System of rules for partial cover using concepts and mechanics which are already in the game so as to make them as accessible as possible.
Determine partial cover for figures using:
• Terrain Tiles with a minimum Height of 1.
• Terrain Obstacles, such as walls, trees, glaciers, etc.
• Figures, including Opponent’s Figures and Friendly Figures.
Why partial cover? Because I want the terrain objects in Heroscape (walls, ruins, evergreens, etc.) to do more than just ALMOST hide a figure. I want them to have more strategic significance during movement and positioning of units, as this affects both the way a defender moves, as well as an attacker. I also wanted to try and give melee units a bit more of a fighting chance as they move across the battlefield, trying to out maneuver ranged units who all too often have things all too easy... especially when perched on a castle wall.
Having used these rules in my own games for quite a while now, I can honestly say that they add even more richness and fun to the aspects of game-play and strategy without bogging down the overall flow.
If you end up playing with these rules, send me a message letting me know what you thought of them.
