Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
The sequel had Danny Glover in it. A Predator was hunting in a city (LA, NY, I don't remember), taking out gang members and police. A government agency tried to capture the predator by luring it into a cold storage warehouse. They all died. Don't remember how, but Glover killed the predator. It was a really bad movie.
------------- Personally, I like Wulf's simple choose to self-destruct mechanic. The "one-life remaining" aspect is very thematic. Had Arnold killed it outright, there would have been no chance to self-destruct. If a predator has more than one life left, I doubt you would choose to blow him up unless it would win the game for you - but that wouldn't be thematic. |

1. I agree, being able to trigger only when one life remains may not make it as usable, but it will make it more thematic, which I would prefer over usable. 2. Wulf's idea keeps it simple and thematic. More could be done to make it super thematic but then it will also lose its playable simplicity and could get over the top. I don't think the idea with this project is to completely simulate what took place in the movie(s) or book(s) but to capture the essence of the character. In this case, a simple one-life-remaining-kaboom radius accomplishes just that. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I was thinking about the 1-life-kaboom.
In the 1st movie (I saw the others but they were quickly forgettable) Arnie did a good job of wounding the Predator but it either field dressed its wounds or just kept going. How about an ability along these lines... Quote:
Just a thought... |

I love this idea, LC!

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Hello all, new to the site. Have been dabbling in game mechanics and game creation going all the way back to when I was 10 and using stats off of the backs of baseball cards.
I would love to see a Flash Gordon unique hero. I was thinking something of a melee basic attack and pistol special attack. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
You can get in the queue and take a turn designing, if you like.
To all: Balantai was looking for someone to take over this thread, and no one offered, so I will do the job if no one objects. |

Edit: @ Rav: welcome to the site! We are working on a design for the Predator right now, but Flash Gordon would be an interesting figure to create, too. Hope you'll stick around. Edit: @ Taeblewalker: Balantai always brought snacks. Will you be bringing snacks, too? Doritos and Diet Dew would be great. ;) |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
BTW, I see that wulf hasn't been on for a couple of weeks.
What should we do with the Predator to move him along since his designer has been absent for a while? Quote:

BTW, I am doing P90X right now so Dorito's aren't working for me- maybe carrots; they're practically the same as Doritos- at least that is what I keep telling myself :( |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Thanks! Yes, I would love to get in the queue and would love to help in any way that I can.

I'll PM Wulf (unless someone else already has). If I don't get a response, we could either finish Predator ourselves, or put it on hold for now and let the next person in line submit a design. BTW, LC, I like your "ABILITY NAME HERE" idea. Quote:

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
We going to wrap up the Predator? I found a figure that would work for it.

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Awesome job. I'll propose that we finalize it after I take one last look at it.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
The figure seems a little expensive.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Yeah, I just happened across it while looking for custom ideas. I looked for some alternatives with no luck.

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Predator
Vydar Yautja Unommon Hero Predator Honorable Medium 6 LIFE 6 MOVE 6 Spaces RANGE 5 Spaces ATTACK 3 Dice DEFENSE 4 Dice POINTS (120ish?) PREDATOR'S STEALTH This Predator can move through all figures and is never attacked when leaving an engagement. When this Predator rolls defense dice against an attacking figure that is not adjacent, one shield will block all damage. This Predator may not use this ability on a water space. WORTHY PREY When this Predator attacks an adjacent figure with one or more order unrevealed markers on its army card, add 3 to this Predator's attack value. SELF-DESTRUCT If this Predator receives enough wounds from an attack to be destroyed roll the 20 sided die. If you roll a 16 or higher, before destroying this Predator, roll two unblockable attack dice. All figures within three clear sight spaces receive a wound for each skull shown. How does this look? |

One question: do we need to specify "unrevealed" order markers? IMO, if the figure has any order markers, they would be considered an active enemy and therefore be WORTHY PREY. Just wondering. It's not a deal breaker. otherwise:  |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I am fine with either one.
Let's vote! |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
My final vote:
 with mac's any OM suggestion |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
With "any OMs" for WORTHY PREY
 We can set Predator's point value at 120 for now. If/when I ever carve out time for playtesting, I'll be sure to try this one out. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
It looks like that's the way to go, then. If anyone else wants to object, that's fine. Are there any other changes anyone would make? It would be nice to find a cheaper figure than the one Rav siggested, but I haven't had a chance to look.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
There are some Horrorclix Predator figures, but they are hard to find and can get almost as expensive as that unpainted figure. StrikeZone Online has a few different ones. I checked Miniature Market, Troll and Toad, and Cool Stuff but none showed any Predator minis in stock. I even checked eBay, but didn't see any single minis available.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Card looks good. Thumbs up from me. I even made a scan of the local shops to try anf find a mini that would work, couldn't find anything.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I took out "unrevealed." We seem to be having trouble finding a figure, but that shouldn't stop the process. Therefore, I propose that we move Predator, as written below, to playtesting.
Predator Vydar Yautja Unommon Hero Predator Honorable Medium 6 LIFE 6 MOVE 6 Spaces RANGE 5 Spaces ATTACK 3 Dice DEFENSE 4 Dice POINTS 120 PREDATOR'S STEALTH This Predator can move through all figures and is never attacked when leaving an engagement. Going to use an Storm Golem (AT-43 mini) as a proxi test for the ol' Predator for this weekend's games.

