I have made a few small changes to my Volcarren Fountain idea. I still like the look and feel of the other map, so I didn't want to delete it entirely.
This version makes a few small changes, but the most significant one is opening up the rim of the central lake/fountain by eliminating a molten lava tile from each side. While I like the look of my previous version, this change makes a big difference for melee units, opening up one more option for movement across the map. (Reavers are still dangerous on this map for melee--aren't they always?--but at least it takes a few more now to completely cut off all lateral movement.)
I forgot to point out here (as I did on the earlier version) that this map allows for an easy alternative build as well.
Just swap out the Astrid glyph and lava field in the center for a single water hex (purposefully left over) and then place two random glyphs on the medium-sized lava field hills (the center of each 7-hex works well, though other options work as well). This allows for a more traditional double-blind glyph map.
