It never left.
I cannot speak to how important Renegade's success is to any given 'Scaper. I can only speak for myself, and hope that my perspective is helpful.
I have been on this site since 2008. I have been fortunate enough to have a regular group of guys to play with - The New York City Gang Of Four. I enjoy designing units. C3V/SoV units are "official" at our table. One of my designs, Kha, was inducted into the SoV.
I am a Martial Artist (4th degree Black Belt in Karate), a Singer (Classical, Church, Musical Theater, Caberet, And Jazz), and have read tons of Historical Fiction, Fantasy, and Science Fiction novels - all of which inform my creative imagination. To me, designing a unit for Heroscape is an art very much like Jazz. The soloist creates within a cooperative context. Improvisation and pushing the creative envelope are encouraged, but the soloist is always listening and his version...

Well met!
Every once in a while, I go off the deep end with custom creation. I enjoy the process of refining them, such that they add something unique, fun, and worthy of being SoV candidates. Once, I succeeded in having one inducted.
Lately, I have been working on creating custom heroes from Pathfinder sculpts. Thanks to @mac122 for these beautiful cards!
Other than her modified Double Attack - her Hand Cannon, and her stats, Captain Xue is barely recognizable as compared to her Tricky Captain or Rogue origins.

The original idea I had for Rieka the Wolf was that she would be a Wolf in addition to being Human. That power is gone, but her wolfishness remains.

Ravenwolf was originally a disgraced Warlord and Einar, with Martial La Hire's stats as both are versions of the Iconic Hero, Valerios....

This is no worse than Mika Connour's Shadow Ambush or Othkurik's Lurking Ambush. How about making it terrain specific:
Braced Shot
If Jedidiah Mulroney starts his turn unengaged and adjacent to [one or more of the following: Evergreen, Ruins, Battlements, Jungle Bush, Palm Tree], you may reveal the X Order Marker on this card to use Braced Shot. If you do, you may roll 4 additional attack dice.

Super excited to be testing Captain Xue at our next Gang gathering on January 17th. In anticipation of playing two games, I'll be fielding the following two armies in a 600 point, themed scenario of chas' design:
Women Only
150 WoA x 3
140 Eltahale
125 Captain Xue
60 Elaria the Pale
35 Seleena
600 points, 13 spaces
Soldiers, Warriors and Their Leaders

125 Captain Xue
120 Venoc Warlord

595 points, 21 spaces
We'll be looking at how she plays, how much tweaking, if any, Captain Xue's Edge might merit, and, of course, what would be the best price for her. I'm also wondering if eschewing Elaria the Pale with her is ever a good idea, but the second army's theme requires it. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

If you roll 18-19, the defending figure receives 3 wounds.
If you roll a 20 or higher, the defending figure receives 6 wounds.
