Re: [Pod 0] Glyph of Power - Design

See here for the beginning of discussion surrounding these new glyphs.

It's worth noting that whatever we decide here, the Glyph of Toughness should probably mirror it. Both glyphs have images of the "skulls" and "shields" of the AotP dice, so something involving that would be intuitive to new players. One idea that's been passed around is making Toughness an automatic shield once per turn against normal attacks (like HeroScape's own power Tough).

If we follow that route of logic, then Power would be a +1 automatic skull once per turn to a normal attack. That has the potential to be very powerful, especially with the right armies. It's not as squadscape-centric, but I still would anticipate this glyph being very powerful if we went that route.

I imagine it falls short of +1 Attack, +1 Common Attack, and possibly the other +Attack glyphs as well. But testing with Deadly units (Minions, Omnicrons, etc) would be most important. (To be clear, I'm on board.)

Yeah, I think that +1 automatic skull per turn might be equivalent in strength to the power of +1 attack die to a whole army in a VC meta (and it'll definitely be rough in our hero-centric box), where there are a lot more "controller units" taking multiple turns and pseudo-squad Common Heroes. Those things typically fall to normal Squadscape anyway, though, and I'm fine if this glyph isn't great for tournaments so long as it's fun to use.

Perhaps it allows one attack die to be rerolled?

Hmm. I like it well enough (and it would certainly be a lot more consistent across different types of armies that way if it only improves base consistency rather than a flat +1 skull), although that might be my inner love for the Deathstalkers talking.

Rerolling could work here as well, however it would 1) be much weaker and 2) preferably still mirror the Toughness glyph (which isn't living up to its name if it doesn't add shields against normal attacks ).

Re: [Pod 0] Glyph of Power - Design

Based off of the discussion about new glyph types, here's how I'd recommend changing the Glyph of Power, assuming these rules for the black glyphs in our box:
INVERSE GLYPHS
Inverse Glyphs have an active-side displaying their name and symbol and an inactive-side with the Inverse Glyph symbol on their back. While an Inverse Glyph's active-side is up, figures standing on that space grant the powers for that glyph as outlined below. While that Inverse Glyph's inactive-side is up, there are no special benefits for that space. When your figure lands on an active-side Inverse Glyph, it must stop. Note: A double-spaced figure must stop when its leading side moves onto an active-side Inverse Glyph.

At the beginning of each round of the game after the first one, flip every Inverse Glyph on the battlefield so that the opposite side is now up (so all active Inverse Glyphs become inactive, and all inactive ones become active). Scenarios will tell you what side to place each Inverse Glyph on to begin the game, or you can start them on either side when designing your own battlefields.

GLYPH OF POWER
Before rolling attack dice for any normal attack while a figure that you control is on this space and this glyph is active, you may add one automatic skull to your result. The Glyph of Power can only be activated once per turn.
This glyph has the potential to get absolutely nuts with the right hero-centric armies, like the 8th Infantry Pathfinders. I'd expect it to not see any competitive play, which I'm personally fine with.

Reworded similar to Glyph of Toughness.

GLYPH OF POWER
While a figure you control is on this glyph, before any figure you control rolls attack dice for a normal attack, you may add one automatic skull to whatever is rolled. The Glyph of Power can only be activated once per turn.

I like that rewording.
