Well, since they drive on the wrong side of the road when turning left you actually must use the right blinker. Very confusing.

What would you do if a loved one got hurt or was having a baby or otherwise needed quick transportation to a hospital?

That's one of the justifications I've used before and have heard many others mention. Even if you don't wish to drive on a day to day basis, learning and knowing how to drive could save your life or the life of someone else. :2cents:

Anyways, that's off-topic. A car is much easier to operate than a helicopter or another complex machine, so I can see the point of limiting it. I'm not sure there is a way to, though. Even if you say only humans or humanoids can operate, most humans can't fly a helicopter, even poorly in a skirmish. I think it would work better without any restrictions.

That's a decent thought and you got me to think for a moment. In the end, though, I reckon I'd be better off calling an ambulance and doing what I could for them where they were rather than trying to move them, bundle them into a car where I can't look after them, try to navigate traffic that an ambulance could get through easier, try to get to a hospital etc. - emergency medical supplies will be in the ambulance, so my loved one would likely get required attention sooner and wouldn't be in an uncomfortable position in the back of a car where I can't do anything for them while waiting, and I wouldn't be in control of a potentially lethal weapon while panicked. You did make me wonder, though....

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

1) I like a good road trip.
2) Hard to get public transit into the mountains for hiking.
3) Some music just sounds better when driving.
4) The US's infrastructure was designed with the idea of everyone driving everywhere always. Colorado has proved mercifully more walkable than upstate NY, though.

Were it not for those things, I'd be all about the no-car life.

Anyhow... I did hit zombies in cars earlier.

I'd kinda like to get one more test from a public member, to get another outsider perspective. I feel pretty good about everything balance-wise, and my biggest concern at this point is just... whether or not people are actually gonna enjoy this in its current form (some worries about the feedback from our last sign-up).

So I'd say test whatever you want, T. Flip through some of the earlier tests (they're linked in the OP) to get some ideas about how to leverage the Sports Car. Maybe try one game where you're really trying to leverage it, and one where it's a bit more of a throw-in. I'm as concerned about the 'fun' report as anything.

Yeah, I'd heard that in America a car is pretty much mandatory, which is mercifully not really the case in the U.K., particularly not where I live. The music angle I can actually understand - I don't like the idea of cutting myself off with something like an iPod (don't own one) but I do love some music, so music when traveling is something I sacrifice due to my preference for public transport. If I really wanted to go hiking, I could probably take a train to Church Stretton and walk in the hills there - as is, I generally keep to the paths in Long Mynd. :)

Yeah, I was watching some tv show or movie somewhat recently where they went back in time or something and a guy was carrying around a huge boom box and making everyone on the block (or maybe it was on the subway) listen to his favorite song. Now everyone just has an ipod with a set of headphones, so much better.

I get irritated whenever I'm walking down the street someone with their car window open starts blaring their music out - I usually end up commenting 'thanks for sharing' sarcastically under my breath, something I picked up from a throwaway line from my brother. :)
The exception is when, instead of the usual generic 'doom-da-da-doom-da-da-doom' sounds you occasionally get classical music or opera, which feels so strangely out of place I just have to smile. Only happened a couple of times, though.

Agreed that the fun test is really the only one that matters at the moment. Until we are confident on that one, we can't really move forward in any meaningful way.

Units: T1 (1025): Mr. Fantastic (235), Invisible Woman (215), The Thing (325), Lady Blackhawk (110), Sports Car (140)
T2 (1030): Cosmic Boy (260), Saturn Girl (220), Karate Kid (230), Timber Wolf (260), Matter-Eater Lad (60)

Spoiler Alert!

T1’s plan was to have Lady Blackhawk and the Thing drive the car over and do some damage with Hit and Run while Reed and Sue came in from behind. Hopefully by the time the car was destroyed, Reed and Sue would be able to join Ben and LB in a full assault. T2’s plan was basically just to get M-E Lad to eat the car.

The Legion was pretty effective here. Obviously, M-E Lad taking out the Car that quickly had a huge impact, but even after that the Legion was pretty easily able to outmaneuver the Adventurers based on number of figures alone. I think if the Car had gotten a few more H&Rs in it would’ve led to a more fair battle.

