ROCKET AND GROOT
Before Groot's move action, you may choose an adjacent allied Rocket Raccoon that is unengaged. After the move action, place the chosen figure adjacent to Groot. When determining height advantage between an adjacent allied Rocket Raccoon and a non-flying figure, add 8 levels to Rocket Raccoon’s elevation.

ENTANGLING ROOTS
Once per round, when a Small or Medium enemy in clear sight moves onto or over a space within 5 spaces of Groot, you may stop that figure's movement and it cannot use Flying until the end of your next turn.

RAGTAG PROTECTION
If an ally in the Guardians of the Galaxy faction within 5 clear spaces of Groot would take 1+ wounds, you may ignore 1 wound inflicted on that figure. If you do, Groot takes 1 wound of the same damage type as the ignored wound.

Re: Groot (Design Phase)

Welcome to C3G 2.0's first public design! We wanted to give everybody out there an idea of how C3G designs are run today.

This is intended to be a new Groot design, not a translation of the original C3G one. Meaning that design could still pop up in some form or another in the future!

I still need to figure out class and some of the keyword/symbol stuff. Royal I could really take or leave - the Monarch of Planet X stuff isn't really relevant to modern (AKA post-DnA) Groot...he technically still is one afaik but I could definitely see leaving that tag for other incarnations of the character. Fire Weakness makes sense, but I want to make sure it's correct.

I also am wondering if it'd be healthy to set his Range number and the ranges on Entangle and Ragtag Protector to 3, so they all match. That may also involve adding a d20 roll or something to Entangle, but that seems fine by me.

Awesome design! Royal seems skippable as a keyword, and I like the idea of 3 range across the board, but I also think it's not too big a deal. 2s and 5s are common for his card.

For class, would something like defender or guardian work?

Re: Groot (Design Phase)

I'm thinking something like this could be cool, for example.
Quote:

ENTANGLING ROOTS 12
When a Small or Medium enemy moves onto or over a space within 3 spaces of Groot, you may roll a d20. On a 12+, stop that figure's movement and it cannot use Flying until the end of your next turn.
So you could yoink enemies out of the air and then combo into Rocket blasting them.

I'd probably go for Protector?

Giving Rocket high ground is pretty neat. I'm fine with leaving Royal off here.

I like it!

I have no strong opinion on all the ranges matching. Ragtag Protector definitely benefits from having a larger range - range 3 is pretty tight for a protection power. The Guardians already have some 5-space auras in Star Lord & Martinex, so range 5 is easy to remember in faction at least.

Either way, Entangling Roots stopping Flying is cool mechanically.

He's not doing "royalish" things here so I'd probably leave it off as well.

The entangling seems cool. Do we want to restrict him to exclusively Rocket or other Small figures too? fine either way just figured I'd mention it.

Yeah, I'm on board with cutting Royal. Fire Weakness makes sense to me. Good call on the Nature keyword. That could have some interesting uses.

No strong opinion on class.

Nature keyword is pretty awesome to include here. I agree that royal might not be a super necessary fit but fire weakness definitely is. Maybe the class should be protector because of what's going on in the card already?

Cool design. Could see him and Rocket matching classes. Some sort of Pirate/Outlaw/Scoundrel ish class could work for both of them. I dig the entangling power. With so many fliers in the game its nice to see a little bit of a counter. To make it a tad more of a counter you could do something like roll a damage die against a flier he pulls down, too. Encourages walking around him.

Would be good to have vs. Flame On 4, with the fire weakness here.

we would need a new Rocket then. Both Rockets have already been released with Pilot and Warden as classes.