Sorry. I saw you had made the card, and I was too involved in other things to think clearly. Hrockle it is, and I'll PM him. Otherwise, I'll talk to LC.

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Nothing to be sorry about. When this project started out, I made playtesting cards for each Hero. I missed some in the middle that I'll try to catch up on.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Any word from Hrockle?
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
While we wait to see if Hrockle is still around, I've got some notes and questions. I'm going through the playtesting cards I made and creating playtesting cards for the ones I've missed.
1. Didn't we do Frankenstein's Monster? I remember discussing it, but don't know if it was ever finished. 2. Need mini suggestions for the following figures to use in making hit zones. -Samuel Sullivan -Inigo Montoya - Elf Swashbuckler: Angelfire #18 -Agent Smith - Krav Maga Tommy Lee Jones -Eric the Cavalier - Merchant Guard: Desert of Desolation #12 -Ash Williams -Dr. Who 3. Thought about including a Heroes of Fiction logo somewhere on the card. Probably just make a simple "HoF" similar to the CHCG24 logo. If someone has a better idea or design, let me know. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I haven't heard from Hrockle since I sent him a PM 5 days ago, so go ahead with your design.
As for the figures, Eric the Cavalier uses Merchant Guard: Desert of Desolation #12, and Inigo Montoya uses Elf Swashbuckler: Angelfire #18. |

For Agent Smith, we had discussed using the Tommy Lee Jones Krav Maga agent, but the figure has a gun and Agent Smith has Range 1. Should I just go ahead and use that figure? |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
That would work fine - you can just cut off the gun if you want, since Agent Smith tended to fight hand to hand. ;)
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I will work on a HoF logo if you guys want me to. I like to do stuff like that.
As far as the next design, so many characters I want to see come to life :ponder: Let me do some mini searching. I have a couple if ideas but I want to see which one has the most available appropriate miniature. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I'd love to see what you come up with for a logo!
As far as your choice, take all the time you need...did you pick yet? :D I've got all the cards done except for Samuel Sullivan and Ash Williams. I have a hit zone for Dr. Who that will work - it was a Star Wars mini. I'll look through my other Star Wars Minis and see if I've got something that will work for the last 2. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Here is a link to the first post with Frankenstein's Monster
It doesn't look like it was ever finished. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Double post- sorry.
I have decided on a character. I was trying to decide between Sydney Bristow from ALIAS and Dr. Dolittle (not the Eddie Murphy one :headshake:). Needless to say there are plenty of figs to use for Agent Bristow but I saw that our own mac122 already has a card made for her. Dr. Dolittle is one I wanted to make for my Heroes of Classic Literatture thread but it was very challenging and it is hard to find figs. Anyhow, because of the challenge, I choose... Dr. Dolittle Literature So far I have this for a mini... http://pj.b5z.net/i/u/2042237/i/HCUN-062.jpeg Shade from Heroclix Unleashed. I found 30 of them for $2 or less and that was on only one site. I am basically looking for something with a top hat. Doctor Dolittle on Wikipedia Vision for Dr. Dolittle: 1. I would like to see him as a Kato Katsuro type of unit for beasts, animals, insects, etc. 2. He was an adventurer and traveler. Something to bring this out. 3. He was a veterinarian so a healing ability for beasts, animals, insects, etc. would be very cool Numbers 1 and 3 are the most important probably to catch the flavor of Dr. Dolittle. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Found this for Ash: http://studiominiatures.com/page4.html
And depending on which version of the good Doctor you liked best: http://www.fantization.com/drhughmccrimmonx1fig.aspx http://www.fantization.com/juniordoc...lordx1fig.aspx http://www.fantization.com/malcolmec...i-fix1fig.aspx |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Arachnids, Insects, and Beasts would work.
WALK WITH THE ANIMALS After taking a turn with Dr. Doolittle, you may move up to two Arachnids, Insects or Beasts you control up to 4 spaces each. TALK WITH THE ANIMALS Instead of taking a turn with Dr. Dolittle, you may take a turn with any Arachnid, Insect or Beast unit you control. THE GOOD DOCTOR If Dr. Doolittle ends his turn adjacent to a Unique Arachnid, Insect or Beast Hero you control, you may remove up to two wound markers from that Hero's army card. The second power shows that he is giving the animals orders in the sense of order markers. |