Army Test
Map: Road Rampage (No Glyphs)
Units: Team 1 (1,000): Frankenstein (320), Bruce Banner (70), Incredible Hulk (Hasbro) (370), Ant-Man (Pym) (30), Ants x7 (70), Sports Car (140)
Team 2 (1,000): Flash (Garrick) (220), Power Girl (400), Hourman (190), Liberty Belle (190)

Spoiler Alert!

Pretty simple battle here. The ants got extremely lucky, managing to surround Power Girl and practically destroy her themselves.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: The car will be very useful in getting slower pieces (like Frankenstein) into battle faster. In neither game did I feel like it was worth 140, but it also got taken out pretty quickly both times, which hasn't happened other times I've played with the car.

I think making DOs a more regular part of the game will lead to a few shake-ups in the meta, especially with figures that already interact with DOs. If M-E Lad can instantly destroy a >200 vehicle in one turn, something might need some re-adjustments.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: I think adding draftable DOs to the game is a great idea that opens up a lot of new design space. These small rule additions feel perfectly natural to me as an addition to the pre-existing vehicle rules. However, I do think that figues designed already to mess with DOs (M-E Lad and Galactus are the worst I can think of) could have a serious negative impact on the gameplay experience. I'm far less likely to draft a 250 point Batmobile knowing that my opponent can draft a 60 point character to defeat it. I have full faith that you guys can figure out the solution though, and that draftable DOs will be a fun addition to the game.

Lazy Orang December 10th, 2018 11:12 AM

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

I don't think most vehicles being auto-destroyed is a concern, and in edge-cases like the Batmobile they'll likely need some shake-ups anyway.
Matter-Eater Lad is fair enough, but I don't think anyone can seriously complain about Galactus.

Ronin December 10th, 2018 08:56 PM

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

Yeah, in the case of Galactus, he's 2500 points and he doesn't usually get sprung on you, since you only play him when you want to clean up the board. Not exactly counter-draft material.

Tornado December 10th, 2018 10:12 PM

Would the Sports Car be considered a friendly figure?
Could you teleport a Car with a Boom Tube?

Ronin December 10th, 2018 10:16 PM

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

Yep. DOs are figures and the Sports Car can be in an army, so it is technically a friendly figure.

Find a weird interaction?

Dr. Fate could Teleport a Car with two passengers then?
And you can drive onto a Boom Tube and teleport?
Can you boost a Car stats? Sue maybe?

Yeah, I think we did a lot of nerfing since I tested them. I think the version I tested was probably worth the cost ... with Civilians. As is, probably not. Should we drop it 20-30 points and go from there? Really, ideally, cars should be pretty cheap, since they're not a superhero or something, they're just ... cars.

Tornado December 13th, 2018 05:22 PM

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

Throw down down some match ups and I will test them out.
They seem to be coming in over cost right now so some strong builds may help there.
I think being a little cautious here is a good idea and see how it goes. There are a lot of future VDOs that could be made.

IAmBatman December 13th, 2018 05:42 PM

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

I'm not sure if they have any "strong" builds left at this point. But they're a decent counter to anyone who fears auto wounds, I suppose.

Ronin December 14th, 2018 07:48 PM

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

I liked it against the X-Men - being able to ping Professor X for an auto-wound or two is nice. Playing it on a sparse map with Selene is also nice - gives her a mobile object to animate.

IAmBatman December 20th, 2018 05:42 PM

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

So how do we move forward here? My impression is that the current version is overpriced for what it is. We don't have it up for testing anymore. How or where do we want to go from here?

Ronin December 20th, 2018 07:39 PM

I got another test in with Reed and Adventurers, including Lady B and two Sports Cars, also 4 Porta-Toilets. Good fun. Reed is a fun choice as he can lead from inside the Car. You are giving up 140 points of Adventures though.

Lady Blackhawk, yes please! :woot:

Re: Draftable Vehicles Discussion Thread (Public Testing)

I was impressed with Lady Blackhawk. She did well. The only bummer was the two times I rolled a 10 for Hit and Run it was Reed driving. I could see pairing them up in a Car. I could never get the extra move though as you have to reveal an OM on Lady Blackhawk to get it.

Walkers was pretty great. Their incredible amount of movement (with the help of a Lurker) allowed them to pop out of the Car to set up Walking Dead and then another would jump in.
