Wow, Gibby, that is a great idea! The parchment reminds me a lot of the Journal on the Hasbro site! Was that the look you were going for? Too cool. 8)

Saving your images...

LilNewbie June 2nd, 2006 02:56 PM

Nice work, Gib! Call them Hex's Journal.

Newb.

gibberish_47 June 2nd, 2006 03:33 PM

It was pretty simple, really. I just printed them onto some tan-ish paper, cut them out, crumpled them up (a lot! Doesn't matter if there are a few little rips, it adds character, just don't rip the whole thing in half), then stuck them in a book and set a big box of acrilic paint on top of the book and left them in for about 20 hours. I'm sure it would have worked with less time, though.

atmospro June 2nd, 2006 10:47 PM

you can get the same effect with either Photoshop, Fireworks or Corel Draw in much more controlled envioronment. Plus corner rolls, edge tears and aging effects can be added.

HEH what are you inking your drawing with it appears the large areas are done with magic marker. If it would be to your advanage to change to india ink and brush. When marker is printed the black area are not going to be solids. The pen strock are going to show through.

Thanks for the compliments, Atmos!

Just pure India ink - no markers for me :x .
Where are you seeing a problem? I've sent copies to Newbie with solid black intact.

Gibby's look fine, too!

Controlled environment? Who always wants control in art-making? I think Gibby did a swell job. And if one was to hold the parchment in their hand or in a frame, the interaction of 'realness' versus affect is beyond compare.

gibberish_47 June 2nd, 2006 10:58 PM

It's all about the texture of the paper. It actually feels like a cross between an animal skin and cloth. Sure, you can get the idea of the look in photoshop, but you're not going to get the texture of the paper.

Hex has always been the man with the artistic hand. I've always thought his drawings and artwork were awesome. Both he and I would always be drawing in one form or another and I could never keep up. Maybe thats why I went more computer then hand drawn. Trust me, I've known Hex the better part of my life and he has always been awesome. I look forward to seeing his work on the cover of or inside the codex.

Thanks Stoner, but you need to show off your artistic drawing skills too! I have a feeling you'd do a rawkin' rendition of Krug or the Dumetefs.

Hex_Enduction_Hour June 28th, 2006 10:27 AM

I'm scraping the barrel now.
I haven't had a chance to draw anything new, but here are some sketches and studies for some of the figures.

Romans and Greeks.
IMax was the one who got me on the Roman subject matter for the Codex. He wanted them marching into battle to accompany Bad_Calvin's article . I tried and tried on that request, but I just wanted to go with them in battle. Here was my attempt at his request, but I just didn't like where it was going.

Sketch of Legos/Decimus vs. Dumetefs

Concan - the brooding Kyrie Warrior. I like Concan's bio a lot. Why was he stubborn in choosing sides? And what exactly did Raelin do to help him decide?
Practicing the armor for Concan

Same as above.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...00008small.jpg

I love slopping on the india ink. Here's a good example on Concan's armor.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...00007small.jpg

Used to draw a lot with ballpoint pen. I tried it again for Concan. I was also toying with Saylind looking like a dark-haired, Greekish sort of lady.

hey wheres my Tae on the castle going "you better not cost that much :(" and also, WOW awsome drawings!

netherspirit June 28th, 2006 11:06 AM

I wish I had half that talent! HEH, those are awesome.

LilNewbie June 28th, 2006 01:30 PM

Love the sketches, HEH! And like NS, I wish I had a thimble full of that talent. The swooping in Concan is awesome!

Newb.

Hex_Enduction_Hour June 28th, 2006 03:16 PM

Thanks guys. I'll try to get cracking on those assignments! Oh, I have difficult time inking feathered wings, so I shy away from Concan's as you may have noticed.

CupidsArt June 28th, 2006 04:35 PM

Nice work on the Depth in the first Concan image, :D and as always love the work.

Ah! I great feather artist! Also there was a one-hit wonder member who came and showed off his ballpoint pen cards. He could do good feathered wings too.

Thanks CA.

