Some quick thoughts.
I'm not sure how I feel about having two powers so similarly named on the same card. Could we maybe change Jumping special attack to Stomp, or something along those lines?

I also think we could bump his attack up to 1. That way he at least has an option to normal attack.

All he does is jump XD
I think that's what makes the figure special. Playing Mario is like a mini game within a game and my mental playthroughs we're awesome

If this was Super Smash Brothers version, that would be different

^ this.

Also, that artwork would work, anything related directly to the original game would be preferred.

That artwork is from the European version of the original Super Mario Bros. from the NES. I prefer it to the pixilated image from the American version. Also a note above about how in the text it refers to him as Super Mario, but at the top of the card it's just Mario. I believe we should change the text. Other than the title of the game he is never referred to as Super Mario. In the actual game up by the life bar it just says Mario. Also when you rescue a toad/the princess they just call him Mario.

I think "Super Mario" is an iconic name.
In this version, he starts in his super form: +1 life, doesn't die immediately.
The picture is especially good, because he is holding a super mushroom to represent this.

==

JUMPING SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 3 Special. Attack 5.
Choose a figure within 3 clear sight spaces of Super Mario whose base is not higher or lower than 5 levels from the base of Super Mario to attack. If Super Mario’s Jumping Special Attack destroys the figure, immediately replace it with Super Mario. If Super Mario doesn’t destroy the figure, he receives 1 wound and must be placed on an empty space adjacent to the figure. If Super Mario can't be placed, destroy him.

JUMP 5
Instead of moving normally, Super Mario may Jump. Jump has a move of 3. When counting spaces for Jump, ignore elevations of up to 5. Super Mario may jump over water without stopping, jump over figures without becoming engaged, and jump over obstacles such as ruins. After destroying a figure with his Jumping Special Attack, Super Mario may use Jump 5.

MUSHROOM POWER
The most wounds Super Mario may take from an attack or special power is one. If Super Mario is destroyed and has no wounds on his Army Card, before removing his figure from the battlefield, place a wound on his Army Card, move him to any adjacent empty space, and he isn’t destroyed. If Super Mario has any wounds on his Army Card, subtract 2 from his height and he counts as size small.

Purple I use for optional* suggestions* and unsure changes
Blue I use for forsure changes
Red I use for needed changes

Sorry I forgot to post my reply. After using him against a few of the ROTV units, I think he has some great potential in the original game. He's not super powerful but not pathetic and this fits the character. His mushroom power is unique and fun to use. I personally think we should move on to finding a figure and getting the wording finalized(is it?).

Barry Allen, review sounds like exactly what I (we) were looking for.
Did he feel right?
Were any powers in practice awkward?
Were the powers relevant and thematic?

Remaining steps.
1) Finalize/streamline wording
2) finalize power level/playtest feedback
3) figure selection
4) finalize card art

Playtest 1
vs. Sahuagin Raider - Mario handedly
vs. Tarn Viking Warriors - Tarn handedly, but good observations:

I like Mario's mobility
I also like his Jump 5 being so low - it was good not jumping over trees.
I like being able to Jump 5 after a successful Jumping Special Attack.I felt like I also wanted to Jumping Special Attack again after success - but I understand keeping the wording down on an already wordy character - and double attacks would certainly be Points considering - but it is worth considering.
I also liked the humbling effect of 'losing super,' of missing a JSA

:I don't want people thinking he's both

Points 50 (even after upgrade)

Sorry I haven't piped in for a bit. Been busy getting ready for my daughters graduation. After tomorrow, that will be all done with that.

Points-wise: he might be a bit iffy. But the idea that he could jump attack again after successfully doing it once is an idea I've been juggling around myself over the last few days, glad to see this! I think this could easily be his final version as we haven't been able to find any odd wording, depending on what everyone else says, I think we could be finished here. The wording and theme and everything looks great to me. I like the idea of him continuing to jump on heads all around the board. In the games, he is definitely a squad killer and this change allows him to do the same in HS.

Playtest 2

vs Arkmer is lol. Elf won, but I feel Mario had edge.
Next: the beast himself: Brave Arrow - Again Mario kills himself.

Verdict. He's a mobile glass cannon that has a powerful, seemingly undercosted, special attack, but he hurts himself and that's huge.

If anything he is cheaper than 50 POINTS, but his potential justifies being overpriced on average.
He's fun and thematic and feels right.

I approve wording
I approve stats
I approve powers
I approve sidebar
I approve flavor
I approve power-level

All we need to do is get an official card up and vote
