Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Ok seeing as how for my 1st submission I went video game (Simon Belmont) and my second I went literature (Tanis Half-Elven) this time I am going tv series.
Duncan MacLeod http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncan_Macleod TV Series/Film I have a version of him made but would like to submit it here for tweaking and also thought he would be a fine addition to our Halls. Also need some help with mini ideas. I have looked but can't shem to find a figure in modern clothes holding a katana. I have thought of putting Alistair McDirks head on Agent Carry body. Thoughts. |

Nice choice. I used to watch that show. For powers, I'm thinking he'll need an ability to return to the battlefield after being destroyed, he is immortal after all. High defense, low life, with an easy d20 roll to return. Maybe if you roll a 1, he has "lost his head" and is gone for good? I'm also thinking he needs to get some sort of benefit from destroying unique heroes, The Quickening. At least wound removal and perhaps some way of using the special abilities of the recently deceased - take control of the card and use any special off the card?
Spoiler Alert!
Edit: The figure for this is tough. I've looked through about every Heroclix figure and Reaper Chronoscope. There might be a Star Wars human mini that could be modded. Using Carr's body would be a good start, though I don't think I'd use Alistair MacDirk's head - too pricey. Maybe the head from the Caucasian Krav would work? |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
For the Highlander thing to work, we really need more than one Immortal. The Quickening should only relate to other Immortals, perhaps within 3 clear sight spaces. It should affect the character while both are still alive, to be consistent with the movie and the series.
I believe that to make him work we will need to do what we did for Dr. DoLittle and make a whole group of units. Duncan Conner Ramirez The Kurghan Castigar At least three of them. |

Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
Well I was looking at one of our other units. Corwin has abilities that affect other members of his race and we have yet to develop them. Let us get Duncan done and then we could perhaps do others later. I would like to do several of them. Xavier St.Cloud comes to mind. They would all have the Immortal and Quickening ability. But each would have a third ability that is more towards that individual immortals character.
Immortal Just like mac posed above. But with this added to he end. This power does not work if Duncan was destroyed by another immortal. The Quickening When Duncan MacLeod destroys another figure that is immortal. Place that figure on this army card. Add one die to both Duncan's attack and defense for each figure on this card up to a maximum of 3 dice. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
I actually like the unique hero bit from Mac's version of Quickening
And you know, since this is Valhalla, everyone is imortal. Characters aren't killed, they're destroyed. Just a thought. As for Duncan's third ability, maybe something that allows him to defend his allies? It could ake him switch places with an adjacent friendly figure that recieved wounds. Finally, I think he shoud be Champion. That way, he won't be lonely untill more Immortal arrive in Valhalla. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
True everyone in valhalla is immortal. But here we are dealing with immortal as a race. That is why I wanted to do quickening the way I did. How about this for his third ability.
Defending the Weak When any common squad or hero adjacent to Duncan MacLeod would take a wind roll the 20 sided die. If you roll a 13 or higher immediately switch Duncan with the figure that would recieve the wounds and roll Duncsns'd defense dice. Figures moved by Defending the weak do not take leaving engagement attacks. |

As for immortals as race, I think Duncan should be a human, and have the immortal ability, which would be referenced by the Quickening and by the Immortal ability itself. That way, if he is a champion, he'll bond with my Scotsmen :p. If he's not going to be a champion, then I don't care about his race, although I do think the MacDirks need another Scottish champion to lead them into battle. |
Re: Heroes of Fiction: Design Thread
If the Hulk can be Human, then why not Duncan?

Some thoughts on Duncan MacLeod
THE SOURCE Begin the game with X green Source Markers on this card. At the start of the game, choose any X unique heroes and place a Source Marker on their Army Card. Figures with a Source Marker gain the special powers of The Quickening and Immortal. THE QUICKENING When Duncan MacLeod destroys a unique hero with the class of Immortal or with a Source Marker, take control of that hero's Army Card. For the duration of the game, Duncan MacLeod may use any special attack on any Army Card controlled using The Quickening. IMMORTAL Y At the start of each of your turns after Duncan Macleod has been destroyed, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a Y or higher, immediately place Duncan Macleod on any empty space and remove all Wound Markers on this card. Duncan MacLeod may not be placed adjacent to any figure. |

When Duncan Macleod receives enough wounds to be destroyed, if his attacker is an immortal remove him immediately from the game, otherwise, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a Y or higher, immediately remove all Wound Markers on Duncan Macleod. |

As I really want Duncan to be a Human Champion, how about: THE QUICKENING When Duncan MacLeod destroys a unique hero with the Immortal Y special power, take control of that hero's Army Card. For the duration of the game, Duncan MacLeod may use any special attack on any Army Card controlled using The Quickening. Since figures with source markers has the special power of Immortal Y, they would be affected. |
