It seems these three things set the stage for the robbery:

1) I had just baked banana muffins

2) I had been gluing figures and left them to dry on the dryer in the laundry room beside the window

3) It looked like no one was home even in the middle of the day

Now letís examine these issues one at a time.

I used to bake a lot and am known for my baking skills. (yes, itís a skill set; if you donít believe it, thatís because youíve never tasted anything that was made by a real baker)

When my kids were smaller I baked twice a week: cookies, cakes, muffins. But then Iíd leave to go to work and when I came back half to three-quarters of the baked goods would be missing. Iíd question the kids and they promised that none of them had eaten anything. So it was obvious that someone was breaking in and taking the cookies. Shocking, but it must be true because my children wouldnít lie.

We have been playing the same Scape game for more than a year now. It's a variant on our ďbig gameĒ idea and obviously itís the biggest game yet.

Our starting map was huge and unexplored. Factions had to explore squares and were likely to find outposts or bandits or ruins. If you found an outpost the 20d determined which faction it belonged to. We have almost 30 factions in this game. The diplomacy is so complicated we have southern gnolls fighting against a northern alliance which also contains gnolls.

our big game tracking board 3' X 3'

A lot of the battles are unequal points. Last night we had a huge fight that had been building for weeks.

The south western alliance is led by the Kingdom of Arc, with their allies Jandar, Vydar and Magmar. They had slowly been invading the Primadon/Lizardmen alliance. Before last night...

I recently went to an art gallery, something I do every once in a while. I like it because itís quiet and I get to walk around and experience the art at my own speed- if itís awful I move through quickly , if itís good I can take as much time as I want.

Also, unlike the movies or theatre when youíre walking around in an art gallery you can look at the other people who are there and see how they feel about it. Sometimes theyíre talking about the art and you get to hear multiple view points about it. If you bring a friend you can discuss.

A lot of people donít seem to like art galleries. They find them boring and they donít get the art and therefore they think that they themselves are stupid or uncultured or something. Let me assure you if you donít get the art itís because the art is crappy. Itís all about how it makes you feel and anyone who tells you otherwise is full of bad art.

There were two art shows in this gallery at the same...

So, in the last blog I detailed my masterful win (white knuckle!) over my two sons in our 1200 point challenge. Unsurprisingly they wanted to play again the very next day. Those guys canít stand to see me on top.

Weíre youíre the champ you have to accept the challenge. It was a long day for me, a ten hour work day. When I got home theyíd already chosen their armies and were waiting.

Should I take the Jandar army that had won the last game for me? It was definitely a strong option. But I know my sons learn from the games and I likely wouldnít be able to do the same thing twice. I was thinking Vydar, because we have squads of Krav, but we havenít gotten around to making any custom mages for that drawer. Iíd won the last game because of the mages so I wasnít willing to go without.

In the end I chose Samurai. The Samurai drawer is well filled out, thanks to the availability of lots of metal Samurai miniatures. I took three squads of...

Weíve always got some kind of scape gaming going. Right now we have two big long term games and a challenge. Weíre really into the challenge partly because itís a break from the big games, which can take months and months.

The challenge is simple. Two 1200 point armies try to win either by conquest or by simultaneously standing on 3/4 meaningless glyphs on a large playing field.

I have to say that playing with my two sons is amazing. Theyíre both good sports, good spirits and good players. I often feel that Iím the weakest among the three. Theyíre old now, with part time jobs and school but weíre all playing together again and thatís wonderful. Itís treasure.

The winner of the challenge gets to be the 1200 point army in the next game. The two losers are on the same team and each field 600 points. If the losers win they have to choose whoíll be the 1200 point player. My middle son was just unseated after winning five games in a row,...
