I went to see Up the other day and I was greatly impressed by this movie. Up had the right blend of comedy, action, drama, and suspense, all packaged with beautiful graphics great characters and excellent voice acting. It was even in 3-D, though I saw it in 2-D. The movie had major heart, something you don't really see in today's movies: the first part of the movie almost brought me to tears and by the end of the movie I was again almost in tears of deep satisfaction and bliss. I highly recommend this movie if you want your faith restored in Hollywood.

I went to see Transformers: Rise of the Fallen a few days ago, and I began to realize something: Today's blockbuster action movies are starting to become rather stale. Transformers 2, Wolverine, Terminator: Salvation, were all disappointments, with over saturated CGI, recycled plots, and worn out acting.
Where are the great original blockbusters like Terminator, Terminator 2, even T3, Back to the Future, The Matrix, Sin City, and 300? Blockbusters today seem to be like fireworks: great to watch but once they're over that's it. The great movies are those that make you talk about them long after you leave the theatre. They provoke more emotions than oooooh and aaaaaaah. Where are the tear wrenching movies? Where are the edge of your seat thrillers? I'm still waiting for one this year.
300 was in 2007, so.... but I definately think that CGI is overused way too much. Like in Indiana Jones. Why not take a lesson from the first 3? People like stuff that looks real!
I think you missed the point of how the CGI was used in 300, ABOM. The visual feel of the movie (like the movies for Sin City and then later The Spirit) is to create the same look as the Graphic Novels had...and I think it was done brilliantly in all 3...even though sadly...The Spirit wasn't even close to a good movie.
Now take the HBO series Spartacus for example (well maybe you shouldn't watch it if you are under 18 due to the graphic sexual parts) but they use the same CGI technology in it for the fight sequences and it just doesn't fit the way it does in 300.
