Tournament Details

This tournament will be bi-weekly. You will have two weeks to complete your game with your opponent. (Week 1 begins Monday 11/20, extension requests due to the holiday will be permissible with requests to tournament organizer)
-Max Figures: 18
-Rule of 12 (No more than 12 figures from any one card)
-Point Total: 500 points
-Classic Figures, but Delta Points (No Marvel or VC)

Randomized Draft (Strike 1)
For this event, the tournament organizer will provide a unique draft pool for each game. The pool will
consist of 1500-1600 points.
Random Draft Creation Rules

-No unique cards will be listed more than once in the pool
-Common squads will appear x4 (remember rule of 12 though)
-There will be 0 or at least 2 common squads in each draft pool.
-Uncommon heroes will appear x1
-Common heroes will appear x6
-Generation will stop once a pick places it within 1500-1600 point range. Common units will count 50% towards this accumulation.
Before each game, there will be a dice-off, done by the tournament organizer.
The winner of the dice-off decides whether to "strike and pick second" or "pick first"
If the winner chooses ‘pick first’ then the loser of the dice-off will ‘strike and pick second’
Before any unit selections, the player who strikes and picks second may choose one army card in the draft pool and ban it from play in this game. (If an army card of a common unit is selected, ALL army cards for that unit are banned) The strike may be declined. Draft then proceeds as normal below
The person who picks first chooses one card's worth of figures and places it. Players then alternate picking and placing one card per turn from the drafting pool.
For each unique army card pick, you choose a single card's worth of figures and place it in your start zone (except if you draft Airborne/Rechets). If you wish to sit figures, that decision must be made at the time when you would place those figures (e.g. if you have a squad of 4 figures and placing all those figures would put you at the figure limit but you would have points left over, you may choose to place only some of those figures)
For each common unit army card pick, you make take as many army cards of that type as you like (up to the max available). Each squad past the first one you select will use your subsequent draft pick(s).

So if I am picking first and select 2 squads of Deepwyrm Drow, then I will have forfeited my 2nd pick.
If I select Deepwyrm Drow x3 then my opponent will get the next 3 picks before I choose again (assuming they do not pick a multiple squad choice)
Later in the draft if more of that same squad are available, either player can pick those up as well

Matchups

Players continue drafting until they pass or until they have no options within the 500 point, 18 figure limits. Once a player passes or has no placeable options, their draft ends, and the other player may continue drafting until they have no options remaining. *Airborne Elite and Rechets of Bogdan count towards the figure limit.
If the placed figures in the army require more than 24 start zone spaces, place the minimum number of additional start zone tiles needed adjacent to the back of the start zone. All additional start zone tiles placed must be adjacent to standard start zone spaces, must be the same level as an adjacent standard start zone space (use grass or ice), and cannot be placed adjacent to a space that is not in the start zone. If there is a dispute in adding tiles, contact an organizer.
Tournament Setup

-There will be 4 rounds (swiss style) lasting 2 weeks each.
-Each player with at least 3 wins will make a single elimination tournament with tiebreakers for seeding based on Strength of Schedule (Win total of opponents).
*Tournament Organizer reserves the right to allow a player with only 1 loss and at least 2 wins into the playoffs based on number of participants.
-Due to the nature of the draft pool changing every game, rematch avoidance for playoffs will not be considered. Rematches will be avoided during the regular season

I feel like x4 commons is going to lead to a lot of splitting commons which will likely create a number of "mirrorish matches". I almost wonder if 3x for commons will make things less samey.

There are certainly many variations. We discussed and debated many of them. I would say the main dissents to x3 commons were
-Dislike that Squad x1 as the #1 pick not being viable with Squads x3 on the board (since #2 pick can pick the other 2 squads)
-Squads x3 unbalancing 4 man squads vs. 3 man squads with Rule of 12
We did heavily consider it x3 (or even x1 which I wouldn't have hated ;) ) and thought out some extra rules to alleviate certain things, but ultimately decided to keep x4 commons for simplicity.

This is a choice between competitive fairness and "non-mirrorness", this iteration let the players choose if they want to go for a mirror or not whereas with x3 mirrors are basically forbidden.
And x2 would leave to the same problem (except x1 vs x1 instead of x2 vs x2) also a lot of squads are pretty terrible in x2.
This is a first draft anyway we'll see how it goes!
