Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
NAME = PHOBOS
SECRET IDENTITY = ALEXANDER AARON SPECIES = OLYMPIAN UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = WARRIOR PERSONALITY = FEARLESS SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 4 LIFE = 6 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 5 DEFENSE = 5 POINTS = 270 GOD OF FEAR After moving and before attacking, you may choose an opponent's figure within 4 clear sight spaces of Phobos and roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 8 or higher you may either: • have the player who controls the chosen figure move that figure up to 4 spaces. Figures moved by God of Fear may not be moved closer to Phobos and must end their movement unengaged; or • have the chosen figure roll 2 fewer defense dice when defending against an attack from Phobos this turn. Figures with a Fearless personality are not affected by God of Fear. GRASSCUTTER SPECIAL ATTACK Range 1. Attack 6. Figures defending against this special attack cannot use any special powers on any Army Card that adds additional defense dice or automatic shields. This special attack can only be used once per round. SUPER STRENGTH |
Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
Looks good.
Thematically, why does God of Fear come with a disengage in it? If you're running panicked, wouldn't you be more susceptible to leaving engagement attacks? I do understand why you'd want to limit it mechanically, though (i.e. for power balance). It seems odd thematically, though. Small agreement issues in the text of the special attack: GRASSCUTTER SPECIAL ATTACK Range 1. Attack 6. Figures defending against this special attack cannot use any special powers on their army cards that add additional defense dice or automatic shields. This special attack can only be used once per round. |
Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
Yea I can't remember my exact reasoning for that clause, but I'm sure it had to have something to do with power balance.

Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
Looks great. Grasscutter doesn't have any specifics powers from what I can remember, so negating defensive powers is as good as anything. Cool that it, like Godkiller, can only be used once per round.
The only thing I'm not a fan of is the second bullet of God of Fear. Making someone attack their ally seems more within Anger's purview than Fear's. If I were to suggest any power, maybe power negation? Or not let him be targeted by that figure for special powers? Just spitballing. I like the theme on the God of Fear being immune to fear-based powers, too. Any chance we could pull him down to Medium 4, though, since he's portrayed as being pretty young? I don't have the figure to check. |
Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
For God of Fear I kinda imagine him causing them to panic and cause harm to someone near them, it's not like an attack just accidental harm.

Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
Looks fine with the comments Bats & Johnny have put forward. I don't know the character so can't provide too much more here.
PS: you don't need to mess with the links that are in the OP template. Leave them as they are so that it's simple to update when it comes time to add the cards. |
Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
I think this was from an old template. I've had this design sitting around for ages. I'll be making the updates as soon as the breathing period is up.

Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
I can justify Fear causing auto-wounds, but it's not something we've really done or is iconicly "fear-ish." I think we should keep lines pretty clear there, but I'll accept it if I'm alone in that.

Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
I wouldn't mind simplifying to two options and making it either -3 defense or making them move (and not having disengage in there). That'd make him pretty tough, though - not sure what point range you're looking for.
Edit: Though if you're moving the affected figure rather than placing it, it might be better as a "take temporary control" type of power, in which case not giving them disengage wouldn't even be a problem in terms of game balance unless you're playing with 3+ players. |
Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
I was thinking 2 options might be better after Johnny's comment. I could see him being a 250-300 point figure. He is a god.
|
Re: The Book of Phobos: Design Phase
Then I think taking out the disengage and going -3 defense should work just fine.
