The Book of Red Mantis Blade Dancers

The Book of Red Mantis Blade Dancers

Scourge of Apollyon - C3V Wave 22 - Defenders of Atal Temple

The figures used for this unit are Pathfinder figures from the Crown of Fangs set. The names of the figures used are Red Mantis Assassin: Female and Red Mantis Assassin: Male

Quote:

DUAL STRIKE
When a Red Mantis Blade Dancer attacks, that Blade Dancer may attack one additional time. A Red Mantis Blade Dancer cannot attack the same figure more than once per turn.

STEALTH ARMOR 12
When a Red Mantis Blade Dancer receives one or more wounds, before removing that Blade Dancer, roll the 20‑sided die. If you roll a 12 or higher, ignore any wounds.

STEALTH LEAP
Instead of their normal move, any or all Red Mantis Blade Dancers may Stealth Leap. Stealth Leap has a move 3. When counting spaces for a Blade Dancer's leaping movement, ignore elevations. A Blade Dancer may leap over water without stopping, pass over figures without becoming engaged, and leap over obstacles such as ruins. A Blade Dancer may not leap more than 12 levels up or down in a single leap. If a Blade Dancer is engaged when starting to leap, that Blade Dancer does not take any leaving engagement attacks.

Character Bio:

No one is even quite sure if the Xoderans are native to Arctorus. Ancient records show no mention of them - more contemporary accounts record sightings of them with surprise and confusion. The Jungles of Xod (or Sector Four, depending on who you ask) are almost uninhabitable, so it is doubly surprising that a species like the Xoderans are as well-adapted to it as they are.

Their culture is almost completely unknown to outsiders. Some eyewitnesses - explorers and those lost in the jungle - have claimed to have been admitted into their camps. Those witnesses saw (they claim) the elaborate ritual dances performed by these Blade Dancers. Some explorers also reported aggression, around a few key areas, but not pursuit beyond certain boundaries. As if they are defending something....

The army card and the text transcript are both missing a word that is on every other Stealth Leap in the game:

It looks like adding the missing word may cause a word-wrap problem on the card. If so, the last sentence could be shortened by making it more consistent with the Shaolin Monks' Stealth Leap: "If a Blade Dancer is engaged when starting it starts to leap, that Blade Dancer it does not take any leaving engagement attacks."

We noticed that missing word a few weeks after release but never ninja’d it’s in. As for the last sentence, we used this construction because both are clearly gendered but one is male and one female.

Right, I realized that. I'm just saying, if word wrap becomes a problem then there is a shorter way to accommodate both sexes while also hewing closer to the original Shaolin wording.

What exactly are Xoderans, and what’s some of the background on them?

These guys are quite hard to come by aren't they? I'm glad I was able to 3D print some of them so I can finally get them on the board because they look like a lot of fun. Any idea why Wizkids Pathfinder minis become impossible to find a year after release yet WotC D&D minis from two decades ago are still in stock on every site?

I was able to scrape together 5 pairs, but it was not cheap and took tons of looking. I keep an eye out for a couple more sets, but they are impossible to find. I have printed the proxies to fill in what I need and they work great. so glad for the 3d printing community!!
