Garth finds him weeks later, with his hair and beard grown long, brooding in his cave. Soon after […], Aquaman loses his left hand when the madman Charybdis steals his ability to communicate with sea life and sticks Arthur's hand into a piranha-infested pool. This causes Aquaman to become somewhat unhinged, and he begins having prophetic dreams, and then, in need of a "symbol", attaches a harpoon spearhead to his left arm in place of his missing hand" (Wikipedia, 2013). _________________________________________________________________ -Rulings and Clarifications-

Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
NAME = AQUAMAN
SECRET IDENTITY = ARTHUR CURRY SPECIES = ATLANTEAN UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = WARRIOR PERSONALITY = DETERMINED SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 5 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 5 DEFENSE = 5 POINTS = 330 WATER STRENGTH 1 Aquaman does not stop his movement when entering a water space. Add 1 die to Aquaman’s attack and defense while he is on a water space. RETRACTABLE HARPOON SPECIAL ATTACK Range 4. Attack 5. Choose a non-adjacent figure to attack. If Aquaman inflicts a wound against a small or medium figure with this special attack, place the defending figure on any empty space adjacent to Aquaman and attack one additional time with his normal attack. Figures moved with this special attack will not take any leaving engagement attacks. SUBMERGE 11 If Aquaman is attacked while on a water space, you may roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 11 or higher, Aquaman takes no damage and you may place him on any unoccupied water space within 5 spaces of Aquaman that is no more than 3 levels above or below Aquaman's base. If Aquaman is placed adjacent to the attacking figure, you may roll an unblockable attack die against that figure. When Aquaman moves with Submerge, he will not take any leaving engagement attacks. SUPER STRENGTH

Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
Awesome - this is Aquaman unleashed for sure. Get him in the water and he's trading blows with Superman.
Water Leap seems a bit less thematic to me than on the other Aquaman as this guy feels more "slow and steady." I'd be interested in replacing it with some sort of non-adjacent evasion when in water. |
Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
Good stuff Scapey!
I don't know this version of Aquaman much, but perhaps a different power than water leap would work better like Johnny said. Would set him apart from the other one more. |
Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
Good stuff! The special attack should specify that you place the figure on an empty space, though. :-)

Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
Not sure that Warrior is the best fit, but nothing comes to mind that is better at the moment.
I also don't believe he should have super strength. Maybe while on a water space, maybe. |
Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
Should be "one fewer" instead of "one less" and "this special attack" instead of spelling the name out again. Agree with the SS on a water space.

Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
Our current version of Aquaman has SS all the time. Not seeing any reason to make this one's conditional ....

Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
I've cleaned up the text.
I can see why Water Leap isn't as thematic here as it would be on regular Aquaman. Maybe Stealth Dodge in water, but that might make him too difficult to kill. His defense could be greatly lowered to accommodate maybe. |
Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
He should be difficult to kill in water, though. Most of the time he's still going to be at height disadvantage if he's there and someone engages him. I like the idea of stealth dodge in water. :-)

Re: The Book of Aquaman (90s) - Design Phase
And I like the idea of forcing enemies to come to him, too - that feels very accurate for the character.