Those are absolutely wondeful Hex. Great job :P

hextr1p July 1st, 2006 11:18 AM

Yeah, great work as always, HeH. For some reason, the Monks vs. Zettians is my favorite. But all are very well done, and work well in the current issue of the Codex. Well done! :D

Hex_Enduction_Hour July 1st, 2006 12:16 PM

Thanks guys!

I need to get cracking on new stuff for the next issue. Besides Newb's 1 piece I don't have a thing done yet.

UD - you got skillz! Looks great. The Tae/castle drawing is coming. I just need to settle in and begin. Can I use it for the next issue as well?

H3xtr1p, we need your drawing talent in the next issue too. You drew your new avatar correct?

No, no... if I was the artist who drew that, I'd be attending this month's San Diego Comic-Con... as a guest! ;)

The artists' name is Skottie Young of LedHeavy. I so dig his style, as well as the work he did with his 'Spider Clan' series.

However, I do hope to contribute artwork to the next Codex, if my schedule permits. :)

ultradoug July 2nd, 2006 05:24 AM

yeah use Tae looking at castle.
woo more stuff in codex woo.
Hextr1p's avi looks like its farting or something.

Hex_Enduction_Hour July 4th, 2006 03:51 PM

I completed all four Gladiatrons last night. I had a really fun time drawing and inking those guys! Interesting how each one has a different style Cyberclaw.

I so wanna share them but I wanna keep them for Codex #4 too.
:?

How about you show us tw0 and save two for the Codex #4.

Good work to bot HEH and UD.

skyknight July 5th, 2006 07:49 AM

Alright HEH, I ve got it. Do you take requests :) I am a bit of an artist as well but no where near your caliber. If I see an image I can reproduce it but I can not generally go from brain to paper like you do. Anyways your art style inspired this thought so technically it is your idea so now you have to paint it since it is your thought to begin with

Here we go, I want to see Theracus comin right at me, wings out in a dive, beak open to rip my face off. Slightly tilted forward to represent a drop in alltitude. On his back is Sir Denrick, sheild off to the side a bit, and sword cocked back to take off whatever Theracus leaves behind. I see intensity in his eyes and his face almost curled up into a war cry. I have a vision of this being the last thing I ever see, it should be intense.

Alright not to put you on the spot, but if you get time I would love to see this scene. If it does not strike you as it does me, cool, just a thought. I have this image burned into my brain and it wants out any way it can :D

Lemme try it Skynight! The whole pose/setup sounds spectacular! I'll try and get all these done this month as the next Codex deadline is Aug. 1, I believe.

I haven't done Denrick or Theracus yet. It should be challenging. I'm heading up to the mountain cabin today and will be gone for 5 days. I'll bring my art stuff with me. When I have down time, I'll start getting to the requests.

Thanks for the idea! I'm more than happy to attempt your vision.

CA, I can't wait to see your art thread. I also want to see some stuff by Caravaggio and Atmospro.

And speaking of me being fast - that's one of the main reasons I don't touch custom HS units anymore. I was rolling those suckers out faster than I could update them (or cared to  ). I really like the creative side of making customs, but playing them and revising them sucked. :x

Drawings a whole lot more fun.

Thanks for looking CA.

And Guys, I love all the coloring! They look sweet!!!

Yes, yes yes! I just brought the pencils. No inks. I wanted to concentrate on sketches and nothing more. I also took all figures I needed to sketch. Take a look. Theracus is difficult for me to get correct, but I'm determnined. I have a ton of other 'assignments' to do first, but I was working dilligently on the Skyknight!

(I liked this Marro Warrior, but it turned out too...uh, phallicy for me, ya know? I wanted him to look creepy, but he turned out kinda, Hot Sailor magazine or something...)

Thanks Robaula for comments. It's faster for me to work in black and white and personally, that's how I like my comics too. Yeah, they can be a coloring book for whoever wants to have a go at them.

Here's one I did and have had some 'issues' with the content and how it is presented. LOL.

Vydar's Forces versus the Mardden Hounds. First image is the original inked drawing without pencils erased. The second is after I erased the pencils and put a white 'halo' around Major and the cyberclawed hound in an attempt to make them stand out from the rest of the Wulsinu in the pit.
