Lurk

I do a fair chunk of lurking on this thread but given that most of my best scape ideas tend to be fictional characters it might not be a terrible idea for me to join the TREX bandwagon. I tend to comment more the more I know about a character however.

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread

By all means all. If you're interested, start posting. If you don't know the character, your input may still have value. You may still understand mechanics and power levels, you may have understanding based on the context of our previous comments; you may have wiki'd the character in question. In short, the more the merrier.

Current version of Dexter reads:
Character Name: Dexter Morgan
Name of TV Show: Dexter
Genre: Crime Drama
Faction: Valkril

Race: Human
Type: Unique Hero
Class: Serial Killer
Personality: Precise
Size: 5

Life: 4
Move: 5
Range: 1
Attack: 3
Defense: 3

BLOOD SPLATTER ANALYST
If any figures were wounded last turn, instead of taking this turn normally with Dexter Morgan, you may take a turn with any Lawman hero or Lawmen squad you control. If a figure was destroyed last turn, Dexter Morgan and Lawmen figures you control will not take any leaving engagement attacks.

CODE OF HARRY
* Dexter Morgan can move through all figures.
* Dexter Morgan can add 3 to his Attack value when attacking Utgar figures.
* Dexter Morgan can't attack if he is adjacent to more than one figure.

Points: 50

Actually, this is a very good time to add some new members, as I have decided to step away from this project. It's been fun, but I just don't have the time with RL (work especially) and the time I need to spend on HoSS. Adding TREX and Dysole would more than make up for my absence (way, way more).

Once you decide who will be your new card guru, I would be happy to forward the MSE files if it be helpful. The Sortable Index is available in the Downloads section. Feel free to have someone take over the Display thread as well.

MSE

I'm pretty handy with it although I'm still uncertain on how to edit directly in MSE.

I don't do anything with MSE but I am very proficient with Photoshop. I work quite a bit, but am getting a couple weekends off here and there as of lately.

I have no problem making the cards, however they wont be quite as official looking as mac's. I do not have the font that is on the Official Cards. Here is an example of one of the cards I have made.
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...pst8wrq282.jpg

If this does not bother anyone then all I will need mac to send me is the HoF logo that we put on the cards.

Edit: And before you judge, I made this with my daughters in mind :p

Here is the list from the OP:
@Balantai
@Lamaclown
@JC McMinis
Taeblewalker
@mac122
@Machineking
@McHotcakes
@Confred

On that list, I'm pretty sure Balantai and Llamaclown are not active. And mac is stepping down. So that means we can add
@TREX and @Dysole pretty easily.

I propose a new order:
@JC McMinis
@TREX
@Dysole
Taeblewalker
@Machineking
@McHotcakes
@Confred

Let me know if there are any perceived problems with that order. Anyone in this new rotation who decides they aren't interested anymore, speak up now.

JC McMinis May 5th, 2015 06:53 PM

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread

I am fine with the new order. Is everyone ok with me taking over the making of the cards? Oh and mac if you are still watching this do you have a Valkrill blank card that does not have the fog where the picture goes...because I do not.

I just PM'd JC. I'll work with him to transfer any files he needs to create the cards.

Awesome, thanks guys. Its too bad your stepping down from this @mac122 , But I'll still get to enjoy your work from HOSS. This should be really fun. And if you do need any help making the cards, I've made quite a few of them over the years in Photoshop.

Ok have figured everything out for making the cards, I would like to put one other thing to the rest of the group for a vote. How about we make the figure I posted above the official figure for the hit zone as it is a little more readily available than the Disney one?

Corrections:
Heart's Desire : ... on this card ..
Reserved Bullet: Reserved Bullet Special Attack can be used to attack only the chosen figure...

Sorry, two more edits. (I was on my phone last night and missed these)

Reserved Bullet Special Attack: chosen hero
> "hero" and "squad" and such aren't capitalized. Think of Unique Hero has a proper noun while hero isn't.

Parley: ...the hero before the Parley (you had Parey)

Bro-Tip: When a card is voted in, there is usually a post that has the complete text of the card that the card designer may simply copy and paste.

Dexter is at the voting stage.

I know it was brought up earlier but did we want Dexter to gain attack when attacking Valkrill as well? I know Dexter is Valkrill but he sees himself as evil destroying evil, and I think Valkrill certainly qualifies as evil.

TREX May 8th, 2015 12:28 PM

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread

@McHotcakes has a good point on the Valkrill killing Valkrill thing. Unless you were going for Dexter taking out the Utgar(Bad Guy)Trash, but giving the other guys like him(Valkrill) a chance to be like him. Also on the Code of Harry-* Dexter Morgan can't attack if he is adjacent to more than one figure. Is that enemy figure or all figures. If it is all figures that would make sense as he wouldn't kill figures with his good guy buddies around.
EDIT: I also see the Parey on the Jack sparrow card, third line from the bottom.

Dysole May 8th, 2015 12:34 PM

Evil Tonight

Having never seen the show Valkrill still feels weird but a bonus against Valkrill feels warranted.

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread

In Parley, there's extra verbiage that needs to be trimmed.

"At the end of the turn control of the chosen hero returns to the control of the player who controlled the hero before the Parley."

You don't return control to the control of a player. ;)

Trex is correct. Dexter doesn't really care if a figure is evil or not as long as they're not being "bad". Not extending the bonus to vs Valkril is an important part of Dexter's thematic flavor.
Trex is also correct about his interpretation of Dexter's adjacency limitation. Dexter doesn't want to kill around his friends and even when around only baddies, he wants to be careful in choosing his time and place.

As for Captain Jack, here is text for an easy copy pasta:

HEART'S DESIRE
At the start the game, place 1 Treasure Glyph of Jack's Compass on this card.

RESERVED BULLET SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 5. Attack 6.
At the start of the game choose a Unique Hero. Reserved Bullet Special Attack can be used to attack only the chosen hero and only once per game.

PARLEY 12
If an opponent reveals a numbered order marker on the Army Card of any figure within 4 clear sight spaces of Captain Jack, you may immediately choose that figure to Parley. Roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 12 or higher, the turn ends. If the chosen figure is a hero figure and you roll a 20 or higher, instead of ending the turn, take temporary control of the chosen hero and take the turn with the chosen hero. At the end of the turn, control of the chosen hero returns to the player who controlled the hero before the Parley. All order markers that were on the chosen hero's card will stay on the card.
