't bulletproof.

Perhaps we just leave the life as it normally would be for the more powerful figures like Supergirl, and only raise it for the humans? Then set the defense where appropriate?

Uncommon Kryptonians have 4-5 Defense, and Superboy (Connor) has 5 (though admittedly, he's only part Kryptonian). 5 doesn't seem out of bounds for a young, reckless Kryptonian.

Yeah, I'd be fine with leaving Life at the standard 7 for Supergirl. Makes sense that the heart thing doesn't make such a big difference at the Kryptonian scale.

Re: The Book of Red Lantern (Kara Zor-El)

5 Defense is sort of low but, of course, remember the blanks = shields boost Kryptonians have. She essentially has 7+ defense by default.

I was going to say the same thing about the bonus Life point, for the same reason, so glad we're on the same page. :D Like I said, fine with tweaking it up if necessary but starting at 7 seems sensible.

Re: The Book of Red Lantern (Kara Zor-El)

Have you considered making Red Power Battery 1 instead of 2? It should have the result of making her less swingy, especially since she can replace it herself.

Re: The Book of Red Lantern (Kara Zor-El)

I'd worry about her feeling a little boring with just one marker.
