I know it might be hard to believe, but I've never approached I guy I liked out of the blue! I'm talking about the typical TV and movie scenes where a guy goes up to a girl and asks her to dance, or if he can join her for lunch, etc. These scenes usually end in rejection or awkward moments. I think it's a fear in everyone to approach someone of the opposite sex for any reason.

But funrun, you seem like such a confident, pretty girl! What do you have to be worried about?

Well, back when I was in school and hadn't had a boyfriend yet, I was way too shy to approach any guy, or any person, for any reason that wasn't directly warranted. I was lucky enough that most of my boyfriends developed out of mutual friendships, so in my more adult life, there never was a situation where either person needed to go out of their way to approach the other out of the blue.

Now I'm single and things are different. I recently found myself in exactly the situation...

The long gray winter is coming to an end, and methinks I see green buds sprouting behind the Heroscapers.com logo!

Ack! Was that a spider?! Am I seeing an ogre? Oh my!

About two months ago my mom called to tell me this guy I knew in junior high school (who was a ski club buddy and major crush of mine) was in the local newspaper because he had been on MTV's "Made" and was now filming something for ABC. I was pretty shocked, so of course I had to look all this up and give him a call about it. . .

Rewind!

Now I don't really keep track of many people from high school, but since this guy was so into snowboarding he has continuously used the local media to publicize his snowboard endeavors. My mom was a ski club chaperone, so she always tells me when he's in the news back home. From this I knew that straight out of high school he moved from Ohio to Breckenridge, Colorado to be a snowboard instructor and pursue his Olympic dreams. He runs a nonprofit group to help snowboarders raise money for competitions around the world. Not bad for a guy who got a C average and never went to college!

Since I recently moved into a new apartment with a balcony that I can actually see from inside, I decided to attempt to attract some birds with a bird feeder. At Walmart I found a bell-shaped glued conglomeration of different birdseeds for about $2, and figured this was worth a test to see if I could attract any birds.

I hung the seed bell right outside the window next to my desk, and for 2-3 days nothing happened.

During that time I only happened to be at home in the morning and twilight hours, but one evening I noticed a bird on the bell! As I approached the window the bird quickly flew away.

I saw him again the next morning, and this time he had a friend, but any motion on my part to get closer to the window scared them off again.

One time I noticed he only flew off to the nearby roofline, so I grabbed my camera and managed to snap a few photos. The photos themselves sucked cuz the lighting was dim and overcast...

Have you ever gone in to a car dealer to get a serious quote on that sexy sports car you've been dreaming of? The situation may have gone something like this: The salesman gives you his full attention and treats you really nice for upwards of 30 minutes straight. You fill out a bunch of forms with your personal info, then the salesman preps you for The Number. You know it's going to cost, but The Number is SO ridiculously high that you actually laugh out loud at him! As you gather your things to head for the door, he tries to remind you of all the looks you're going to get in that hot sports car and how it's going to be worth the price. His efforts are futile; you keep walking for the door, feeling a renewed sense of confidence that you will find an equally nice car at the dealer down the street, for MUCH less money.

Well that is how I feel right now, only it happened in a much different context. . . at a matchmaker service! I've tried some online dating sites in the past,...
