Just wanted to say I hope this thread creates some enthusiasum. However I am a trucker and can not alwase respond qwickly. I will check as soon as I get back but am gone for days at a time. So if I don't say anything about some briliant insight don't get discuraged.

You need to finish the card and give it a size and height. Then rewrite the Climb Walls ability using the size as it is cumbersome to read as written.
Straighten out the text on the left, fix the ability text so it isn't staggered, and increase the font a bit on the numbers for L/M/R/A/D. You may also think about increasing her size in the actual picture to make her look Huge because she looks a bit small right now. Poison Bite and Spider Enhancement work fine the way they are written. This is a good start. You just need to work out the rough edges. |

Huge Spider is better but the Climb Walls is still cumbersome. Maybe something like:
Climb Walls Huge Spider get free vertical movement of 6 levels when ascending and 12 levels when descending. After that, every 5 levels moved vertically count as a movement of 1. Huge Spider never takes fall damage. I don't know if that fits with what you're trying to accomplish but "even if it takes place in the middle of a move" is unnecessary. You can always move to a different level of elevation at any time during your move as long as you have enough movement left. You are just changing the parameters of how you count elevation movement for this character. The number font looks better as does the ability text. The text on the left though should all be the same font and right justified as much as you can. It makes it look cleaner. As for 'Lolth's Stings' (the Drow actually spell it Lloth) I recommend the following:

New Drow
I have been debating doing Dritst. While he is a drow he is not exactly of their faction. I was thinking of a card from another faction. If all of the figures are exactly the same I thought more detail and a bigger size might work out. I will make up another and see what I like. Any help on the wording is appreciated one thing I have always noticed is when someone is typing something the, well I know what I want to say thing kicks in. The thing I most appreciate about Heroscape is that the entire wording on the cards is perfectly clear. Most questions about ability are answered if you just read carefully. As to the no damage for falling I did not see this large a beast doing the cat like landing. The smaller spiders will however be able to jump/fall from great hights.
And as a horendus speller I got the spelling for lolth off of the cards and DnD sight. Felindar |
Hey Felinder you got some great ideas but your trying to remake the hypothetical wheel with Wall Climb.
Climb Walls When moving up vertical elevation the Huge Spider you may count every 5 levels as 1 movement space. When moving down elevation the huge spider may double it's height. Also when writing an abilities write them so a 10yr old can understand them ^_^. Hope this helped |
Here are a few notes on your customs. Not a bad start at all.
HUGE SPIDER How big is this guy? Will it fit on a single or 2-space base? Poison Bite is misspelled. This is a clone of Chomp. Some people feel that if you have a power that is a direct copy of an official power you should call it the same thing unless it messes up the flavor. This is an exact copy of Chomp and it is easier to just call it Chomp. CLIMB WALLS Instead of his normal move, Huge Spider may Climb Walls. Climb Walls has a move of 2. When counting spaces for a Huge Spider’s climbing movement, ignore elevations. A Huge Spider may climb up walls and over obstacles such as ruins and trees. A Huge Spider may not climb more than 25 levels up or down in a single turn. If a Huge Spider is engaged when he starts to climb, he takes any leaving engagement attacks. The green dot on the sillouette is tiny. LOLTH’S STINGS I don’t care for the name Lolth. The powers are a bit far from the names. Sneeky is not a word. Sneaky is. Control is misspelled in the bonding power. The range says 1 spaces. In time you will get better at the graphic elements. You might see the real cards has the text right justified on the stats on the far left of the card. Something to think about – Are you sure you want to start a new general – the Drow? I am torn about this with my Aliens… Whether they should get a regular General card or not… I don’t know. |

As far as making a new army, personally, I try and fit all the customs I do into the existing armies. Drow and all other followers of Lloth could easily be placed into the Utgar army and that is where I would place them. The Space Marine customs I'm doing are all going into the Vydar army because I felt they fit there the best even though it would have made sense to break them into their own army altogether.
