Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I know its my turn to nominate, but I just noticed something on the Blobs. For Ravenous Growth did we want the order markers, and other markers, of The Blob to move to The Indescribable Blob's Army Card after it destroys a figure?
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I would think so. What's the simplest, shortest way to express that?

What does C3G do on Jean Grey/Phoenix/Dark Phoenix?
If I understand the Phoenix cards correctly, you switch the figures, but OM's do not move. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Perhaps the blob is too busy digesting its meal to make use of those order markers.

Well, the Phoenix is a bit different though. The switch is made when the first figure is destroyed. Now that I'm thinking about it, it makes more thematic sense for the Blob's OM's to transfer.

Ravenous Growth Whenever The Blob destroys a figure, you may immediately remove this figure from the battlefield and replace it with The Indescribable Blob. Place all unrevealed Order Markers on this card on The Indescribable Blob's Army Card. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Works for me and we can do the same for going from indescribable blob to indestructable blob.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
As long as it fits on the card I'm fine with it.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
So here are the cards with the updating wording. I should point out that I hastily put these together, so Im sure that Mac would find a way to make things look a little tighter.
The Blob http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...26/THEBLOB.jpg The Indescribable Blob http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...IBABLEBLOB.jpg The Indestructible Blob http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...CTABLEBLOB.jpg I think it looks fine and the updated wording doesn't cramp up the text too much. Also I copy pasted Engulf on The Indestructible Blob so it is the wrong name in the power :duh: |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Looks good!
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Yup.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Ok so with that are we ready to be moving on?
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Sure. I'll get the revised cards posted in the Display thread later today or tomorrow.

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Ok so I'm gonna go ahead and nominate
http://s1.hubimg.com/u/588092_f520.jpg Captain Jack Sparrow Pirates of the Caribbean Movie Vydar or Aquilla Here's a mini I found http://www.yourwdwstore.net/thumbnai...axx=300&maxy=0 Human Unique Hero Pirate Tricky Life 4 Move 5 Range 1 Attack 3 Defense 3 Power Ideas RESERVED BULLET Special Attack Range 5. Attack 7. At the start of the game chose a unique hero an opponent controls. Jack Sparrow may only use this attack against that hero, and may only use it once per game. After Jack Sparrow uses this attack, or the chosen hero is destroyed increase Jack's range by 4 until the end of the game. Cause For Confusion At the start of every round, if you win initiative, then you may choose any figure an opponent controls within 4 clear sight spaces of Jack Sparrow. You may move any Order Marker from that figure's Army Card to any other Army Card that that opponent controls. You may not reveal the Order Marker when moving it. Also since he's a pirate I figured we could re-use the Treasure Hunter power from the Indiana Jones custom, or something similar. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Nice choice. This was on my list of possibilities.
How about, instead of Treasure Hunter, something like PARLAY When Captain Jack Sparrow is targeted for an attack, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll an X or higher, the attacking figure's turn ends immediately. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I personally prefer Parlay to Treasure Hunter as just like the reserved bullet it was one of the defining jokes of the first movie.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Nice choice, I think Aquilla is the better General choice. I also agree with the parlay instead of treasure hunter.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I'm liking the Parlay idea.
What do guys think of the other powers, and the general? JC says Aquilla, but I'm still 50/50 between Aquilla and Vydar. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I like Aquilla.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
His "shifting loyalties" and scheming go well with the Tricky figures of Vydar, but I just don't see CJS fitting in with that group. Jack would look weird going into battle with the Krav, Microcorp, Gorillinators, etc. The Nakitas would just kill him themselves.
I don't have a compelling reason, but given the choice of Vydar or Aquilla, I'd put him in Aquilla. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Aquilla is good...she's kinda magic-y like Jack's compass and whatnot.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Aquilla it is then
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I also think Aquilla is a good choice.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
The main reason I felt Aquilla for him was he kind of has a down to earth philosophy and attitude. He's very much a nature man, a go where the wind will take him, likes the wide open spaces kind of attitude. Many times in the series you see him at odds with Trading companies and such that represent the relentless march of progress and technology. I think of the quote he has in the first movie about ships needing a keel and sails and so forth, but "freedom, that's what a ship really is!"
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I think an attack for 7 is too much for a pistol, I understand wanting to make it special since its a very restricted special attack. But it is still a pistol. 5-6 would be the max for a pistol IMO.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I'm not quite sure why his range goes up after he uses his special bullet. I would think it's a one shot pistol. Or perhaps his range should be 5 to begin with.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I kind of read it that after the special attack he begins using his pistol freely as he has already used the reserved shot. Whereas before that point the pistol was only for the specific person.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Quote:
Of course in the sequels, after he already fired his reserved bullet, he uses his pistol all of the time. Thus making it a normal attack, thus the increase in his range. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Ok. I'll buy that.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I re-watched the first movie in honor of this nomination.
Parlay only works on Pirates, everybody else ignores it, especially Lawmen. There is also a condition of Parlay. It grants invulnerability and escort to leader to where terms are negotiated and then the parlay is over. It shouldn't be done every time, but it can be done more than once. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Yeah, and Elizabeth is known for it a lot more than Jack is. It's pretty much her thing in the first movie to just yell out parlay when someone was about to hurt her.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Parlay
Informal. to use (one's money, talent, or other assets) to achieve a desired objective Parley 1. a discussion or conference. 2. an informal conference between enemies under a truce, especially to discuss terms, conditions of surrender, etc. verb (used without object), parleyed, parleying. 3. to hold an informal conference with an enemy under a truce, as between active hostilities. 4. to speak, talk, or confer. The first spelling fits as Jack "parlays" what he knows of Barbossa, the treasure, Will's love for Elizabeth, etc to gain an advantage. I think the second spelling is what word they are actually using in the movie. Jack may have only invoked his Right of Parley once in the movie, but he continuously parleys to distract his opponents and advance his goals. Parley is thematic to the movie source and fits the character of Jack Sparrow, er, Captain Jack Sparrow. :2cents: |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
A parley ability could be like the power on the C3G Beast card. I believe it's called Diplomacy. It lets him remove an order marker instead of attacking, iirc.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
What about of instead of Parley we give him some sort of ability relating to his compass?

