Okay, so my new thing this week is girls on YouTube with Ukeleles. There is a surprisingly robust selection. Here's my Top 3:
Number Three:
Some random Irish girl singing OutKast's "Hey Ya". This reminds me a lot of that one guy who does soft, lounge covers for all sorts of songs. I just wish she hadn't skipped "shake it like a Polaroid picture"...
Number Two:
Garfunkel and Oates! I chose "Worst Song Medley" because it's probably the least offensive of their songs... And the only reason this is in number Two instead of Number One is because the Uke is only half the duo. These girls are hilarious, but totally foul, so be prepared should you decide to follow up with any of their other works.
And Number One!
Molly Lewis playing Brittney Spears' "Toxic" at w00tstock.
This young lady is awesome! She's got just tons of super content on The Tubes, and I have official geeklove...

I am not an overly dramatic person by nature, but I think I came very close to dying tonight.
I was driving home from a night of gaming around 1:40 or so. I was more or less on auto-pilot thinking about this game design I have kicking around in my head.
I was in the far-left lane of I-30, a 3 lane highway coming out of Dallas. It was more or less empty compared to the normal traffic of the day. So I'm plugging along and suddenly, the car in front of me quickly jerked to the right - revealing an oncoming set of headlights.
I do not remember making conscious, or active decisions for the next ten seconds. I flew to the right to get out of the car's way, and lost control of the car. I began to skid sideways, and ended up rotating about 180° - to find myself facing an on-coming semi truck.
That truck also swerved to his right, and I had just enough time to whip my car back around in the correct direction and get to the side of the road....

I'm a bit of a smartass, which will come as no surprise to any of you who know me in real life. And I usually do a pretty good job of staying socially appropriate, but every once in a while I'll make a bad judgment call. Fortunately, this one backfired on me instead of someone else, but talk about awkward!
There's a new employee at my work, and she and I were talking and getting aquainted, etc. The conversation turned to kids and she asked about mine.
Her: So, you have kids, then?
Me: Yeah, I have two boys.
Her: Oh, wow. I just have one son, and he wears me out, how do you do it?
Me: Well, I'm a borderline alcoholic, so that helps.
Her: ...
Me: I'm, uh, I'm just kidding.
Her: *relieved* Oh! Oh, okay!
Me: *pushing my luck again* Yeah, CPS didn't like that joke either.
Her: Oh, don't even get me started on CPS. Those guys are no friends of mine!

So we get a call yesterday from a friend of my wife's. I don't know her that well, but we've met and hung out maybe half a dozen times. She's pretty cool, a little dizty, but she's fun and seems like a pretty decent person. So she calls us up and says "Hey, I'm going to be in your area tomorrow visiting someone, could I maybe swing by to see you guys?" So we say, yeah, sure, come on over whenever we'll be there all day.
So today she shows up with some guy we've never met. She introduces him as her friend Dan or whatever his name was and we just start talking and hanging out. We show this guy around our place since he's never been there and talk for about twenty minutes or so. So then my wife asks her how her new job is going (she was recently laid off from a long-term position a few months ago) and she says "Oh, right, well I wanted to talk to you guys about that...Can we clear off the table?" and she start to spread out a couple folders, and the...

With National Heroscape just a week and a half away, there's lots of excitement in the air. Recently there was a little controversy about Wizards and their support (or lack thereof) of the event itself. Coming off of a less than impressive Gencon presence, Wizards initial reaction to not offer any sort of support for NHSD left a bad taste in many mouths.
Fortunately, things change. And now Wizards is going to support NHSD in two very important ways. There will be prizes, Skahens mostly, but there is another kind of support - DCI Sanctioning.
I was registered with DCI for a number of years when I played Magic: The Gathering, and when I heard Wizards was going to put Heroscape into the program, I got very excited. DCI, for those that aren't already familiar, is a method by which event participants can register themselves and enter into a ranking system based on tournament results. It's a great way to see where you stand in your region, and it also lets you...
