Re: Diplomacy
@scorpiusx
Hey you never responded the first time around so I'm mentioning you again just so I'm sure you've seen this and have a chance to join if you want. In other things, what is the status on this? Still trying to get more interest or are we ready to start forming a game? |
Re: Diplomacy
Just seeing where we are. I'm in the weeds a bit at work, so I've been slow to do things like this.
|
Re: Diplomacy
I'm still interested.
|
Re: Diplomacy
Ready whenever.
|
Re: Diplomacy
Just let me know when we are starting.

Re: Diplomacy
@Dad_Scaper
do you still have interest in getting this set up and playing?
I know I personally am still ready to play, but if this group isn't going to be starting I may just wade into the random players online and try to find a decent game. |
Re: Diplomacy
Well, I just wrapped up some CoN stuff so I might be able to get in on this. I don't know the game or have any idea what I'm doing, but if there's still an interest in recruiting and teaching new players then I'm willing to have a go.

Re: Diplomacy
I set up this thread to help the conversation along. I do love Diplomacy, but I don't have the burning need to play right now. I'll make some inquiries about what systems the game veterans are using to play online now. I encourage others to do the same, and we'll try to get a platform nailed down.
The more people who are interested in playing the better, because I don't expect that, when push comes to shove, all the listed names will sign up. edit: Apparently, the cool kids are using this platform, which is the heir to the "Ken Lowe judges" that dominated online Diplomacy a few years ago: http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/ I can GM, which would allow me to help people manage interacting with the judge. Please have a look at it and post your thoughts, or share a different platform you'd prefer. Don't worry about the technical aspects of interacting with the judge; it's quite simple once you're used to it, and you get used to it quickly. |
Re: Diplomacy
I don't know much about what platforms people prefer. I've looked over BGG for some discussion and this thread seems to be the best thus far: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/980...-online/page/1
The issue is that's pretty few poll respondents. So not sure how much value there is. Years ago I played with friends through webdiplmacy: http://webdiplomacy.net/ and also some through playdiplomacy: http://www.playdiplomacy.com/ Overall though it's a mess with how many different sites there are and the player base is therefore quite spread out. From my reading of the threads, these are my main takeaways: DPjudge: The Pros are that it supports many map and rules variants. Also tends to have a stable player base loaded with more veterans of the game and therefore has fewer dropouts that plague other sites. Cons are that the player base is fairly small now and the interface is fairly antiquated. webdiplomacy/playdiplomacy: Both these sites seem quite similar. Both have more modern interfaces for entering orders and displaying things that seem slightly more friendly to new players. Tends to have more active users. Downsides are that both platforms have more limited variants and options it would seem, along with quite a lot more dropouts from an inconsistent player base. In the end, I don't really care what platform is chosen though, I just would like to play a bit again. No matter what one we choose, it will take just a little bit to get used to it and figure it out as none of the sites are professionally designed and aren't that intuitive. So as you said DS, I'm sure we'd find any of them quite simple to use once we get used to it. Frankly if the old reliable diplomacy experts think that DPJudge is the best site, I'm fine just giving that a try. |
Re: Diplomacy
My preference is the DPJudge. I think it will help, given that most of the volunteers are new to the game, to have a neutral GM available for consultation about the rules and the interface.

Sounds good. I'm a bit rusty but I have WD40 for precisely this type of emergency.