However I am more than open for more suggestions on how to use the compass idea. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I'm fine for Parlay being a d-20 invulnerability roll that gets a +mod when dealing with Pirates.
For example, changing nothing else: PARLAY When Captain Jack Sparrow is targeted for an attack by an opponent's figure, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll an X or higher, the attacking figure's turn ends immediately. If the attacking figure is a Pirate, add 5 to your roll. -- The reason why I like Parlay as a special power is because a primary attribute of Captain Jack Sparrow should be to be able to get out of combat via noncombat means. .. I prefer Parlay over creating chaos. ... I watched the movie thinking, "Why would a general summon Captain Jack Sparrow?" It's not for his fighting prowess, even though he isn't a slouch in that area. He is determined and thinks outside the box. He's for reaching goals. He (easily) gets out of trouble, often getting closer to his objective in the process. He manipulates enemies and allies alike as if pawns or decoys. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Perhaps we could scrap Cause for Confusion and replace it with a modified version of Parley.
So how about Parley Whenever an opponent reveals an order marker on a figure within clear sight of Jack Sparrow you may roll the 20 sided die. If you roll a 13-19 that figure's turn immediately ends. If you roll a 20 then you may take temporary control of that figure and all figures on that figure's army card. Immediately take a turn with the chosen figure(s). At the end of that turn, control of the chosen figure(s) returns to the player who controlled the figure(s) before Parley. All Order Markers that were on the chosen figure's card will stay on the card. This way it not only represents Jack's ability to talk his way out of danger, but also his ability to manipulate his enemy to do what he wants. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
That actually sounds pretty good.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I agree
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
So now that it seems we are okay with this version of Parley what did you guys think of JC's idea of making ability relating to Jack's compass?
|

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
The compass always pointed to the "thing" that Jack most wanted at the time. It would make sense that it be limited to treasure glyphs.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
A general would draft Captain Jack Sparrow due to his unerring drive to reach his objective.
TREASURE COMPASS v1 Captain Jack Sparrow may add 3 to his Move value as long as he is unengaged prior to moving. Captain Jack Sparrow must be able to end his move on a Glyph in order to use Treasure Compass. TREASURE COMPASS v2 Captain Jack Sparrow may add 3 to his Move value as long as he is unengaged prior to moving. If Captain Jack Sparrow uses Treasure Compass, he's never attacked for leaving an engagement and must end his move on a Glyph. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I like Volume 1 personally.
|
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
The like the first better, I actually have a pirate figure that I did with a treasure map ability with the exact same wording.

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Hey I remember that custom from when I first joined the site :D
Anyway here is a quick mock-up of the card so far. http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/...ACKSPARROW.jpg As you can see its already pretty crowded. So I don't know if we could add a third power without cramping up the text too much. Would you guys consider turning Jack's Compass into a Treasure Glyph? If not I don't mind leaving Jack with just the two powers. |
